Five passenger vehicles impounded in Limpopo for overloading on N1 near Polokwane The Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety has impounded at least five passenger vehicles, including three buses and two minibus taxis, for violating road safety regulations. The vehicles were intercepted on the N1 south outside Polokwane in Limpopo during routine road safety operations, transporting passengers from Zimbabwe to Gauteng in excess of their permitted capacity. Spokesperson for Limpopo Department of Transport and Community Safety, Matome Taueatsoala, said a minibus taxi licensed to carry 14 passengers was found transporting over 20 people, including minors who were forced to sit on cooler boxes and luggage, posing a serious risk to passenger safety. "Overloading remains a leading contributor to road crashes, and we won't tolerate it on our roads," says the department. The vehicles are being held at Polokwane Traffic Control Centre pending further action," she said.

[WATCH] A scholar transport dispute is brewing in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape. The Mthatha Taxi Owners Association has issued a warning against the operation of private scholar or staff transport. In a letter, the taxi association instructed parents to visit their nearest taxi ranks, where they will be assisted with transport to ferry their children. The association is adamant that it is the job of its members and departmental-supplied scholar transport to ferry learners.

Waterloo Road. Its a few months old but its doing the rounds on here now... Taxi driver refused to give way to an emergency vehicle and was pulled over for it. It could have ended with just a fine and some points but the taxi driver's rotten attitude landed him in custody.

VIDEO CIRCULATING OF SUSPECTS ARRESTED MADE AT MALL OF AFRICA Three suspects linked to taxi violence related murders in East London have been arrested by a special task team assigned to prevent, combat and investigate serious and violent crime in the Eastern Cape. The murders are believed to have taken place between November 2023 and August 2024 in which two taxi owners, a taxi driver and a member of a taxi association were gunned down. Two of the suspects were arrested at Mall of Africa in Midrand, Johannesburg on Friday, 08 November 2024, while another one was arrested in East London on Saturday, 09 November 2024. Four other suspects that are also seen in this video have been taken in for questioning by SAPS. Police have seized four pistols and an AK47 from the suspects. These firearms and rifle have been taken in for ballistics testing to determine their linkage to the murders and any other serious and violent crime. This matter is still under investigation and police will not comment further.

Many people sent direct messages to the driver, offering to help by bringing more clothes. Today, the taxi driver left for his first trip in the morning, but when he returned, he was met with the tragic news that his friend, Jocob, had collapsed and passed away. The taxi drivers express their shock and sadness because Jocab showed no signs of illness.
