The top ranked team in the state, Defiance Baseball used a 6 run 5th inning to defeat #4 (D6) Fairview High School Baseball 9-4 in a tune up game for both teams before the tourney starts later this week. 8 of 9 hitters for the Bulldogs collected hits, and 7 of 9 hitters scored runs as Defiance used a balanced attack 1-9 in the lineup. Logan Hutcheson had three hits out of the leadoff spot while the 2-3 hole of Cohen Stockman-Brady Borton drove in 5 runs. Garyson Smiddy went the distance on the bump, striking out 9. Here’s how rare they are: There have been over 330 no-hitters pitched in MLB history. But there have only been 24 perfect games. This jersey belongs to the man who threw one of those 24 perfect games and quite possibly the scariest man to ever throw one. The Big Unit. Randy Johnson. Yes, he’s the same guy that threw a pitch that hit a bird flying across home plate. "The Big Unit" retired all 27 batters, striking out 13 on 117 pitches. At 40 years and 256 days old, Johnson broke Cy Young's record to become the oldest pitcher to throw a perfect game. Ok, so he retired all 27 batters in order, 3 up, 3 down in each of the 9 innings. No hits or walks, or errors. No one reached base for any reason. That’s the difference. A no-hitter means the pitcher gave up no hits (meaning that if they do hit the ball, it gets caught, or the runner gets thrown out at first base so then it does not count as a hit. Chadron St went into Golden and left with a big 34-28 victory over 21/RV CO Mines, improving their conference record to 2-0! Chadron’s rushing attack came up big for the Eagles, as they racked up an impressive 261 yards on the ground. Dual threat QB Aidan Thompson led the team with 106 rushing yards and 1 rushing TD, while Quincey Ryker also went over the century mark with 101 rushing yards. 𝑾𝒂𝒕𝒄𝒉𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒚𝒐𝒖𝒓 𝒔𝒐𝒏’𝒔 𝑫1 𝑫𝒆𝒃𝒖𝒕 𝘚𝘵𝘰𝘳𝘺 𝘛𝘪𝘮𝘦...𝘗𝘳𝘰𝘶𝘥! After 10 years of traveling the country with my son Grant Scholzen as my travel partner as an MLB scout and in my baseball capacity now, I was let go 3.5 years ago by the Milwaukee Brewers for CoVid reasons and it has become a blessing in disguise! It freed me up to watch every HS game he played and almost 90% of his summer/fall action from coast to coast, along with national invite showcase teams and events, where he garnered recruiting attention. Now the day came to watch him make his D1 debut this past week. He was able to play 3 innings defensively and as is custom, the ball found him at 2B in all 3 innings. Made all the plays flawlessly, with a “slow” heartbeat and did his thing! The AB’s will come… He’s a great teammate and has his fellow players respect for who he is as a ballplayer and more importantly as a person! His step mother Cami, for the past 8 years also hauled him around when he was young, while Dad was making other players dreams come true and she was able to see the dream realized as well. No matter what the future holds, his passion and endless work ethic made his dream come true! He will continue to grind, work and prove people wrong! His late mother Heidi, who passed away when he was 9 years old, would have been so proud and I know she’s been by his side in spirit and will continue to be by his side, wherever the dream takes him. Only 2% make it to where he’s at, and although I help other young men, in the end he’s my 🔝 priority and the most important player in my portfolio! I love you Grant ❤️

26 years ago. Memorial Day Miracle. Everyone remembers this shot. Where were you? I was 13 years old watching the whole second half standing on the living room couch — even for the commercials. ( I was superstitious in sports growing up competing in basketball and baseball and am til this day). What people don’t remember about this ending is the possession after this shot. Jim Jackson drove baseline where Sean stayed on his hip and got the block which left Portland scrambling for a desperate heave as time expired ( Sean also deflected the rebound). Prime Sean was a two way player of the future at the time — he would be the perfect 3 right now for this current Spurs team. He was an elite defender in the 90s. He could shoot with the. Est of them and make plays off the bounce and probably could have had more on ball playmaking responsibilities if teams thought outside the box a little more at the time. Incredible shot yes, but let’s not forget his defensive stop too. Watching this game unfold felt like a giant weight was lifted off the shoulders as a fan after falling short by bad luck over and over throughout the 90s. Good times.

