For more than five months, the leaders of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC) including Mahrang Baloch and others have been held in illegal detention under fabricated charges. Their only crime is raising their voices against the injustices inflicted on the people of Balochistan. The all detained individuals are human rights defenders and political voices who dared to speak against enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and the ongoing repression in the region. A peaceful protest rally was organized in Quetta against the enforced disappearance of BYC's Central Committee member Bebarg Baloch and illegally detained Baloch women. The district Administration and Police were ready to crackdown on protesters with batons and water canons. However, protest was conducted peacefully. Once again, Pakistan’s intelligence agencies, the Sindh police, and the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) government have resorted to violence, arresting Deputy Organizer of BYC Lala Wahab Baloch along with other protesters in Karachi to suppress a peaceful demonstration against enforced disappearances organized by the Baloch Yakjehti Committee (BYC). Police baton-charged demonstrators, opened fire, made mass arrests—including women and children—and used tear gas and shelling to disperse the crowd. To sabotage the peaceful sit-in, police fired indiscriminately at protesters, severely injuring several. while another remains in critical condition. This escalation comes alongside ongoing arrests, brutal beatings, and a complete communication blackout. Meanwhile, search operations in Saryab continue, with security forces raiding homes and detaining more protesters. Mobile networks and internet services remain suspended, and the whereabouts of those already arrested are still unknown. The BYC had called for the sit-in to demand the release of its central committee member Bebarg, his brother Hammal, Dr. Ilyas, Baloch woman Saeeda, and several others who have been forcibly disappeared. 🆕 Our coalition (CUSP), in partnership with Community Alliance For Peace and Justice , hosted a Congressional Staff Zoom Briefing on June 11th, joined by senior House and Senate staffers. The briefing focused on the deepening crisis in Balochistan - where enforced disappearances are routine and brave voices like Mahrang Baloch face persecution. It featured insights from human rights lawyer Imaan Zainab Mazari-Hazir and was hosted by Mehlaqa Samdani . After the 2013 earthquake, a very dangerous military operation was carried out in Awaran, and the entire region was sieged and turned into a military zone. For at least the last ten years, Awaran has been a complete war zone, but despite all this, the state has not been able to enslave the minds and consciousness of the people. The large participation of thousands of people, especially women, in mass demonstration on the call of the Baloch Yakjehti Committee today proved that the Baloch people are now completely fed up with state oppression and barbarism.
