BREAKING An officer-involved shooting occurred on August 4th, in the 4500 block of East Tropicana Avenue. This shooting left a suspect deceased at the scene. An LVMPD officer was transported to a local hospital, where, despite all life-saving efforts, he passed away. The officer had been with LVMPD since November 2023. Additional details will be released as they become available. Our condolences go out to the officer's family. We will support them in every way we can in the days ahead. This incident highlights the dangers law enforcement officers face in the line of duty.

REAL-TIME RESULTS! On May 12, a homeowner was out of town when their security cameras alerted them that someone was trying to get inside their Las Vegas home near Desert Inn and Arville. They called Metro. An LVMPD drone launched from a SkyPort and was overhead in seconds, locating the suspect outside the residence. Working together, the drone pilot and dispatcher quickly guided responding officers to the location, leading to an arrest. When every second counts, eyes in the sky can make all the difference. We have flown more than 12,000 drone flights so far in 2026. Today, our drones are arriving on scene before officers more than 70% of the time. That means faster response, better situational awareness, better information for our officers, and ultimately safer outcomes for our community.

🐾 Abandoned at the Airport… but Not Forgotten We can’t believe we have to say this… but please don’t abandon your dog at the airport — or anywhere else. On February 2, 2026, at approximately 11:39 p.m., LVMPD officers assigned to Harry Reid International Airport responded to Terminal 3 after receiving reports of a dog that had been tied to a metal carry-on baggage sizer and left behind at the JetBlue ticket counter. Airline staff advised the dog’s owner she was required to complete online documentation in order to travel with the animal as a service dog. When the required paperwork was not completed, the passenger was denied a boarding pass. She then left the dog behind and proceeded through the airport to the departure gate. Officers later located the individual at Gate D1. When asked why she abandoned the dog, she stated the airline would not allow her to fly with it and claimed the dog had a tracking device — implying it was acceptable to leave the animal behind and it would return to her. While escorting her back through the security checkpoint, she became hostile and resisted officers’ attempts to detain her. She was arrested and booked for: ▪️ Animal Abandonment ▪️ Resisting Arrest Airport employees and LVMPD Officers immediately stepped in to care for the approximately 2-year-old golden doodle/mini poodle while the owner was processed. Animal Protective Services took custody of the dog. After the mandatory 10-day hold period passed and the owner never returned, Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas stepped in. The dog — now affectionately named “Jet Blue” — is safe, in foster care, and will soon be placed in a new, loving home ❤️ This incident highlights: ✔️ LVMPD’s zero-tolerance stance on animal abuse and neglect ✔️ Strong collaboration between airport staff, TSA, Animal Control and Retriever Rescue of Las Vegas ✔️ That abandoning an animal is a serious criminal offense Event #: LLV260200007309

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department is once again teaming up with 7-Eleven for Operation Chill, an annual program that recognizes kids for making positive choices. This year, 7-Eleven is donating 26,000 Slurpee coupons, which will be distributed among the department's 10 area commands. Officers will hand out the coupons to children who are "caught" doing the right thing—whether it's wearing a helmet while riding a bike, using a crosswalk, or showing kindness by holding the door open for someone else. Beyond rewarding good behavior, Operation Chill helps strengthen positive relationships between officers and the communities they serve. 🚨 DRONE PROVIDES EYES OVERHEAD DURING VEHICLE VANDALISM CALL At approximately 9:40 a.m. on June 17, LVMPD Communications received a report of a man damaging a vehicle outside a store near Tropicana Avenue and Nellis Boulevard. A remote drone launched from a nearby LVMPD Skyport and quickly arrived overhead, where it captured the suspect striking the vehicle’s windows with a bicycle seat and a brick. The drone pilot provided real-time updates to responding officers, giving them critical information before they reached the scene. While officers were heading to the call, Good Samaritans had intervened and subdued the suspect. David Huerta Salgado, 39, was arrested and booked on multiple felony, gross misdemeanor and misdemeanor charges, including destroying or injuring property valued at $5,000 or more, injuring or tampering with a vehicle, resisting a public officer and possession of drug paraphernalia. DRONE SUCCESS STORY! LVMPD officers responded to a report of a battery near Las Vegas and Elvis Presley Boulevards. As officers headed to the area, a drone was quickly deployed and located the suspect from above. Even after the suspect attempted to discard his shirt to avoid identification, the drone maintained visual contact and guided officers directly to his location, leading to a quick and safe apprehension. DANGEROUS HEAT CONTINUES! 🚁 Busy Sunday for AIR1 and our LV Search & Rescue Search and Rescue (SAR) team. On Sunday, July 26, AIR1 crews responded to two separate rescue missions involving hikers in Southern Nevada. 📍Event #260700103668 | Frenchman Mountain Just after 12 p.m., AIR1 responded to Frenchman Mountain, where two hikers were suffering from heat exhaustion. Crews from Clark County FD Station 20 reached the hikers on foot before both were safely hoisted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to waiting ground personnel. 📍Event #260700104455 | Black Mountain Around 5 p.m., AIR1 responded near Black Mountain after a hiker became lost. Personnel from the Henderson Fire responded by ground using a UTV, while Mercy Air also assisted. A Search and Rescue officer was hoisted into the area to assess the hiker before both were safely extracted by AIR1, flown to a nearby landing zone, and transferred to ground personnel. These rescues are another reminder that Southern Nevada's summer heat can quickly become dangerous. FROM STUNTS TO SCRAP What began as vehicles used for illegal street racing, stunt driving, and felony evasion ended today in a shredder. This morning, we SHREDDED two vehicles that were causing chaos on our roads! Thanks to our Hybrid RAID (Racing Apprehension and Intervention Detail)/VIPER Squad, a specialized team created to identify repeat offenders, build strong criminal cases, and hold dangerous drivers accountable. Since February 2026, the squad has arrested 24 suspects for felony evading and driver disobey peace officer offenses, connected those investigations to 36 incidents where suspects fled from police, and made 47 arrests for reckless and trick driving. Today's vehicles—a 2009 Infiniti G37S and a 2007 Nissan 350Z—weren't seized because of a speeding ticket. They were used in dangerous criminal activity that put lives at risk. One driver participated in a street takeover, drifting within feet of spectators and narrowly avoiding a collision with a semi-truck and a bus. The other repeatedly engaged in illegal stunt driving, fled from law enforcement at excessive speeds, and later changed the vehicle's appearance in an attempt to avoid accountability. Both drivers were arrested. Both vehicles were impounded. And through the legal process, both vehicles were seized and now shredded The message is clear: If you choose to race on our streets, endanger our community, and flee from law enforcement, you could lose more than your freedom, you could lose your vehicle too. From racing to recycling, these cars will never threaten our roadways again.

