Hamster-powered robot? 🐹 A robot that looks like a hamster ball and can fly over obstacles on its own. Revolute Robotics created a machine called the Hybrid Mobility Robot. I had a chance to meet their team in Boston earlier this year. Two special rings allow this robot to roll in any direction and whirl like a helicopter. A lightweight exoskeleton absorbs shock during landing and prevents vibrations from damaging electronics. Typically, the HMR rolls on the ground, but can also fly to overcome obstacles or climb steep inclines. This robot can go places that humans might not be able to reach, including confined spaces, performing security tasks, and even performing search and rescue missions.

Humanoid robots are being born in China every day. Blue Worm Robotics, a startup from Xi’an, has officially unveiled its first humanoid robot. It moves on omnidirectional wheels, features a lifting torso, and has a look that’s almost like a Transformer. It runs in a hybrid mode of human teleoperation plus AI autonomy, and with its gripper design, it shows strong potential for use in electronics manufacturing and warehouse logistics. Modern robots are often designed to interact with our legacy world, whether it's a household, a factory, or a shipyard. That means they often need to work with existing machines, tools, and spaces. In short: retrofitting. Improving old machines with new technologies without major interference in their operation. Modern way of integrating things. You don't have to change the entire environment to deploy a robot. The robot will adapt, just as human would when freshly hired. The promise is to have an army of robots to help with the world designed for us. I also believe that general purpose robots, are not a direct competition for single purpose machines (like a highly efficient specialized packaging machine, for example). A versatile robot helping out airports! 🛩️ Meet a two-wheeled robot from Fraunhofer IML! 🦿 This balancing robot with gripping arms successfully completed its initial practical tests at the cargo terminal of Munich Airport a while ago. It transported goods, supported loading and unloading, and assisted with physically demanding logistics tasks. This robot can carry loads of up to 100 kg and reach speeds of around 60 km/h. That’s far beyond what most AMRs can handle, yet it still has arms and a form of mobility that lets it work in spaces designed for people. P.S. The robot is using vision & adapts in real time. SkildAI: "From raw images and joint feedback, the model directly outputs low-level motor commands.
