There was a time I had to get up at 2AM just to watch anime. Every saturday it was this or nothing. If you didn't have a VCR to automatically record things you were fucked. Imagine that. Waiting an ENTIRE week just to watch anime. You have no idea how good you have things now.

Why is this the title of every anime now?

Apparently there was a weight loss commercial where they made Cutie Honey fat &amp; it looked like this.

Even as a Kid, you could tell when a cartoon was animated in Japan. You'd watch something like Tiny Toons, &amp; suddenly the animation quality would skyrocket. I see the stuff TMS did in the 80s &amp;, it's so fluid it makes me wonder how it ended up being made in the first place.

The scariest thing about this anime was finding out it's only 24 minutes long.

I wonder how many people have seen Sailor Moon on VHS with 100% clarity.

"Oh yeah Bomberman Jetters. That anime where they copied the SEINFELD Theme." ...the what......THE WHAT?

People focus on the wrong aspects of this scene. Each item is a physical object that exists in the real world. 80s artists would draw something, for no reason other than to sketch a detailed refrigerator or Computer to prove they could. The character is just punctuation.

So anyway I restored Daicon IV from scratch. This was a joint project with Chris Person (papapishu), who sourced the incredibly Rare Laserdisc release. The raw files can be found on the internet archive for those interested in processing it yourself. Enjoy!

Fascinated by these Japanese commercials for the Mitsuwa Soap Company. Created by Kihachirō Kawamoto (co-founder of Shiba productions), they're all stop motion &amp; done completely by hand. Shame they're only available online in low quality. The design &amp; movement is really charming.

Been watching this Isekai anime called "The Wizard of Oz" where a girl gets hit by a tornado. It's really good.

When did anime forget how to do atmosphere? This directing is fantastic.

Another example from the 90s. As cost rose, many techniques were created to save cels. A lot of them were very creative. Using photos gave anime a distinct fingerprint. Something doesn't always need to be animated to look good. I'd like to see this done in modern productions.
