Parents Promised to Pay for College… Until Their Daughter Broke One Rule Caller: My husband and I have been on your plan off and on. We’ve paid off all our debt at one point, and then I was stupid, got back into it. One of the driving forces is we want to cash flow our kids’ college. I’ve told my kids since they were in middle school, “We will pay for college, but you have to live at home, you have to go to a school that we approve of, and you have to have good grades.” Dave Ramsey: Yeah, that’s fine. I did the same thing except the live-at-home part. John Delony: Why do you add that you have to live at home? Caller: Because where I live there are so many colleges within 20 minutes of our home that there is no reason for you to not live at home. Dave Ramsey: Okay. It’s your money, and those are your rules. What’s your question? Caller: My daughter refuses to stay home and go to school. She wants to go to WSU, which is six hours away, and they require you to live on campus and have the food program. John Delony: This is very simple. She’s opting out of your rules. Caller: Yes. And it’s just… it’s very difficult for me. John Delony: You drew a very hard line, a very clear line. This is the way this is going to be, and she said, “Cool. We just finished our 3rd of of 2026 and it’s still only Feb‼️ We’re a bit run down, some are sick from all the travel and lack of sleep, but grateful for the results. In this last one, we got another 5 child predator arrests and an estimate 29 warrants for more‼️ We play no favorites and prosecute them all. Young Americans no longer see the point in working. Everything is so expensive, they see no future “There's no reward for our work anymore,” younger generations have no hope, they’re “betting on the world to end” “How are we gonna do this for the rest of our lives? And I just have to say low key. I feel like a lot of young people right now in the workforce, I see comments all the time that are like, I'm betting on the world to end. It's like, yeah, me too. Like, how f*cked up of an economy, of a society, of a country are we living in right now? That you're young people, you're new to the workfor force, Young people are basically, like — There's no reward for our work anymore. What's the reward like? Oh, you get to go to sleep at night and then wake up a couple hours later and get back on the grind, like, literally every single morning. I'm like, can't a meteor just hit the building I work at and none of us have to go? It'd be great for everyone, like, can't a massive lightning strike just take out the whole building” “Also, I don't want to see. I don't want to see one boomer in my comments being like, oh, you guys think you have it so bad? We had it so much worse than you. Okay, listen, Every generation goes through their own struggles, right? Okay? But statistically speaking, you could buy a house, support three children while your wife stayed home working at f*cking Michael's craft store. That doesn't exist anymore.
