Tim Walzโ€™s Hunting Gaffe Explained:๐Ÿงต Iโ€™ve done a lot of pheasant hunting. As a high schooler, I made extra $ assisting guides on pheasant hunts: getting the hunters in the field, flushing game for them to easily shoot, and making sure they are safe. And much more since those days. You learn to spot the guys who are a potential danger to themselves and others. Everything about them is new: the shotgun, the gear, the clothing. They look like theyโ€™ve just stepped out of an LL Bean catalog. This isnโ€™t meant as a criticism. But if youโ€™re leading the hunt itโ€™s a visual clue that heโ€™s probably new to this and, in his excitement, he went to his local hunting store bought all the gear in an effort to look like one of the guys. It tells you to keep an eye on him and to be ready to offer quiet instruction so as not to embarrass him. I donโ€™t fault Walz for clearly being inexperienced with firearms and hunting. Anyone who is proficient in either had to learn sometime. For most of us, I think, the scorn heaped upon him is due to the fraudulent nature of it all. What VP candidate takes a day off to go hunting? Well, they donโ€™t unless they see it as a photo op. Dems realize Americans think Walz is a beta male weirdo, so some campaign genius said, โ€œI got it! Heโ€™ll go hunting! Heโ€™ll look manly!โ€ With the exception of โ€œThe Natural,โ€ I generally hate sports movies because the lead actor usually looks like heโ€™s never played sports in his life. Watching Walz handle a shotgun is like watching Keanu Reeves throw a football in โ€œThe Replacements.โ€ Itโ€™s painful. (Robert Redford was believable as an aging baseball player because he clearly played the game as a boy. Same with Kevin Costner in โ€œFor the Love of the Game.โ€) In this video, Walz appears to be having difficulty loading his shotgun while on a pheasant hunt. He tells the reporter, whose questioning tone suggests sheโ€™s not buying any of this, that itโ€™s a Beretta A400. The A400 is a semi-auto shotgun. Many guides donโ€™t allow semi-autos on a hunt because they canโ€™t see at a distance that youโ€™re โ€œsafe.โ€ A break-action double-barrel is therefore preferred since they can tell when your gun cannot be fired (be it loaded or not). This is because the barrel is on a hinge that โ€œbreaksโ€ open to permit manual loading. And this is very important for safety. I would wager that most accidental shotgun deaths involve semi-autos. This is all the more important in pheasant hunting. Unlike, say, deer hunting where you might sit in a tree all day long by yourself, pheasant hunting is typically done in large groups where the hunters are arranged in a crescent and marched through a field toward โ€œblockers,โ€ that is, hunters who stand still in a line. The idea is to drive the birds into the blockers and force them to flight. Hunting in such close proximity with other hunters can be dangerous for a variety of reasons: the birds fly parallel to the ground at head level, excitable hunters start blasting away at everything that moves or donโ€™t wait for the birds to reach a safe height, accidental discharges, etc. A guide wants to see that your weapon is open and therefore inoperable in all but the hunt. The loading port on the A400 is beneath the weapon near the trigger guard. This type of loading is an acquired skill, and Walz doesnโ€™t have it. (Iโ€™ll add that Walz says he bought it for trap shooting. In this he is correct. I wouldnโ€™t want to use an A400 pheasant hunting. Itโ€™s not a field gun. Itโ€™s heavy. But itโ€™s excellent for clays.) He fumbles around and, sensing heโ€™s making a fool of himself, he appears to stop before heโ€™s managed to get it loaded. As you can see, this carefully choreographed hunt wasnโ€™t so carefully choreographed. Itโ€™s become Tim Walzโ€™s Michael Dukakis-in-the-tank moment. Itโ€™s also noteworthy that in this gaffe Democrats, for all their faux rage about โ€œtoxic masculinity,โ€ unwittingly pay homage to masculinity and its appeal. They do know what it is. They just donโ€™t know how to practice it.

