I taught my Primary 2 students magnetic fields, and how they help us determine magnetic north and bearings using a compass. At the later half of the class, the students did a small experiment that used a magnet and compass to test what we learned. This is what Nigeria can take away from this: 1. LANGUAGE: Using Chinese to explain magnetic fields was so easy for them to understand, and took less than 4 mins. They never have to worry about understanding the grammar or remembering new vocabulary if another language was used. Language skill is not for everyone, just like technical and creative skills. While you or your son can learn a new language fast, others might be more technically inclined. Nigeria should use native languages to teach primary school children right from the first day in school. With many native languages, autonomous regions with different official languages will be ideal, with an option for international classes which are more English focused. 2. CURRICULUM: Unless we are really oblivious, there is no way a Nigerian primary 6 student can compete with my primary 2 students. These are kids that first came to our school so tiny and sometimes crying, many of them donโ€™t even know how to write their names. A Nigerian taught them most of what they know today in less than 2 years, and because we have a curriculum that is modern, targets what the students really need to know, and its always modified to reflect their realities, they have acquired so much knowledge about how the world around them works like electricity, engines, space, aerodynamics, mechanics and environmental protection in a short time. What they are learning is directly linked to where their economy is headed, so by the time they are in university, they can easily understand advanced practical and theoretical knowledge and be useful to their economic development after graduation. Our curriculums in Nigeria are old and mostly useless to the growth of our economy, so letโ€™s do the needful. Donโ€™t wait for miracles to change them for you. We must demand this change. 3. GROUP WORK: Students are encouraged to work in groups, divide tasks and roles and they mentored to understand their strengths and challenges and resolve conflicts. They learn to work with others who are different from them, giving them a diverse perspective and mindset about working together. Nigeria cannot succeed without all of us uniting and learning to work with each other, irrespective of tribe, religion, region and family background. When we win as individuals, we will still be surrounded by helpless people, but when we win as a society, everyone develops. 4. TEACHERS: Here in China, we are always happy and encouraged to learn new things and ways to teach our students. We are free from worrying about food, shelter and pocket money. We are paid more than enough, so we have enough time and mental space to throughly research information and knowledge, and also design useful and interesting lessons for our students. Nigerian teachers should be paid a minimum of 800k to 1 million Naira per month. Primary school teachers lay down the crucial foundations for our economic growth, development and future. It is one of the most important professions in the country and the compensation and benefits MUST be more than senators and representatives. Liking, commenting and retweeting are nice because they help spread the message, however whatโ€™s more important is us uniting as Nigerians with our common interest to ensure that our needs are addressed.

I am the person practice Law of Attraction many years and I do see a lot of change in my life! I believe everything can change to better after we change our heart and our mindset. On the way to Pi success journey, all our community should work together and help each other. Because we are on the same boat. We use our heart on it and we love it and it is in our life and it is our light and hope! Nobody want it fail. I read a story about a bird who has two heads share one body. But one head jealous another head and hate it. So he seduce the other head to eat a poisoned fruit. He is very happy to see the other head die. But after a few minutes, his head feel very painful and died too. I use the story to describe our poineers community. We should understand