Giga Texas today is busy with production coming back up following the long weekend. Of interest today in the outbound lot is the appearance of hundreds of Mode; YL’s and many more Cybercabs and for the 1st time equipped with the Starlink module one the hatch in big numbers. At the Cybercab Launch Event last week, I talked to some employees who were very proud of the production ramp of the Model YLs and were looking forward to me flying to show you just how well the ramp is going! With the Cybercabs starting to be produced off the production line with the Starlink addition to the hatch, this may show that this has moved from the conceptual and testing phase to more of a production phase with the appropriate tooling and DIE changes rather than being retrofitted. Check out a Model YLs parked next to Cybercabs for a sense of the scale between the two vehicles!

I had the chance to talk to the head of the Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) Tesla team that developed the process, machines, materials and production line responsible for the Cybercab exterior (and some interior) plastic panels. What is RIM? Reaction injection molding (RIM) is a manufacturing process that injects two liquid chemicals into a mold to create strong, lightweight plastic parts. The primary benefits to Tesla? Tesla uses Reaction Injection Molding (RIM) for the Cybercab primarily to eliminate the traditional automotive paint shop, which is historically one of the most expensive, space-consuming, and environmentally taxing parts of car manufacturing. Tesla's goal for mass production is a highly compact, parallel modular assembly system called the "unboxed" process. By skipping the massive infrastructure of a paint shop, Tesla can reduce the factory footprint by roughly 50%. Since the colored panels come out of the molds nearly complete, they don't have to follow a strict sequential painting order and can be easily bolted on toward the end of assembly, minimizing the risk of factory scratches. In the Tesla application for Cybercab, the RIM gold exterior body panels have a underlying reinforced plastic inner support panel that is plastic laser welded (& some industrial adhesives) bonded to the outer panel. When I first saw the early production tests, I noticed there were visible "distortions" where the contact points occurred and this detracted from the overall look of the Cybercab. The team worked very hard to address this issue and made a number of production process modifications that virtually eliminated this issue and I can say the Cybercabs I saw and rode in at the Launch Event looked exceptionally clean. Amazing work by the Plastics team to not only develop this process and the machinery and materials used, but to refine the production process to get such an amazing result! Thanks to Xander Sky for making this video clip!

1 Day left until the Tesla Cybercab Launch Event here in Austin and the Giga Texas test track was busy with more Cybercab night testing with beautiful views of downtown Austin peeking over the horizon supervising the final preparations! I have hear night testing has been on-going for quite some time, particularly in the last week. I hope you enjoy this short video clip of the action on this last day before Cybercab makes its grand debut!

What is going on at the Space & Tesla Terafab? Almost unbelievable progress right out of the gates! Already the first part of foundation construction has started. As a reminder, the Terafab project was formally announced in March this year and initial ground breaking & clearing began only about 1 month ago! Terafab, once completed, will be about the size of 10 Giga Texas factories ... this is a gigantic construction project and the speed so far is quite impressive. Here are some thoughts and discussion from my drone flight today.

They say Terafab is going to be built … they are wrong. It is already being built, right now! My first drone flight over the location of what will be the most advanced chip fabrication plant & largest building in the world … and surprise, just like the Giga Texas announcement, construction is already underway! Thank you to Tesla for approving my flight over this facility. Lots yet to come I am sure! Main video coming a bit later!

Weekly drone flight update on the Giga Texas Tesla Optimus factory construction. There is a noticeable jump in steel assembly this week … mid/south bays filling over the footing field, the steel structure assembly is pushing towards the north grade beam. This is the brand-new dedicated ~7M sq ft plant for the 10M/yr line. First (limited) production is expected sometime in late 2027. Meanwhile, some other Optimus Robot news: at the Fremont factory in California, the smaller 1M/yr pilot production plant is reportedly coming on-line quickly. Supply-chain reports this week of a first ~5k-unit parts order (unconfirmed). Optimus may be the hardest product Tesla has ever tried to scale and both the pilot line at Fremont and this new factory (10X larger) are making fast progress to allow the scale manufacturing needed for millions of humanoid robots coming in the next few years, beginning with the V3 robots from Fremont starting in 2027 and then V4 robots from this facility late in 2027 and into 2028. It’s a good morning for a 360 degree flyover of the Giga Texas Optimus Factory! This higher-altitude flyby helps to show the extent of the construction & the progress that is being made in a rapid time period. If you recall, the foundation was just dirt in early March of this year when major excavation work was just about to begin!

Cybercab action today at the Giga Texas Test Track Operations Center… more Cybercabs on the track and in staging than I’ve ever seen! Check out the conga line of Cybercabs on the track! Superchargers are also being installed, hinting we will be seeing this level of activity for some time to come! Also, we see a long line of these with their hatches open … wonder what they are doing with these?