I have seen some desperate NPP propagandists share a video of the Upper West Regional Hospital, with the claim that it was started by Former President Kufour and completed by President Akufo-Addo. Although the history of the Upper West Regional Hospital is well-known and a matter of public record, it is important to set the records straight so that unsuspecting Ghanaians are not hoodwinked by this dubious propaganda. 1. The 160-bed Upper West Regional Hospital project was one of the nine (9) hospitals which were awarded to Euroget De Invest in the year 2010 by the Government of Ghana. 2. The project was conceptualized and initiated by the Kufour government as part of what is called โ€œThe Hospitals Projectโ€. Euroget De Invest was engaged by the Government of Ghana to design and build 8 hospitals for the Ministry of Health and 1 hospital for the Ministry of Defense. 3. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by the Government of Ghana and Euroget De Invest for the nine (9) hospital projects in April 2008. 4. Cabinet gave approval for the Euroget hospital projects on 29th October 2008. 5. On 12th November, 2008, the Parliament of Ghana approved the loan for the Euroget hospital projects, an amount of $339 million dollars which was to be sourced from Egypt. The Kufour government was then voted out of office. See 6. The contracts for the projects were signed between the Mills government and Euroget in 2010. 7. On 31st July, 2010, then Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama cut the sod for the Upper West Regional Hospital. 8. However, construction of the project could not commence due to the inability of the company, Euroget De Invest to secure funding from Egypt. This undue delay was mainly occasioned by the Arab spring upheaval in Egypt. Thus, the Upper West regional hospital could not start on schedule due to lack of funds. See 9. Through the hard work of the Mills/Mahama government, approval was given to Euroget De Invest and funding was secured from a Barclays PLC- ABSA SA consortium to finance the project in August 2012. See 10. In November 2012, just before the elections, then running mate to Akufo-Addo, Alhaji Bawumia visited the project site with the media and mocked John Mahama and the NDC for deceiving the people of Upper West region. See 11. Actual construction began in 2014 under the Mahama/NDC government with funding from the Barclays-ABSA bank consortium. By the time John Mahama was leaving office, the project was about 95%. These facts are verifiable and indisputable. 13. It is true that the project has its roots in the Kufour government. It was in 2008, that the MoU and original loan agreement was signed and approved. However, the funding arrangement envisaged under the Kufour government didnโ€™t materialize. The contracts were signed and the sod cut for the project by the Mills/Mahama government. More importantly, Funding was secured in August 2012 under the Mills/Mahama government. Construction began in 2014 under the Mahama government and was over 95% complete in 2016 before John Mahama left office. 14. The Upper West Regional hospital project should have been fully completed and commissioned latest by 2017 but was unduly delayed by President Akufo-Addo and commissioned in 2019. 15. While it is fair to give President Kuffuor the credit for conceptualizing and initiating the project, the chunk of the credit must go to the Mills/Mahama governments which worked with Euroget to secure funding for the project and supervised the construction of the project from ground zero to about 95% completion stage. 16. Akufo-Addo and Bawumia knows next to nothing about this project and contributed very little to its completion. SAMMY GYAMFI ESQ.

A fascinating interaction between a wolf and a bear at a bait pile put out by a local bear hunting guide. The bear initially chases the wolf away, but 5 minutes later, the wolf and bear are feeding at the bait pile a few feet from each other. We are currently in the 2nd week of the bear baiting season, and the hunting season opens tomorrow. Starting in mid-August, hunters maintain bait piles stocked with foods such as nuts, candies, donuts, and dried fruit to get bears visiting the area before the season opens on Sept. 1. All in all, bear hunting is a boon for wolves because it happens at their leanest time of year. As a result, wolves quickly find the bait piles in their territories and spend considerable time eating the bait (as you can see here). Once bear hunting season begins, the situation gets even better for wolves for three reasons: The first is that bear season results in many gut piles which wolves will eat in a heartbeat (and they excel at finding them). The second is that hunters and guides discard the remains of bear carcasses they have butchered (we know this always surprises some but people eat bear meatโ€ฆwe have had it and it is pretty tasty). Wolves find these carcasses and spend a lot of time scavenging every last morsel. The third reason: some bears are wounded or killed but not recovered by hunters. Both scenarios create opportunities for wolves to get the biggest-ticket item of bear season: an entire bear carcass. When bears are killed but not recovered, wolves win the lottery: a 100 to 300+ pound buffet just sitting in the woods, ready to be consumed. For a 60- to 70-pound wolf at the leanest time of year, that is about as good as it gets. When bears are wounded, wolves almost certainly can and will kill and consume them if the bear is vulnerable enough. We have studied wolf predation for the past 12 years, and almost the only time we have documented predation on black bears is in September, and to a lesser extent, early October. Overall, bear hunting almost certainly increases the interactions between wolves and bears. Some interactions, such as this one, are chillโ€”with both animals tolerating each other. Others are not so chill. Either way, wolves definitely benefit from bear hunting.