how to make Pi succes. If you hurt other poineers community, actually it will hurt your community too. I have no discrimiation on different price and respect all Pi Communities. However I would like all pioneers understand why we call GCV, it is not because ourselves greedy. It is because Pi need to start from high price to protect it on open mainnet. We all know a lot of pioneers come from the bottom of our society. They are in hardship, they even cannot afford food and place to live. And these kinds of pioneers has occupied most community. Nobody can prevent them to sell Pi becuase they are Pi holders. They need to survive, this is also the reason why there are a lot under table exchange to FIAT. Even 0.85$ or maybe 0.01$ they will sell Pi. What will happen, if the price is this low? I don't think this price can make eco develpe well. I talked with a Chinese mall rep, he told me many merchants hesitate to put their high value products on the mall is because the price big difference. If they use a price, then pioneers barter and sell in a lower price mall. It will hurt these merchants. This is the reason most merchant won't put high value products. How about the low consensus price bartered by pioneers? Yes, the merchant get a lot of Pi. However they still cannot survive if close mainnet more than 3 months-6 months. The pioneers will used up all his Pi. Then Pi has no relationship with him/her. For myself I have no Pi to use even if I have all basic coin and security circle migrated. All has been locked for 3 years. Now I changed to 90% so I only have 9 Pi in 2-3 years after almost 1 years mining. All bonus Pi cannot use now. before price united. Another thing I want to address again! No need to worry KYC! If you are real person you can pass in 5 min! Many don't want to do anything is because they don't believe they can pass KYC. You must understand Price is the root of eco. Eco healthy can make all KYC open! This is the only thing you don't need to worry. You don't pass or not get open is Because CT not ready to open to all ! #WhatIDoForPi #PiGCV

Four years ago, we set out with a vision: to build an Edmonton for all of us. A city full of joy, opportunity and hope, a place where everyone can feel like they belong, where services are accessible and fair. And an anti-racist Edmonton, because I believe that true inclusion must be intentional. Thank you to Edmontonians, partners and stakeholders. From non-profits to community organizations, businesses and cultural institutions. Together we tackled emergency housing, homelessness, reconciliation, anti-racism, transit, safety, downtown revitalization, climate action, public spaces and more. What we accomplished together: โ–ช๏ธMore than doubled our shelter capacity and improved standards of care for our most vulnerable neighbours. โ–ช๏ธWe worked to secure funding and forge relationships with the province in downtown investment, new police officers, more funding for Homeward Trust, and finally - we got the Province to pay their taxes. โ–ช๏ธWe made public safety a priority, expanding Transit Peace Officers and building crisis diversion teams that make an incredible difference every day. โ–ช๏ธWe advanced reconciliation, Indigenous-led housing, and anti-racism initiatives because justice and equity are intentional and now foundational parts of our government. โ–ช๏ธWe enhanced our parks, revitalized recreation access, and reimagined downtown vibrancy, showing the world the beauty and the power of Edmonton on the world stage. Each of these successes, are about more than just line items on a report. These are lives changed for the better. Policies only matter when they represent the people they serve. I am deeply proud of our work with Indigenous leaders and communities. Together, we have signed historic memorandums of understanding with multiple nations including MOUs on Indigenous housing. The City of Edmonton is more committed to reconciliation than ever. I am confident in Edmonton's capacity to care for one another, to rise to new challenges, and to continue to build a city where everyone belongs. If I leave you with anything, know that this was the privilege of my life to serve my community as your Mayor, and I am deeply grateful for all the support and progress we have made together.

