Back in June I visited the southern Lebanese village of Aitaroun, right on the Israeli border. [Today the Israeli military is attempting to reoccupy the town.] Last year, before Israeli forces withdrew, they systematically planted explosives in homes and demolished nearly everything. The only house left standing was the one Israeli soldiers had been occupying, sleeping in, and using as a base. When they finally left, they set it on fire. The Lebanese man who owns the house moved back in even after it had been burned. I interviewed him from the charred balcony on the second floor:
