A decade lost, £millions squandered, and now the final 1.6 miles. Whether turtle doves and martins have a home to return to next spring – and whether we leave a liveable planet for the next generation – hangs on the Public Inquiry starting *16th September 2025* and the final decision of Heidi Alexander MP. This will set a precedent for how our county grows, consequences rippling across the landscape. If you haven’t yet added your name to the 23,000-strong petition, now is the time. If you have, share it widely. Challenge the untruths. Speak up. Bear witness at the inquiry. Support Cambridge Past, Present & Future + Coton Busway Action Group 🍃💚🍃, and remember the human, weary people behind these profiles. And to the press, who have been brilliant so far: shine your light even brighter. After a week of being pilloried by County barristers, we’re feeling a bit tender about claims that Coton Orchard has no worth, no public amenity, it’s “just trees” and that the bonkers busway would somehow improve anything. It’s not perfect and neither are we, but we care deeply and do our best without funding, relying on volunteers, goodwill and our own sweat. Thank you to everyone who’s stood beside us to help #SaveCotonOrchard

Melancholy this evening. Trying to find the closing words to speak for a place that should not have needed defending. What will the turtle doves, house martins, fieldfares… and cuckoos return to next season, if they return❓ #SaveCotonOrchard ✏️

One more chance to #SaveCotonOrchard before the decision leaves local control. This bonkers plan to “pave paradise…” still needs Cambridgeshire County Council approval—they say it’s a “rubber stamp”. Let’s make enough noise so councillors pause and really consider the impact on wildlife across Madingley Hill Preservation. Sign the petition, write your councillor, help defend nature!! 🌳🚌❌✏️

Well Cambridgeshire County Council didn’t listen—not to The Wildlife Trusts, People's Trust for Endangered Species or 12 other NGOs. Not to economists, ecologists, climate experts, Lords, Baronesses, Nobel winers, Chris Packham nor Sir David—or 23,000+ petitioners. Tomorrow, we hope the inspectors will. Battle lines are drawn for September’s Public Inquiry. Thank you to all who’ve given time, care and courage. Hang in there. Pls sign & share the petition. Help #SaveCotonOrchard ✏️ 🌳🚌❌

A flight over the scrub at Coton today to show the number of non-fruit trees that will be dug up for the Greater Cambridge Partnership road for buses (see houses for scale). A #biodiverse habitat that’s home to birds, butterflies, badgers, foxes…. Gone. Pls sign/share the petition to #SaveCotonOrchard 🌳🦊🚌❌🖊️