Today, we are launching the first publicly available AI Scientist, via the FutureHouse Platform. Our AI Scientist agents can perform a wide variety of scientific tasks better than humans. By chaining them together, we've already started to discover new biology really fast. With the platform, we are bringing these capabilities to the wider community. Watch our long-form video, in the comments below, to learn more about how the platform works and how you can use it to make new discoveries, and go to our website or see the comments below to access the platform. We are releasing three superhuman AI Scientist agents today, each with their own specialization: A general-purpose agent (Crow); An agent to automate literature reviews (Falcon); and An agent to answer the question โ€œHas anyone done X beforeโ€ (Owl). We are also releasing an experimental agent, Phoenix, that has access to a wide variety of tools for planning experiments in chemistry. More on that below. The three literature search agents (Crow, Falcon, and Owl) have benchmarked superhuman performance. They also have access to a large corpus of full scientific texts, which means that you can ask them more detailed questions about experimental protocols and study limitations that general-purpose web search agents, which usually only have access to abstracts, might miss. Our agents also use a variety of factors to distinguish source quality, so that they donโ€™t end up relying on low-quality papers or pop-science sources. Finally, and critically, we have an API, which is intended to allow researchers to integrate our agents into their workflows. Phoenix is an experimental project we put together recently just to demonstrate what can happen if you give the agents access to lots of scientific tools. It is not better than humans at planning experiments yet, and it makes a lot more mistakes than Crow, Falcon, or Owl. We want to see all the ways you can break it! The agents we are releasing today cannot yet do all (or even most!) aspects of scientific research autonomously. However, as we show in the video, you can already use them to generate and evaluate new hypotheses and plan new experiments way faster than before. Internally, we also have dedicated agents for data analysis, hypothesis generation, protein engineering, and more, and we plan to launch these on the platform in the coming months as well. Within a year or two, it is easy to imagine that the vast majority of desk work that scientists do today will be accelerated with the help of AI agents like the ones we are releasing today. The platform is currently free-to-use. Over time, depending on how people use it, we may implement pricing plans. If you want higher rate limits, especially for research projects, get in touch. Michael Skarlinski, Andrew White ๐Ÿฆโ€โฌ›, Tyler Nadolski, Remo Storni, James Braza, Ludovico Mitchener, Michaela Hinks, as well as Jason Carman and his team for making such fantastic videos of us!

For the last decade, the media, Democrats, and Never Trump Republicans have denounced Trump as a tool of the rich and of Wall Street. Trumpโ€™s populism was fake, they said. He doesnโ€™t really care about the working class. He just cares about himself and his Wall Street buddies. Trumpโ€™s tariffs and Wall Streetโ€™s reaction to them prove that all of that was a lie, says Batya Ungar-Sargon, the author of two important recent books, one about the media (Bad News) and the other about the working class (Second Class). โ€œLiberation Day should go down in history as the day that finally put to bed the myth that Donald Trump only cares about the rich,โ€ she said in a new podcast with me today. โ€œIt's the exact opposite. He is waging class warfare on Wall Street for the sake of the American working class. And to punish him, Wall Street is literally just shorting him. They're shorting his agenda. They are betting against America, they are betting against the president because they cannot stand the idea that there is a person with power in America was not on his knees in front of Wall Street asking them, โ€˜And what would you like next?โ€™ the way both parties have been doing for 60 years.โ€ The media has been even worse. โ€œOur economic policy for the last 60 years was put in place by people who are too lazy to get out from behind their laptops,โ€ she said. โ€œThey imagine that nobody would want to work in a factory because they would rather die than work in a factory. They would rather die than watch their own children work in a factor or clean their own toilets. So they imagine that no one would want to do these things. And so they shipped manufacturing overseas and imported a slave caste.โ€ Over half of Americans have money in the stock market, and so we shouldnโ€™t discount the pain many people are feeling right now or the possibility that Trumpโ€™s tariffs could backfire, cause a recession, and lower living standards. But, as Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has noted, โ€œThe top 10% of Americans own 88% of the stock market. The next 40% owns 12% of the stock market. The bottom 50% has debt. They have credit card bills. They rent their homes. They have auto loans. And we've got to give them some relief.โ€ The problem isnโ€™t just the inequality. Itโ€™s the lack of solidarity. The wealthiest Americans donโ€™t seem to care about the poorest. โ€œLast year,โ€ noted Bessent, โ€œthe summer of 2024, Americans took more European vacations than they had in history. [And] Summer of 2024, more Americans were using food banks than ever in history.โ€ Creating more purchasing power for the poorest Americans would be good for growth, not bad, argue tariff supporters, including Bessent, Oren Cass, and Ungar-Sargon. โ€œThe top 10% now control over 60% of our GDP. They are not the ideal consumer for the central components of the American dream: housing, healthcare, education, and retirement. They are the only consumers who can afford those things. So the price for those items is tagged to their incomes.โ€ Bessent says something similar. โ€œI don't think the bottom 50% of Americans are losers, I think the system hasn't worked for them. I think that they are winners. It's just a bad system. So we are going to fix the system. They want good jobs. They want their kids to do better than they do. They want to own a home. They want to pay down their debt. This isn't hard. We can do this in the next four years.โ€ And bringing a significant amount of manufacturing back to the United States is a national security imperative recognized by Republicans and Democrats. โ€œWe literally rely on our greatest adversary for the tools that we would need to fight it should it come to that,โ€ said Batya-Sargon. โ€œThey exported a deadly pandemic, and we relied on them to produce the vaccines, the pharmaceuticals, and the protective gear we needed to combat it. This is like a South Park episode only without the humor. It's so obviously absurd and yet nobody had the guts to do anything about this.โ€ Please subscribe now to support Public's award-winning reporting, read the rest of the article, and watch the full video!

