Great perspective from Notre Dame Football Coach Marcus Freeman (Marcus Freeman) on why he feels he must remind his players to choose hard: "Struggle with what you have." Everyone starts from a different place. Some people are born on third base. Others have never even seen a triple. But growth isn't determined by where you begin, it's determined by the challenges you're willing to embrace. When you step onto the field, the court, or into any defining moment, nobody cares where you started. What matters is how you've prepared, how you've responded to adversity, and how you've conditioned yourself for the grinding opportunity in front of you. It's a daily choice. It was always destiny that Lou Holtz be the head football coach at Notre Dame. As he tells it, even when he excepted the job at Minnesota it was on the promise that if Minnesota excepted a bowl bid and Notre Dame came calling he was free to go but only to Notre Dame. No one expected him to turn around Minnesota as fast as he did. Minnesota excepted a bowl bid after just his second season and a week later Notre Dame came calling, but it didn’t come without stipulations as Fr Joyce told him “we don’t take transfers here. We don’t redshirt athletes. We don’t have an athletic dorm. We don’t have an athletic table. We’re gonna play the most difficult schedule we can find and we expect to win. The other thing we don’t change and it’s nonnegotiable is we have a policy that the head coach can’t make more than the President at Notre Dame.” Lou Holtz responded with “that doesn’t bother me.” He excepted the position and the rest is history! ☘️

These gentlemen know how to think outside the box. It doesn't appear to Mark Titus (Mark Titus) that Notre Dame and Miami’s resumes are tied. So he like a lot of us are trying to understand why people think H2H matters. Brandon Walker gets it. “Head-to-head is a factor. It isn’t everything, it’s a tiebreaker.” Mark said it FLAT out: "Notre Dame is better than Miami." When selecting the 12 best teams, the question is simple — who’s better right now? Statistically, the two teams are close in several areas, but Miami’s two losses to unranked teams make this comparison incomparable. Notre Dame’s resume is stronger, cleaner, and more reflective of a team deserving a spot.

It’s different when you got two combo guards, like Ja Morant nice we know that, but they both ball dominate like it was different when you had complementary guard like CJ McCollum who was kind of more of a two guard than a point guard. Why Brian still obsesses over recruiting: "Sam Altman (Sam Altman) told me you're going to spend 50% of your time on hiring. I never did. It was my death blow. As a leader, you can choose if you want to spend time hiring or managing. The more time you spend on recruiting, the less time you get to spend on management. The first and last call I make every day is the recruiting team, still. I probably spend two, three hours on it every day. The 2000s, I didn't. I thought it was all about having a recruiting machine, managing people. The great thing is I don't manage as much anymore because the really good people are self managing. People should think about their first employee being a recruiter, not an engineer. Because they are the ones that get you every other person. A company is as good as its people. The difference between the good companies and the great companies are the people."

"You gotta have people in your business you can talk to... You gotta have people who are going through it at the same time. Even though we're competitors today, he's one of the guys, he encouraged me to take this job. He's had a belief in me as a coach... he's a tremendous person. Any time you can have someone like that in your corner, and you can help each other in any kind of way, that's helpful for us."

“What did you think of Lando being booed at race because people and I've seen it online as well say he doesn't deserve the title because McLaren favored him over his teammate. Do you think that's total nonsense?” Jacques Villeneuve: “That's a little bit ridiculous. When there was some booing in some races, that was embarrassing. You should never boo a driver that's clean, doesn't do anything dirty, on track is respectful, and on top of it is super fast. What's wrong with people? That was embarrassing. And, had it been that Piastri was a second a lap faster than him and somehow Lando was winning because a lot of things were happening, his car breaking down every time, then you could start thinking, okay, that's really not cool. That's not fair. But that wasn't the case. And in the second half, Norris has been faster right at the beginning as well, last year as well. So there's this whole middle of the season where Piastri was driving a lot better than Norris and was getting the points. Norris had an engine blowing up, not Piastri. And so those fans, they don't look at that either. You have to look at the whole picture, at the whole season. And suddenly if your favorite is starting to go backwards, you just got to bite the bullet and accept it. Your favorite is just going backwards. That doesn't mean that the other one is treated better or the other one is undeserving just because the one you're a fan of is not winning right now. That’s really wrong. If you're a fan of the sport, then you have to be a fan of the sport and understand when your driver is maybe not cutting it at this point in time, even though he was before and he will in the future again. It's all a question of timing. But that's the price we have to pay now with social media and how big F1 has become. It's very passionate. The people are passionate and once, you know, fans come from fanatism, you stop thinking, when you get in that mindset and it happens to all of us. You want something so much that you get attached and you cannot - it's hard to start seeing reality. So you will try to mold the reality to your thought process and if your champion is not winning then it cannot be his fault. It has to be something from the outside. It has to be the team destroying his chance or not favoring and so on and so on and so on. But there's nothing concrete behind those comments. It's pure fandom and it'll always be like this. And ultimately it's not a bad thing. You know drivers at that - sportsman at that level have to grow a thick skin. If not, you don't deserve to be there. You just have to have a thick skin because they're all very happy to get the compliments. They love it when it's just positive, but it gets balanced out with negatives and you need to be able to take and accept the negatives as well. It goes both ways. You cannot have the good. You just have to be a thick skin and know that it's part and parcels of what's going on. And in one month, it will be forgotten and maybe everything will change and it be the other driver that suddenly will be criticized and so on. So, it's just that's just the way it is.”
