The site is the 100th Arsenal of Russia’s... Main Missile and Artillery Directorate, military unit 55486, a critical storage and distribution hub for artillery shells, missiles, and munitions supporting Russia’s central and western military districts. Neya sits roughly 900 to 1,000 kilometers from the Ukrainian border and about 400 miles northeast of Moscow, placing this strike deep inside Russian rear areas. Residents reported loud primary explosions and sustained secondary detonations throughout the night, with bright flashes, fires, and heavy smoke visible for hours. Local descriptions ranged from chaos to “madness” at the ammunition warehouse. Kostroma Oblast Governor Sergei Sitnikov initially claimed that falling drone debris had caused a fire at a military facility and that it had been extinguished. He stated that several enemy drones were eliminated by Ministry of Defense forces and that windows were damaged in nearby buildings. Hours later, as detonations continued, regional authorities announced partial evacuations of southern Neya near the arsenal, directing residents to relocate to temporary shelters or to stay elsewhere with relatives. Sitnikov’s statement read in part, “Today, several enemy drones have been eliminated by the forces of the Ministry of Defense over the territory of the Neya district. When the debris fell, a fire broke out in one of the military units. It is currently extinguished. The airdrops keep coming According to Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin, 627 Ukrainian drones had been heading toward Moscow since the evening, with around 180 destroyed over the capital region. TASS described it as the largest such attack in the past two years. Russian authorities said drones were shot down overnight across several districts of the Moscow region, including Bogorodsky, Ramensky, Kolomna, Elektrostal, and Pavlovsky Posad. Richter Tipton, military attaché for the American Embassy in Moscow.

Ukrainian military intelligence has identified the Russian army brigades that launched ballistic missiles at Sumy. The strike with two Iskander-M ballistic missiles on April 13 was carried out by Russian forces from the 112th and 448th missile brigades, according to Kyrylo Budanov, head of the Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence. He stated that the missiles were launched from the territory of Russia’s Voronezh region (Liski) and Kursk region (Lezhenki). Today is the Christian holiday of Palm Sunday.