To further enunciate our plans for the Murtala Mohammed International Airport (MMI) in Lagos, let me further clarify the approval we secured from the Federal Executive Council Meeting last week. 1. There are two international terminals in Lagos. Terminal One is that old building directly facing the long stretch of road leading to the airport built & commissioned in 1979 by the Obasanjo-led Military regime. It has two wings known as WING D and WING E. Terminal Two is the new building on the right-hand side as you drive into the airport, started by President Jonathanโ€™s govt. with a Chinese loan, completed during President Buhariโ€™s govt (with the loan) & made operational during President Tinubuโ€™s first one month in office. 2. Due to years of neglect & because the traffic over time quadrupled beyond its capacity, the building & facilities at Terminal One became totally decrepit. We have been engaged in some patch jobs over the years just to make it a bit presentable. Now, shorn of all the rhetoric, what we simply want to do is to totally strip down that building, including the entire roof (leaving only the carcass), then re-design/reconfigure it & build a brand-new airport for the nation to meet modern, international standards that can also cater for the increased traffic. Both wings D and E would be affected. 3. As for the new Terminal (Two), we got approval to expand the building and the Apron (where aircraft park for boarding and disembarkation) in order to accommodate more aircraft, including wide-body aircraft. That is not all; we are constructing two new independent ring roads in and out of the airport (one for departure and one for arrival) and a bridge that will take travellers directly to the upper floor of Terminal Two Departure lounge, instead of lifting our luggage up the escalators when we are departing. It is a design error we intend to correct. 4. We have also introduced smart solutions to the new designs in order to deliver a smart airport to Nigerians that can compete with any airport in the world. 5. In all, Nigerians will be proud of what we are going to deliver. And take note, this will not be done by a loan from anywhere, but by the Renewed Hope infrastructure Development Fund, which is one of the gains made from the removal of subsidies. 6. As the work progresses, we will be inviting the Press, Civil Society groups, members of the National Assembly and interested Nigerians on regular tours of the facility to monitor the extent and quality of work. It is part of our national heritage and we should all rightly be interested in the final outcome. 7. I will also encourage our compatriots to simply google the cost of most modern airports built around the world in the last few years (including those in Africa like Angola, etc) and you will agree with me that the Bureau for Public Procurement that scrutinised and fixed the final cost of this project did a fantastic job for the nation. 7. And as a final word, it is important to tell Nigerians that we also have brand new Terminals in Kano, Abuja & Port-Harcourt. However, presently, they are all underutilised due to the traffic that is less than thirty percent of their capacities. 8. For further explanation and transparency, we have produced a video (which I attach hereunder) that graphically explains the proposed works upon which we are embarking. I hope you find it useful. Thank you.