#UPDATE Sheriff Kevin McMahill, alongside the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Clark County Fire Department, provided a detailed update regarding the complex investigation at a residence on Sugar Springs Drive in northeast Las Vegas near Washington and Hollywood. A little over a week ago, LVMPD received information that laboratory equipment and potentially hazardous materials may have been stored inside the home. As investigators looked deeper, they learned the property owner was connected to a 2023 illegal biological laboratory investigation in Reedley, California. In that California case, investigators reportedly discovered materials possibly associated with infectious diseases including hepatitis, COVID-19, HIV, malaria, and other potentially dangerous pathogens. While it was unknown whether similar materials were present at the Las Vegas residence, the possibility required LVMPD and partner agencies to proceed with extreme caution. Because of those concerns, LVMPD’s Counterterrorism Section and ARMOR Task Force, in partnership with the FBI and regional fire agencies, initiated a joint investigation and extensive operational planning to address the potential risk safely. Early Saturday morning at 5:51 a.m., LVMPD SWAT served the search warrant. Three individuals renting rooms inside the home were safely removed and are not involved in the investigation. Investigators focused on a locked garage believed to contain the materials. To minimize risk, LVMPD deployed drones for aerial awareness and a tactical robot to clear the interior and conduct air sampling before personnel entered. Once safe to proceed, the ARMOR team entered wearing protective equipment. Investigators observed refrigerators, a freezer, laboratory-type equipment, and numerous containers holding unknown liquid substances. Due to the unknown nature of the materials, the operation required multiple controlled entries, strict safety protocols, and extensive decontamination procedures. Evidence collection continued through Sunday and concluded at approximately 6:30 p.m. The materials were transported to a Southern Nevada Health District facility for secure storage and are now being transferred to an FBI laboratory for testing. Remediation of the residence was completed early this morning. Final checks confirmed the location is safe. One suspect connected to the property owner remains in federal custody related to the Reedley investigation. LVMPD also arrested 55-year-old Ori Solomon on a charge of disposing and discharging hazardous waste. This operation involved a coordinated response from numerous local, state, and federal partners. Sheriff McMahill emphasized that modern technology, including drones, robotics, and real-time command monitoring, played a critical role in protecting first responders while allowing the operation to move quickly and safely. We thank the residents of the neighborhood for their patience and cooperation throughout the weekend. Additional confirmed information will be released as it becomes available.

The Vegas Justice League Justin Woo and his wife, Lydia Ansel, co-founded the Vegas Justice League, a nonprofit that brings together local entrepreneurs and business leaders to fund forensic genetic genealogy testing to help solve cold cases. Since partnering with LVMPD in 2020, and working with Othram Inc., the organization has helped solve 10 cold cases, bringing answers and closure to victims’ families. The City of Las Vegas has proclaimed July 21 as Vegas Justice League Day.

What started as a planned weekend event at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway didn’t stay at the track. 🚨 SCAM ALERT 🚨 This morning, around 8:30 a.m., LVMPD responded to a business in the 3100 block of East Sunset Road after a large group of upset people gathered. Victims reported that they had applied for a job opportunity as third-party Amazon delivery drivers, advertised online on January 21. Applicants were asked to fill out an application and pay a $200 fee in cash, credit cards, or checks. They were told to return for an interview at a later date. Today, when several applicants returned, they discovered the business had been completely vacated by the people responsible. It turns out the job posting was a scam. As word spread on social media, more victims arrived at the location.
