𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗺𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗲𝗻𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗼𝗱 𝘀𝗲𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗶𝗻 𝗢𝘀𝘂𝗻. When we assumed office in 2022, there was no single functional tractor owned by the Osun State Government for the benefit of our farmers. Our administration therefore launched a phased procurement programme, and we purchased 31 tractors in the first... batch, which have been deployed across the 30 Local Government Areas and the Area Office. We have also continued to provide improved seedlings for cash-crop farmers, feeds for poultry farmers, agricultural inputs and cash grants to support farmers and strengthen their businesses. Our goal is to build a thriving agricultural sector where farmers have access to modern equipment, quality inputs, financing and markets, while ensuring that food is available and affordable for every family in Osun. Since their deployment, the tractors have been actively used for land clearing, ploughing, harrowing, and other preparatory activities, helping farmers expand cultivation areas and reduce the cost and time required for farm operations. These equipment has greatly enhanced productivity, supported early land preparation for planting seasons, and contributing to our administration’s broader goal of strengthening food security and enhancing commercial-scale farming in Osun State.

The Ministry of Agriculture must urgently prioritize dismantling the fertilizer cartels that have hijacked the sector, leading to exorbitant prices and the distribution of substandard products. A lot of the fertilizer inputs come from Canada. Those have shot up because of tariffs. And then, about a quarter of all farmers use the Affordable Care Act for their health care coverage. And so this president is just contributing to the headwinds that our farmers are facing.

The distribution of 400 trucks of fertilizer free of charge to 100,000 smallholder farmers further demonstrates our firm commitment to strengthening food security and empowering the backbone of our economy which is agriculture. In less than two years, we have distributed a total of 900 trucks of fertilizers to 220,000 smallholder farmers—making Kaduna State the only state in Nigeria that has consistently provided such large-scale support while delivering other critical farming inputs at no cost.

Great news for Alaska fishermen and our coastal communities! The new Office of Seafood within Dept. of Agriculture is something I’ve been pushing for years. Our fishermen are farmers of the sea and deserve the same access to USDA programs our farmers have. This new office will help make that happen. Thanks Secretary Brooke Rollins and Howard Lutnick for keeping your commitment to me to create this office and Secretary Doug Burgum and NEC Director Kevin Hassett for your support for our fishermen in Alaska and across the country!

Our Living Income Differential (LID), introduced jointly with la Côte d’Ivoire, reflects our commitment to ensuring farmers earn a fair return for their labour. In closing, I stated that Ghana’s path forward is clear: we must move beyond exporting raw cocoa beans to building an economy that empowers farmers, creates decent jobs, and promotes sustainability. Together, we can build a cocoa sector that not only sweetens the world’s palate but enriches the lives of the farmers and communities who make it possible.