"Finding the Words" was first released 20 years ago. It was censored from airing in the United States because it reflects the truth about Autism: that it is biomedical, and kids can recover from it. For the first time ever, it is being made available for everyone online. (Thank you, Elon!) This Christmas, may your heart be filled with hope and love. Here is a note from the director, my dear friend, mentor, and warrior mom, Elizabeth Horn. โ€”โ€”โ€” Thank you for reintroducing "Finding the Words" to your followers nearly 20 years after its premiere. The filmโ€™s central messageโ€”never give up on your childrenโ€™s healthโ€”resonates more urgently than ever as Autism rates (as well as other chronic conditions) continue to climb, now exceeding 1 in 36 children in the U.S. Reflecting on my journey as a parent with a newly diagnosed daughter in the late 1990s, I remember well the despair of a confusing prognosis with limited answers about my daughter's future and how to help her overcome a growing list of limitations. "Finding the Words" followed my efforts to meet with families whose children with serious, complex issues related to an ASD diagnosis had gotten better. I met extraordinary parents who were willing to open their lives up to a film crew so they could give other families hope. And I interviewed the courageous researchers and clinicians who dared to listen to them and explore treatments and therapies that could relieve the suffering of children facing severe Autism-related challenges, including self-injury, chronic infections, GI disease, and seizures. Despite countless obstacles and admonitions that the movie gave parents "false hope," the film found a global audience, inspiring parents worldwide. But it was never broadcast in the United States. Fast forward to 2024, and the search for answers for Autism has evolved. Our foundation, and the community that has developed around our vision continue the relentless work of "Decoding Autism" with the help of personalized medicine. We are exploring the roles of multi-omic biology and the environment to accelerate our understanding of this heterogeneous condition and targeting individualized treatments and interventions that may prevent some of the serious symptoms that hold our children back from their best lives. Brave families like those in "Finding the Words" created the paths we parents travel. Their children are grown now. One young woman is an actress in New York; one of the most severely affected boys is a brilliant young man working at an AI startup in California; and another was his high school valedictorian. They give us hope that we too can find answers for our children. Without hope, nothing changes. In 2025, our community stands with you and the growing MAHA movement to ensure that every child, every person with Autism, has a chance at their healthiest, happiest life. Heartfelt thanks for your support, Nicole, and for inspiring us to continue this vital workโ€”all for our kids. Elizabeth

โ€œHundreds of members of the state LNP, including Mr Littleproud and fellow federal Nationals Matt Canavan, Llew O'Brien and Colin Boyce, overwhelmingly voted for the Coalition to abandon a commitment to net-zero carbon emissions by 2050. While the grassroots vote is not binding on the parliamentary party, Mr Littleproud acknowledged there was "definitely a mood in our partyroom" to abandon the emissions policies. A Newspoll conducted between Monday and Thursday last week shows the Coalition's primary vote crashing to an all-time low of 27 per cent, which has lifted Labor's two-party-preferred buffer to a dominant 58 per cent to 42 per cent. The primary vote for the Coalition is at all time lows. Unfortunately not all coalition voters are switching to minor parties. Some are switching to Labor or the Teals. If we want to beat Labor, then itโ€™s vital that political parties start listening to their members. A few weeks ago the LNP had their annual convention and for the first time in years grassroot members were actually allowed to debate and vote on net zero. Needless to say the members voted net zero down. But hereโ€™s the thing - what the grass root members decide isnโ€™t binding on the parliamentary members. David Crisafulli stated afterwards that his government is still committed to net zero. The Federal party will soon recommit to net zero to please their mates at the big end of town. Which begs the question, whatโ€™s the point of a political party having members if their elected representatives donโ€™t listen to them. Itโ€™s no wonder support for the LNP is declining. Party leaders are not listening to their members. In many ways this is by design as the two major parties have changed the electoral funding laws so they are funded by taxpayers instead of members. This has made democracy inside the major parties redundant. The only way this process can change is to build a strong grassroots political movement that can gut the Liberal and Labor party of their members. Thatโ€™s why People First is building branches. We will ensure policies and candidates are decided upon by our members and binding on anyone that is elected into Parliament. Itโ€™s the only way to give power back to the people and ensure politicians are held to account. If you want to take back Australia then sign up today at