OF RJ Austin (Vanderbilt Baseball) is an intriguing college hitter in this year's Draft. Carved out an every day role as a Freshman and collected 18 XBH with 43 RBIs, but had a breakout summer on the Cape to the tune of a .327/.426/.376 slash line with 13 RBIs in 29 games. Carried that momentum over into last season where he hit .335/.402/.471 with 14 2B, 5 HRs, 54 RBIs and 28 SB. Earned an invitation to Team USA, but had a strong 15-game stint on the Cape and hit .321/.361/.536 with 6 2B, 2 HRs and 9 RBIs. Strong, athletic build at 5'11" and 193-lbs with plenty of natural strength. Stands fairly tall in the box with his knees slightly bent and a tight base with a slightly open front side. Austin has lowered his handset a bit since last spring, and he now has more of a medium-high handset. Barrel tip in his load is accompanied by his hands drifting. High leg kick leads into a rather lengthy stride. Quick hands and easy plus bat speed. Athletic look, rotates well. Austin's hit tool has taken positive strides since the start of his college career, and last year he posted an overall contact rate of 82% and an IZ contact rate of 91% (including 94% against FB). Present feel for the barrel. Approach and swing decisions still need some fine-tuning, and Austin is susceptible to FBs in the top and outer-1/3 as well as secondaries down-and-away. Very pull-oriented approach. Would give it a 50, probably closer to a 55 than a 50. Austin's also a strong kid with more impact in the tank than his 12 career HRs might suggest. All of his HR power has come to the pull side, but he needs to get the ball up in the air more. Posted a Max EV of 110 last spring. There are some ingredients to work with here, but has to lift the baseball on a more regular basis. Power plays as a 45 in-game. Has had limited experience in the OF to this point, but will roam CF this spring for Vanderbilt. Got a fair amount of run out there this summer on the Cape. Austin's speed and athleticism both translate to the position—he can go and get it—but the reads and route running will need refinement. Fringe-average arm. In case you didn't know mode: The only player in Europe to have an "era of Tekken". The Ryan Hart Era of Tekken was between 1996 - 2012. During this lengthy 16 year period, there was no man in all of Europe who was more feared across all Tekken games than Ryan Hart. Ryan would often rack up 100+ wins or more during arcade sessions and is the only person in Tekken history to win National and European championships on every Tekken 3, 4, 5, 6 and Tekken Tag. Ryan's two single defeats at this time were at the Electric Cancel 3 tournament, where Jang SuWon from South Korea defeated Ryan 3-2 and JOP defeated Ryan 3-1 in tournament, however there was controversy around the JOP win as Ryan's RP button visibly stopped working mid tournament, combos were dropped mid flow, 112's on hit not completed, etc. However despite his 3rd place finish, Ryan had successfully began his reign of terror extension in North America. When Ryan revisited the US for Virtua Fighter on the East Coast twice, again he was dominant against all North American competition. Nobody could put a lid on Ryan's ferocity, reaction time, execution, situational awareness and clutch factor. Ryan also had the largest character usage. Ryan Hart placed Top 3 then Top 4 two years in a row at EVOLUTIONCHAMPIONSHIPSERIES, while simultaneously consistently securing Grand Finals on Tekken at the same time. (Securing Top 2 and Top 3 on two EVO main stage titles at the same time is noteworthy. The next year at EVO Ryan secured top 4 on VF and actually won Tekken at the same time while getting 5th on a third main stage EVO title.) After these years EVO replaced Tekken Tag in favour of the newer Tekken 5 game, which made sense. In the Tekken Tag domain Ryan Hart went down as one of the all time kings that ever touched the game, that was literally never beaten by anybody from Japan, America or Europe on the EVO stage. Ryan Hart got to Grand Finals back to back 3 years in a row and either won it or lost to a top Korean player. He again won it in 2008, this time on Tekken 5 DR. After these years EVO replaced Tekken Tag in favour of the newer Tekken 5 game, which made sense. In the Tekken Tag domain Ryan Hart went down as one of the all time kings that ever touched the game, that was literally never beaten by anybody from Japan, America or Europe on the EVO stage. Ryan Hart got to Grand Finals back to back 3 years in a row and either won it or lost to a top Korean player. He again won it in 2008, this time on Tekken 5 DR. Ryan came out of Tekken retirement for a one-off exhibition match on Tekken 7 vs RIP in 2019, which Ryan won 10-3.