The carnyx is an ancient musical instrument that best-known to have been used by the Celts during the Iron Age. Between 300 BC and 200 AD, the carnyx was used in many parts of Europe. In the ancient literary records, the carnyx is most commonly depicted as an instrument that accompanied Celtic warriors when they went into battle. Apart from literary sources, references to the carnyx have also been found on pieces of art and coins. Lastly, remains of this musical instrument have occasionally been found during archaeological excavations. The carnyx may be described as a type of war trumpet. This instrument was a valveless horn that was made of beaten bronze, and can be easily recognized due to its ลฟ-shape. Another distinct feature of the carnyx is its bell, which often depicts the head of some animal. Such animals include boars, dragons, serpents, birds and wolves. The bells of the carnyx were fashioned after these animals so as to strike fear into enemy warriors. Additionally, some bells were made with joints at the jaws, which would cause the animalโ€™s head to move when the instrument was blown, thus adding to the psychological effect it had on the enemy. Whilst the sight of the carnyx struck fear into the hearts of the enemy, it was the sound of it, which has been described as lugubrious and harsh, that probably had a greater impact on enemy morale. It may be pointed out that it is unlikely that we will ever know how their carnyces had sounded. Nevertheless, it is possible to recreate this instrument, given that some of them have been found during archaeological excavations, and perhaps achieve a slightly better understanding of how this instrument worked. One example of a carnyx that has survived is the Deskford Carnyx, which was discovered in Deskford in Banffshire, Scotland. Only the head of this instrument was found, and it has been speculated that it had been buried as a votive offering to the gods. Although this instrument did not survive in its entirety, it provided enough information for a replica to be made. In order to recreate the rest of the carnyx, parallels, most notably artistic depictions from elsewhere in Europe were consulted. As a result, it is possible for us to hear the kind of sound a carnyx may have emitted when it was played. Nevertheless, the Deskford Carnyx is only one example of such an instrument. Prior to 2004, the remains of only five carynces were known. These instruments were found in Scotland, France, Germany, Switzerland and Romania respectively. In November 2004, a deposit of seven carynces was unearthed at Tintignac, a Gallo-Roman site at Tintignac in the Corrรจze region of southern France. One of these carnyces had a bell in the shape of a serpentโ€™s head with huge ears. A recreation of this carnyx was also made, and the sound produced by this instrument was quite different from that of the Deskford Carnyx. Thus, it has been shown that there were different types of carnyces in existence. Additionally, the carnyx from Tintignac also forced experts to re-evaluate the way that this instrument was played. Prior to its discovery, it was thought that the carnyx was held vertically, as depicted in some pieces of ancient art. The carnyx from Tintignac, however, had a completely straight tube, as opposed to other carnyces which had a slight bend at the mouth end of the tube. This meant that the carnyx from Tintignac was most likely played more or less horizontally, rather than vertically. This has led to the speculation that the carnyx, though traditionally associated with warfare, may have had a ritualistic function, and had been used for other occasions, such as feasts, funerals and weddings, as well. #archaeohistories

ILLEGAL FIREARM? Did Tim Walz violate state and/or federal law by using a magazine that was too large? It sure sounded like he loaded five shells into his shotgun. Tim's handmade Italian shotgun can hold 4 shells in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. Bird hunters know that you've got to use a plug to limit the capacity of your shotgun to 2 shells in the magazine and 1 in the chamber. Did Tim forget about this rule or is the truth that he has no idea what he is doing. The press pool on the hunt reported that Tim never fired his shotgun at any point during the hunt. The penalty for Tim's transgression is a $15,000 fine, 6 months in jail, and forfeiture of his firearm. Also, how does a high school teacher with no savings or investments afford a handmade Italian shotgun? Was it a gift from the CCP on one of his many visits? Finally, for those of you who are avid bird hunters you might know that if you're ONLY hunting pheasant there is no limit on the size of your magazine (you can use a 32-shell drum magazine if you like) UNLESS you're in a Waterfowl Production Area (WPA). If you're in a WPA you've got to use a plug to limit your magazine size. Sleepy Eye, MN, is located within the Windom Wetland Management District, which oversees about 17,000 acres of federal Waterfowl Production Areas spread across 13 counties in southern Minnesota. These WPAs are part of the National Wildlife Refuge System and are managed for waterfowl production, wildlife habitat, and recreation activities, including hunting. If you are hunting pheasants in areas that are designated WPAs, you need to follow federal regulations, which include limiting shotgun capacity to three shells. This rule applies in federal WPAs to align with general waterfowl hunting regulations and conservation efforts. Therefore, if hunting pheasants in a WPA near Sleepy Eye, you must use a plug to limit your shotgun capacity to three shells to comply with these regulations.