A group of 5-10 white men, organized and fundraised with 800 people, to mobilize a vote of 17,421 people to breakaway and create a new city in my home town. People often ask me why Iโ€™m so direct about race. Itโ€™s in my face everyday how clear some in our city think about Black people and leadership. Baton Rouge is only on its 2nd Black mayor in its 200 year history. So historic neglect by previous leaders created a tale of two cities. Iโ€™ve been saying it for over a decade. Now itโ€™s here. One day these videos I make will start getting you to ask why arenโ€™t you doing more? These white men all over 50 just organized an effort that will impact us for the next 200 years. And if more people had showed up, if more people had organized, we wouldnโ€™t be here. To my folks in Atlanta. Take notice. Buckhead and what they attempted to do a few years ago, trust they are taking note. I hope you are too. There are people in this country who will do everything in their power not to be under Black leadership. Letโ€™s be clear, whatโ€™s wrong with America wasnโ€™t created by Black people. Whatโ€™s wrong in Louisiana is inequity that breeds all the social ills including crime. I want to be very clear, they drew the line in the sand when they created a new city. So I intend to be lending my voice to make sure we protect every investment for the citizens of Baton Rouge. Weโ€™ve built the South Side, and they packed up their toys. Now, itโ€™s time for Baton Rouge to do what is in the best interest of Baton Rouge. This is and has always been a war for resources for them, we need to do whatever is in our power to protect our resources as a city. There is no room to compromise with people who have literally divided this community, to make a 70% white city. All the people who say, they couldnโ€™t put up with what people put up with in the 1960โ€™s. Youโ€™re on the clock, we in the field working at this change. You can join us whenever you realize these types of people are after your kids resources everyday. Youโ€™re paying into the system itโ€™s about time we fully take control of some things and show folks what to do with power. Yall gone hear me one dayโ€ฆ #KeepPushing #AlwaysRising in spite of

Today, weโ€™re announcing Kosmos, our newest AI Scientist, available to use now. Users estimate Kosmos does 6 months of work in a single day. One run can read 1,500 papers and write 42,000 lines of code. At least 79% of its findings are reproducible. Kosmos has made 7 discoveries so far, which we are releasing today, in areas ranging from neuroscience to material science and clinical genetics, in collaboration with our academic beta testers. Three of these discoveries reproduced unpublished findings; four are net new, validated contributions to the scientific literature. AI-accelerated science is here. Our core innovation in Kosmos is the use of a structured, continuously-updated world model. As described in our technical report, Kosmosโ€™ world model allows it to process orders of magnitude more information than could fit into the context of even the longest-context language models, allowing it to synthesize more information and pursue coherent goals over longer time horizons than Robin or any of our other prior agents. In this respect, we believe Kosmos is the most compute-intensive language agent released so far in any field, and by far the most capable AI Scientist available today. The use of a persistent world model also enables single Kosmos trajectories to produce highly complex outputs that require multiple significant logical leaps. As with all of our systems, Kosmos is designed with transparency and verifiability in mind: every conclusion in a Kosmos report can be traced through our platform to the specific lines of code or the specific passages in the scientific literature that inspired it, ensuring that Kosmosโ€™ findings are fully auditable at all times. We are also using this opportunity to announce the launch of Edison Scientific, a new commercial spinout of FutureHouse, which will be focused on commercializing our agents and applying them to automate scientific research in drug discovery and beyond. Edison will be taking over management of the FutureHouse platform, where you can access Kosmos alongside our Literature, Molecules, and Precedent agents (previously Crow, Phoenix, and Owl). Edison will continue to offer free tier usage for casual users and academics, while also offering higher rate limits and additional features for users