When the Amhara people rose up in mass to protest this decision, the Oromo fascist led Federal government deployed the Ethiopian army and Oromo Special Forces to the Amhara region and waged a genocidal war on the Amhara people that has continued to this day. “I had a lot of self-defeating attitudes and behaviours” And, according to Tom Brady, it was a sport psychologist who helped him beat these attitudes and behaviours out of himself. Good! My job as a sport psychologist isn’t to be passive. It’s to be proactive. It’s to be a stretch as part of being a support. It’s to make a difference. That to me is ethical practice - to help people work towards being as high functioning as they can possibly be… To broaden and deepen their engagement with their sport To enhance their ability to learn as a player and grow as a person To be more mentally skilful under pressure I’m a stretch not a shrink… These, to me, lie at the heart of sport psychology. Well-being and mental health support fit into these NOT the other way around (otherwise clinical psychologists can do the job!) Sport psychologists should have expertise in skill acquisition and coaching science. They should have an encyclopaedic knowledge of what it takes to win. They should be on the grass, on the court, on the course, in the gym, and in the pool. Not down some corridor, unseen and unheard. They should coach…they should be proactive and purposeful in their practice… Great sport psychologists are coaches!!! Great coaches… Great sport psychology is easing the pain people and players experience around their sport with relation to what they want to achieve.
