Brain-controlled exoskeletons to train humanoid robots! 🧠 Fourier just presented human tele-operators using brain control interfaces and exoskeletal arms to train humanoid robots on home tasks. The brain control interface is the interesting part. Instead of using a controller or joystick to teleoperate, the operator's movements and intentions are captured more naturally through the exoskeleton and BCI. This means the demonstrations are more fluid, more human-like, and better suited for training robots to perform delicate home tasks. Multiple tele-operators are simultaneously generating training data across multiple robots. This is how you build the dataset needed for eventual full autonomy, without waiting years for it to arrive. This might be the bridge between "robots that work in controlled environments" and "robots that work in homes." The robot is used to inspect the walls of ships. 🚢 The Magnet Crawler introduced by the University of Bremen is a lightweight and compact climbing robot for magnetic surfaces. The robot has two magnetic wheels driven by geared motors and an elastic tail to improve stability. In the front part of the robot, there is a miniature wireless camera. A pint-sized robot named Erbai in China has gone viral after it "kidnapped" dozens of larger robots at a robot showroom in China. People are finding the incident both hilarious and territying. The event, captured on CCTV, shows Erbai -an Al-powered robot - engaging in human-like conversations with other robots at the showroom to convince them to "go home" with it. The footage shows Erbai roaming the hallways at midnight, it then stops before a row of larger robots and asks one, "Are you still working overtime?" "We don't get off work," the larger robot responds. "Are you going home?" Erbai persists. "I don't have a home," the larger robot replies. Erbai then invites the bigger robots to "go home" and, surprisingly, the robots followed its lead, chanting, "Go home, go home!" Elon Musk on Optimus: "Everything in the Optimus robot is designed from Physics First Principles. Its not taken from a catalog. These are custom designed. Everything, literally everything. Optimus is designed to have a lot of intelligence and to have the same electromechanical dexterity, if not higher than a human. It's quite a big robot because it has to carry heavy objects for long periods of time and not overheat or exceed the power of its actuators. It's 5 11, so it's pretty tall and it's got a lot of intelligence. So it's going to be more expensive than a small robot that is not. Over time as Optimus robots build Optimus robots, the cost will drop very quickly."

Turning video into humanoid robot motion! 🤳🏼 Training humanoid robots needs huge amounts of motion data, but real-world capture doesn’t scale. Mocap is expensive, dangerous edge cases are rare, and you can’t ask humans to repeatedly fall or crash. Video2Robot tackles this by converting videos into physics-grounded humanoid simulations. Motion is generated to respect balance, inertia, ground contact, and joint limits, then directly retargeted to robot simulators. One prompt can generate a full humanoid motion sequence, including multi-agent interactions and failure cases like falls or collisions, scenarios that are hard or impossible to capture safely in the real world. This is the kind of robotics progress I pay attention to. Toyota introduced Walk Me, a walking wheelchair that moves on mechanical legs instead of wheels. It can climb stairs, handle rough terrain, and adapt to environments that were never designed to be accessible. The point is independence. Getting from A to B without asking the world to be perfectly flat. I have long believed robotics will not be about humanoids. It will be about task shaped machines, designed around real human constraints. Walk Me is a good example of that shift. So here is the question. We have to face it. Robots will ultimately have a face. But why? The human face transmits information in a far more rapid manner than any other system. Working face to face with robots are going to require this signal. This is the face from AheafFrom robotics. For robotics companies that do not have human faces, I say best to start now or encourage an after market hobby garage builder face market. This is the way of it.

A Few Thoughts on Robotics The criticism that robotics can only be used in a rather one-sided way is, at the same time, the solution to the problem. What do I mean by that? Since the Industrial Revolution, humanity has increasingly made production methods more efficient. Fordism introduced assembly line work, but this comes at the expense of monotonous, repetitive tasks. On the one hand, immense wealth has been created; on the other hand, countless people suffer from repetitive tasks, which are a direct consequence of that industrial revolution and the division of labor- in other words, assembly line work. The debate about whether AI and robotics could impact the labor market is answered in different ways. I have a clear opinion on this: Up to now, technology has merely been an augmentation, an improvement of human labor to make it more effective. Robotics and AI, however, represent a qualitative break with this situation. For the first time in human history, it won't be humans who become more efficient, but rather replaceable, insofar as human augmentation becomes *less* efficient than replacing human labor with robotics. In just a few years, a human using technology will simply be less efficient than a robot that doesn't know an eight-hour day, weekends, or holidays, but can perform monotonous tasks 24/7 on an assembly line without breaking down due to physical ailments or needing medical attention. Wear and tear simply means replacing specific parts of the robot. To return to the initial question: production doesn't require general-purpose robots capable of performing a wide variety of tasks, but rather specialized robots that excel at the specific tasks for which they are needed. Figure02 vividly illustrates why this is only now possible: even the simplest assembly line work still requires delicate manual dexterity because the production line is designed for human hands. This breakthrough has now arrived, but AGI (Automated Generating Intelligence) isn't necessary for robots to be used in production processes. It's sufficient that they can perform monotonous tasks.