who need them. You can read more about this spinout on our blog, below. A few important notes if youโ€™re going to try Kosmos. Firstly, Kosmos is different from many other AI tools you might have played with, including our other agents. It is more similar to a Deep Research tool than it is to a chatbot: it takes some time to figure out how to prompt it effectively, and we have tried to include guidelines on this to help (see below). It costs $200/run right now (200 credits per run, and $1/credit), with some free tier usage for academics. This is heavily discounted; people who sign up for Founding Subscriptions now can lock in the $1/credit price indefinitely, but the price ultimately will probably be higher. Again, this is less chatbot and more research tool, something you run on high-value targets as needed. Some caveats are also warranted. Firstly, we find that 80% of Kosmos findings are reproducible, which also means 20% are not -- some things it says will be wrong. Also, Kosmos certainly does produce outputs that are the equivalent to several months of human labor, but it also often goes down rabbit holes or chases statistically significant yet scientifically irrelevant findings. We often run Kosmos multiple times on the same objective in order to sample the various research avenues it can take. There are still a bunch of rough edges on the UI and such, which we are working on. Finally, we are aware that the 6 month figure is much greater than estimates by other AI labs, like METR, about the length of tasks that AI Agents can currently perform. You can read discussion about this in our blog post. Huge congratulations to our team that put this together, led by Ludovico Mitchener and Michaela Hinks: Angela Yiu, Benjamin Chang, Sid Narayanan, Edwin Melville-Green, Albert Bou, Arvis Sulovari, Oz Wassie, Jon Laurent. A particular shout out to Michael Skarlinski and his team that rebuilt the platform for this launch, especially Andy Cai Andy Cai, Richard Magness, Remo Storni, Tyler Nadolski Tyler Nadolski, Mayk Caldas Mayk Caldas, Sam Cox Sam Cox and more. This work would not have been possible without significant contributions from academic collaborators Mathieu Bourdenx, Eric Landsness, Dรกniel Barabรกsi, Nicky Evans, Tonio Buonassisi, Bruna Gomes, Shriya Reddy, Martha Foiani, and Randall Bateman. We also want to thank our numerous supporters, especially Eric Schmidt, who has been a tremendous ally. We will have more to say about our supporters soon!

Investor Chris Hohn (2,924% returns since 2004) on 7 types of "moats" as Warren Buffett calls them: First Hohn clarifies that a "moat" means a business that is difficult to replace & compete with: "Those areโ€ฆtwo risks: substitution risk & competition risk. They become very difficult to overcome long-term. And why is that so important? Competition kills profitsโ€ฆSubstitution eliminates your business." Next, Hohn on the 7 moats: 1. Irreplaceable Physical Assets "One which most people don't look atโ€”most investors don't really look at, interestinglyโ€”is irreplaceable physical assets. We're in a world where people just look at earnings. They don't look at asset value or physical assets. So we like quite a bit of infrastructure. Airports, for example, one of our investments has been the airport group in Spain that the government privatized, AENA. You can never build a second airport in Madrid or anywhere else. These are natural monopolies. That also applies to toll roads, railroads, and telecom towers." 2. Intellectual Property "A second [moat] is Intellectual Property that is so advanced it's very difficult to replicate. One space we like is aircraft engines. It's a very complicated product: the materials complexity, the temperatures these engines run at, the metals that would otherwise melt, the thousands of complex parts that all have to come together. That's a business where there are only two players in narrowbody engines and two in widebody, and there have been no new entrants for more than 50 years. The last new entrant was GE. It's a big industry, but it's so complex it's very hard to enter." 3. "Installed Base" "Another barrier to entry is Installed Base, which also applies to the aircraft engine business. Once those engines are there, you get the spare parts business that comes with them." 4. Scale "Scale is another barrier, though that's not a guarantee of a competitive moat." 5. Network Effects "Network Effects are another important barrier. You can see this in assets like Visa and Meta." 6. Brands "And Brands are another barrier to entry, though not every brand is powerful. A McDonald's has real value. Some brands are powerful and sustainable, but not all." 7. Customer Switching Costs "One more moat worth mentioning: Customer Switching costs. Take mission-critical software. Once it's installed, companies are very reluctant to mess with it and switch because of the complexity."