Breaking Giga Texas News! starting today, new vehicles (Model Ys & Cybertruck are moving fully autonomously from the factory to the west outbound lot and without human supervisors! I saw this happening constantly, with Model Ys exiting and immediately driving away on their own from the factory. This is a huge accomplishment for Tesla as now Giga Texas joins Fremont as FSD improves overall efficiency!

Want to know what it sounded like during the launch of Flight 12 of Starship today? Check out this video and the shaking of the windows. This was during my livestream with Ellie in Space 🚀💫 (Ellie in Space) at a ouse about 5 miles from the launch site. Definitely have the volume up! Truly a powerful rocket ... the most powerful ever!

Cybercab production over the past week or so has been noticeably very low, but today, we are seeing more starting to line up on the W side of the EOL at Giga Texas, but this time, many with the “Cybercab” logos on the doors and the hatches. Not sure if this indicates anything of note, but is worth keeping an eye on! I know there is a lot of interesting details in how and when these will begin to be part of the Tesla Robotaxi fleet & service, but I think we still have some time to go until that happens, but I hope its soon-ish!

Cybercabs doing heavy testing on the Giga Texas track today, with ~30 Cybercabs doing constant stop-and-go testing along with more lane changes around the large oval. Crews were working on the last segment of the “cobblestone” portion of the inner track for further tests. I also saw a “Cybercab” logo’d variant next to the iconic “Fork in the Road” display on the S end of the factory, while more employee autonomous Cybercab rides were happening all over the site today. In a separate post, I’ll share some images of many newly produced Cybercabs at the E Factory exit and in the outbound lot today! 1 week until the big Cybercab Launch Event!

Happy 8 April (Wednesday) at Giga Texas, especially for those wanting an update on Cybercabs … I saw about 60 of them in two groups in the outbound lot today … the largest grouping yet! Also, looks like at least some of these have white seats and most still have clearly visible steering wheels … I will let you conclude what you wish from that, but these still do not look like the final “production” versions, so perhaps they are testing out some of the new features while testing some of the Robotaxi areas around the country.

It’s Cybercab Bonanza day at Giga Texas! Fresh off the posting yesterday showing Cybercabs autonomously driving out of the production like exit point and taking the ~2 mile trip to the W EOL and Tesla being granted a Level 4 Autonomous @Roxotabw service license in Texas, today we see a lot of Cybercabs on the move, with the hatch open showing the wheel covers prepped for shipping, ~ a dozen lined up at the factory exit point and much more! Check out this Cybercab action today!

The outbound lot at Giga Texas is overflowing with Model Y’s, Cybertruck and Cybercabs! The sorting lanes near the EOL facility are all full and the line of new cars extends to the Cybertunnel and even further south! Production of the “standard” AWD Cybertruck is underway and visible, which supports posts of new owners being assigned VINs. Expected first deliveries of these lower cost AWD trucks should begin by June! Cybercabs were driving around, doing figure 8’s on the small track & being loaded onto transport trucks! Check it out!

30+ Cybercabs on the move via transport trucks & at the crash testing facility today. I’ve had many viewers ask how these Cybercabs are loaded up on the trucks and today’s your lucky day. I captured this in progress. The Cybercabs being loaded onto the trucks have Steering wheels so this means these are for testing purposes only, likely headed to cities around the country as Tesla prepares for Cybercabs to enter into the Tesla Robotaxi fleet sometime in April. Wondering what the new Optimus Factory at Giga Texas looks like & where this is located/how big it is compared to the rest of the site? Here’s a short video clip showing a high altitude view along with lower more detailed views too. The final length of the building is beginning to emerge, with the S perimeter beam and what appears to be the beveled corners being graded out. The main steel structure is now 16 column grids long, which is about 720 feet or ~ 219 meters long so far and growing!

Wow is the Giga Texas outbound lot full today and its every vehicle product in production at the factory! 100’s of Model Y’s & crucially, a lot of Model YLs too … backing up the mid-September start of delivery many reservation holders a re hearing! Lots of Cybertruck in the lot and driving out from the factory to the W EOL for processing. This is great to see and also backs up stories of many people taking deliveries. What is a bit odd is that those with reservations from the $59K event and previously told to expect delivery in 2027 are taking delivery now. Not sure, but it seems that the reservation # doesn’t necessarily mean it is in sequential order. And not to be outdone, many more Cybercabs int eh outbound toot today too, some with “Cybercab” logos. I did not see any of these with the Starlink modifications, so not sure what to make of this, but great to see production happening ahead of the big Cybercab Launch Event coming up soon!
