Today was hilarious. Eby got asked if the public was essentially being asked to conserve electricity so it could go to LNG? Eby said no! The premier instead argued that the electricity was needed for many things like: 1) Data centres 2) Life sciences 3) Advanced manufacturing. 4) And LNG. It usually takes longer than 58 seconds for him to contradict himself. But today was a busy day. #bcpoli

Update: Even more drama in Saanich again tonight. Councillor Plant: “I’m not sure why my colleague is glaring at me. It’s not really very kind.” Councillor Chambers: “Point of Order!” Mayor Murdock: “I will hear the point of order, Councillor Chambers.” Councillor Chambers: “Sorry, Councillor Plant. I’m not glaring at you. I’m just in shock…” More Saanich Fireworks! What happened this time? Find out on tomorrow’s show. #yyj

Hilarious: Councillor Krista Loughton asks the chief if she is aware that council authorized $35,200 of extra overtime spending 2.5 years ago (very small amount) and how much council cares about keeping downtown safe? The chief fires back that VicPD doesn’t even have an established team that walks the beat and hasn’t for “many years” due to refusals by previous councils to increase authorized force strength further. “Ok…” Loughton acknowledges. #yyj

Today was so weird. Look at how they chose to stage David Eby in the press conference out in the rain at the BC Legislature today… The saddest guy in the world standing in the rain… Rob Shaw mentioned the premier didn’t seem angry… and he didn’t. He was uncharacteristically morose and almost somber. Look at him. (Apparently the provincial cabinet was on the steps behind him as a cheer squad? This is just weird…) #bcpoli

Update: Premier David Eby responds to a question from Vaughn Palmer about 9 yr old Charleigh Pollock having her medicine defunded by the government. Eby says he does not favour intervening in cases like this and he cautions that a system in which politicians did intervene could be one that is “worse.” #bcpoli

Wow. Honeymoon over. Today Matt Dell attacked Victoria Police’s social media use, accusing the department of spreading fear, referencing a recent post about guns removed from supportive housing. Do you agree with Matt Dell? Let us know in the replies below. #yyj

Wow. B.C. Premier David Eby says Canada “can’t have an immigration system that fills up our homeless shelters and our food banks,” during a media availability earlier today. He says British Columbia is willing to convene with other provinces who want to have a grown-up discussion about this issue and what needs to be done to address it… #bcpoli

I was curious about Gavin Dew's remarks yesterday that led to accusations of sexism today by the premier and others, so I went and clipped the minutes before and after where he talks about the entire NDP caucus being whipped to vote in favour of the new restrictions on Freedom of Information. Here they are to judge for yourself. #bcpoli

Update: Charleigh’s mom Jori posted this reel last night with a collection of photos and videos, arguing “Charleigh deserves better than her story ending with this heartbreaking decision.” Her last funded infusion of her medicine was on Thursday. The family waits for a last-minute reprieve from the B.C. Government that they fear may never come… #bcpoli

Last Chance: The Province of British Columbia has granted a request for an in-person meeting between Jori Fales, Charleigh Pollock, and BC Health Minister Josie Osborne in a last minute attempt to have funding restored for the 9yr old's expensive medication for Batten disease. Jori and Charleigh won't be facing the government alone either... Some voices we've heard on the show lately are flying in to help. #bcpoli

Update: Premier David Eby says “the door is always open if there’s additional evidence…” in the case of Charleigh Pollock. Wow. This tone is one that is very different from the “final decision” tone we heard June 18th. Asked whether she should have her medicine funding resumed pending a further review, Eby told Rob Shaw he doesn’t have an answer “yet,” which indicates it is possible at this point. #bcpoli

ICYMI: 1000+ days in Langford — it can’t be a real place. Sept 22, 2022 — Langford Committee votes to recommend naming a new park after long-serving former Councillor Winnie Sifert. An election happens… Dec 5, 2022 — the new Langford Now council votes in favour of a proposal by Councillor Szpak to put the Sifert Park naming process on hold, pending a review of the park naming policy. There is no timeline given. They don’t ask for one. Perhaps they will regret not doing so. Time passes… Dec 4, 2023 — Winnie’s daughter Sandy Sifert asks the new council when the process will be done? Their family has waited nearly a year, which will turn out to be just the beginning of this saga. Jan 15, 2024 — Sifert asks why the minutes from December don’t include her asking about the delay in naming the park for her mom. She finds it suspicious that written records would be omitted on this issue. Time passes…. Aug 28, 2024 — “it’s almost been two whole years,” Sifert tells the meeting before being shut down yet again. Sept 3, 2024 — Sifert brings it up again and she is shut down again. Sept 23, 2024 — “let’s say no to Tiny Town and yes to Winnie’s Park,” Sifert says, before ending her call. Not giving up. Time passes… Dec 2, 2024 — “Why is a park not named for Winnie…” another resident asks before being shutdown by the mayor, three days before the two year anniversary of the park naming process being put on hold. Jan 13, 2025 — Hope remains. Sifert suggests Woodlands Park could be renamed Winnie Sifert Park, because both start with W. The mayor interjects. Feb 25, 2025 “It’s 26 months later and I’ve heard nothing,” Sifert tells a committee meeting, saying this issue should have been done right away after the Dec 2022 meeting where the process was started. Staff advises the issue hasn’t been forgotten and an update will be coming. March 3, 2025 Sifert reminds council yet again her family is still waiting. “Alright, that’s not what we’re talking about here,” the mayor tells her… “Whatever,” Sifert rebuts. Time passes… Next week, FINALLY this issue is on the agenda for Tuesday (see embedded tweet). #yyj

“What if they need to medicate as soon as they’re done using a public computer at the library applying for a job, because it was stressful?” “I’m very angry. I’m very opposed to this.” Victoria Councillor Susan Kim on a ban on hard drug possession & use 30m from libraries #yyj
