A few people in the comments mentioned wanting to see the effect inverted, so it would make things in the distance seem smaller than when they were in the foreground. Decided to try that out.

Retro Game Engine Update 🔥 Exploring a Spatial Compression system in my game engine. Instead of changing object scale, the renderer subtly compresses distant depth in the vertex shader before projection. The goal is to make far-away spaces feel more scenic and theatrical, like a matte painting or miniature set,while keeping nearby space physically grounded and navigable. Same exact scene with this on/off for comparison. What do you think?

120 days ago... I decided to make my own custom game engine. I'm just a technical artist, never done anything like it, just wanted to learn new things. Its been one of the most exciting things I've worked on in game dev. Can't wait to see what's next! What do you think?

100 Days... since I decided to try and make my own game engine. Not an engineer. Just a tech artist who wanted to learn & make something new. 100 days of excitement, despair, frustration, giddiness, sweat, & tears. Its been miserable. I've loved every minute of it. Its not amazing, I still have much to learn...but I made everything here and I'm proud of it. #gamedev #indiedev

I want TIME to be a first-class system in my custom game engine. I'm exploring fully deterministic tick-driven architecture that is replayable. No frame-driven/delta time dependencies. I easily scrub backwards in time w/ the click of a key, then let the sim continue onwards.
