I found not only the acting and music choice to be genius, but the choreography of everything that showed how Tony really fooled Junior and the feds. The way Tony Soprano stands over his uncle commanding the situation, how Junior's card still has Capo on it (even though it's crossed out) and when the fed writes boss on it, the camera immediately cuts to Anthony's photo. The cinematography really showed how he hid in plain sight.

The ending of Everybody Hates Chris is a brilliant tribute to The Sopranos. Chris sits in a diner as his family arrives one by one. “Livin’ on a Prayer” replaces “Don’t Stop Believin’,” while Julius struggles to park outside. But instead of Tony waiting for Meadow, Chris is waiting for his GED results. Julius finally arrives with the envelope. Chris asks, “What’s it say?” And just like The Sopranos, the screen cuts to black. One show left us wondering whether Tony survived. The other left us wondering whether Chris passed his exam. Same diner. Same tension. Completely different stakes.

Ever notice how Adriana's name is never mentioned? It’s more about her relation to all these people. Not “don’t hit Adriana,” it’s “don’t hit my niece.” When she’s your wife, you can. It’s essentially explaining where she falls in the hierarchy between Christopher and Richie and the rules associated with that, as opposed to Richie caring about her being hit. Adriana's got nuttin to do with it. The writing is insane.

Don’t ever let anyone tell you The Sopranos isn’t a comedy. This whole scene plays like a Dragnet parody, with the rapid-fire dialogue and dead-serious delivery. And the way he jabs his finger into the pizza to emphasize that it was a custom job with extra mozzarella absolutely kills me.

My understanding of this scene is that, in life, there are things or moments you don’t even know about that are ultimately important for you, sometimes even determining life or death. Everybody has probably lived through a situation like this without even knowing it, avoiding an accident, an aggression, or meeting the wrong person. It’s scary.

Chris and Sil can't kill Jimmy if he's wearing a wire, so the writers have to communicate to the viewer that he isn't wearing one in this scene in order for the killing to make sense. But the genius of the writing is that they reveal the information in a way that the viewer barely notices. Jimmy is nervous to make a good impression on the Russian girls; he's naturally thinking about his appearance and what they'll think of him, and in that context it makes perfect sense for his character to complain to Chrissie "hey you didn't let me put on anything decent". And that is flawless exposition because it literally disappears into the scene - it flows so completely with the conversation that there's no reason to consider its significance until Sil appears and Chrissie repeats Jimmy's words. Like I've literally watched this scene before more than once, I knew exactly how it ended, and the line "you didn't let me put on anything decent" STILL went over my head just because of how much it makes sense in the context of the conversation they're having. It's masterful.
