Peter Dinklage on the day Leonardo DiCaprio walked right past him unnoticed "I was being harassed a little bit... and Leonardo DiCaprio walked right by me in a baseball cap and sunglasses and he just went and gave me a little nod." "I was like God they don't even know because they're not looking for Leo they just see me." The most famous dwarf on the planet gets stopped on the street while Leo strolls by in full stealth mode. Fame hits different when you're the one people are actually looking for.

werner herzog on why he will never go to therapy "i'd rather die than go to an analyst" "if you harshly light every last corner of a house the house will be uninhabitable it's like that with your soul" he just dropped the coldest take on therapy ive ever heard and somehow made it sound completely normal

Michael Douglas on the first night he met Catherine Zeta-Jones "I looked at the front door of the hotel... oh my God that's Catherine Zeta-Jones walking this way. She came by afterwards for a nightcap... we talked and we had a lovely conversation and then we found out we have exactly the same birthday... and about that time I blurted out 'I'm going to be the father of your children.'" "She looked at me and she said 'you know I've heard a lot about you... I guess it's all true. Good night.' And I thought oh man it's all over." "I would never have even approached her if I hadn't seen an interview where she said 'I like older men.'" The most legendary first-date line in Hollywood history 🔥

Martin Scorsese on why plot doesn't matter "Marty said many times that plot is irrelevant to him. He wants to follow the soul of that certain character and all the plot mechanics or how things work out are sort of secondary." "You take a film like Vertigo. The plot if you just read the plot is absurd. But why do you keep watching it? There's something else going on and we're looking for that something else constantly." "It's very hard to find a partner that could do that with you. So I've been very very very fortunate." This is the entire Scorsese-DiCaprio partnership in three lines 🔥

Paul Thomas Anderson says the worst writer move is deciding the shot before the character will do it "probably that's what got me in trouble for so many years is having preconceived ideas about what I would want to do" "you might want to do it, but the characters don't want to do it" i've forced scenes the characters hated and paid for it later, he learned to obey their integrity

Dean Norris on the real reason Bryan Cranston was the best lead he ever worked with "He was always on. Literally six years I don't remember a time he was ever late on set. He was always the first guy on set." "He never caused problems or was diva-esque." "All of us then like oh you know Brian's going to be on time we have to be on time." six years and bryan never once showed up late. no ego trips no diva shit just pure professionalism that forced everybody else to step up. this is the standard i wish more people in this industry actually lived by.

Daniel Day-Lewis says most people talking about method acting have no idea what they're talking about "all the recent commentary the last few years about method acting is invariably from people that have little or no understanding of what it actually involves" "it's almost if it's like some specious science that we're involved or a cult or something" "it's just a way of freeing yourself so that the spontaneity when you are working with your colleagues in front of the camera that you are free to respond" he just called the whole method acting debate fake and somehow made it sound completely calm

Tony Gilroy tried to renegotiate for just half a dozen of the things he invented, and he still walks away owning nothing in Star Wars "I don't own anything. I don't own one single thing in Star Wars." "we don't own any of the stuff that we make up" i would have held the scripts hostage for one planet with my name on it, because if you build the thing and sign it all away you're not the creator, you're the most expensive hired hand in the building

Hayden Panettiere on the day she asked her mother to just be her mom "When I was 19, I finally got the guts... I said to her, 'I don't want us to work together anymore. I just want you to be my mom.'" "And I wasn't expecting the reaction that I got, which was, 'You owe me.' And that's all she said. And she walked out." "It was disappointing to find out that it was money... and that she didn't care to have a relationship with me as just a mother-daughter." This is the moment that defined so much of her life.

Josh Brolin on turning down Avatar for Thanos "I don't want to do this. I don't want to take a year and a half out." "Then Thanos comes up and you go yes immediately. I'm purple and I have a ball sack for a chin." "Count me in." He said no to James Cameron and Avatar because he refused to disappear into the machine for 18 months. Then the purple guy showed up and he jumped in without thinking twice. That is how you pick your battles.

Ethan Hawke on Sidney Lumet playing him and Philip Seymour Hoffman against each other "I'd come in in the morning and Sidney would say, 'I saw dailies last night. Phil is so good. Not since Marlon Brando have I seen work like that.'" "At wrap of the movie, I went up to Phil and I said, 'I'm so glad it's over. Because if I gotta hear one more time from that old dog that not since Marlon Brando have I seen work like this.'" "And Phil goes, 'He said that to you? He said that to me every day about you.'" "We walked over to Sidney and we said, 'You told us both the other one was like Marlon Brando.' He's like, 'Eh, you guys are so easy to play. It's unbelievable.'" The greatest director mind game in Hollywood history 😂
