Every day is a fantastic day to be playing Counterstrike... ON THE SEGA DREAMCAST! What you are seeing is a couple minutes of video featuring online play captured directly from the real hardware! This monumental feat of engineering is to be credited to developer, maximqad, who has successfully ported the Xash3D engine, which is Half-Life compatible, to the little white box, with its 200Mhz SH4 CPU and whopping 16MB of system memory. With the engine has come Half-Life, Counterstrike, and the possibility of many others on DC. Unlike the last time you saw these games, though, they're now glitch-free and are fully playable, with plenty of room for further optimizations left! Speaking of gainz, one of the most interesting battle stories from this project has got to be maximqad offloading some of the engine's allocations for its BSP from system memory onto video memory, which the Dreamcast tends to have an abundance of, at 8MB, with support for a fantastic VQ hardware compression format. A truly staggering number of AI-powered humanoid robots are emerging from Shenzhen, the booming Chinese tech hub. Shenzhen Dobot, which rose from a Kickstarter campaign to become an industrial automation leader, says its first humanoid robot, Atom, has entered mass production. Atom is positioned as a general-purpose cross-industry worker. Priced around $27,000, Atom boasts fine motor control that’s precise enough to pick up a cherry by the stem. Another major player is Pudu Robotics, which recently shipped its 100,000th service robot. Pudu is commercializing its wheeled and bipedal humanoids using its sizable customer base. Its flagship is the PUDU D9, a full-sized biped built to serve in places like warehouses, stores, and hotels. It sells for between $20,000 and $30,000. A newer firm, AI Squared, recently closed a funding round worth hundreds of millions of yuan to rush its Alpha Bot 2 general-purpose humanoid to market. The startup, founded in 2023, says its AI combines slow reasoning and fast motion planning so its robots can plan, talk, and move simultaneously. With the new Signature Bridge needing less than 200 columns, the underdeck will physically connect Edgewater, the A&E District, Wynwood, and Overtown to Downtown Miami and beyond. Developers like PMG are already a step ahead, building condo buildings for where the future of Miami is going.
