I would be so pissed if I wasn’t YORUBA. How many of you noticed what happened before Rasheed Apala collected that microphone from Musiliu Ishola? Lemme Tell you: The person playing the Gángan was advising and warning Rasheed Apala through the drum. Whether na Baba Odebembe or Mustapha, whoever was playing that Gángan, BIG RESPECT TO YOU👏🏾 “Osan gangan ni asa ogbe Oromo adie tolohun ofi tasa se ,Osan gangan lasa o gbe” Rasheed Apala deliberately delayed collecting the microphone, and Musiliu Ishola immediately understood the message and responded: “Ọmọ mi ni” The depth of Yoruba music, the wisdom embedded in our proverbs, the coded conversations and the effortless way our people communicate through music and instruments. YORÙBÁ DÙN! ❤️

Tension has reportedly erupted in Epe-Ekiti, Ekiti State, as residents allegedly chased the Elepe of Epe-Ekiti, Oba Ayodeji Williams Adesoye, out of his palace and seized the monarch’s official car. The crisis reportedly stems from a land dispute that escalated following allegations that the monarch invoked Afọṣẹ, a traditional spiritual utterance believed by some to carry powerful consequences. Residents protesting the monarch’s alleged actions are demanding his removal, describing the situation as an affront to their cultural values and traditional institutions. The community reportedly insists that the protest will continue until its demands are addressed. The Ekiti State Government and relevant traditional authorities are being urged to intervene and resolve the crisis. If this can happen in Epe-Ekiti, it can happen in Iwo. The people of Iwo should learn from this and understand that protecting our culture, heritage and traditional institutions requires accountability and the courage to speak up when things go wrong.

Isese has no place in Ilorin and the entire Emirates. It's not our way of life. It's not our culture. We will not bow to Yorubas and haters of Islam.Ilorin is known as a very peaceful environment that accommodate all but not isese. Ilu Alimi Ilu esin Ilu Qur'an. Habeeb Lagbaji

The Ondo king who married an ‘Orisha’ as Queen and what happened next… Queen Oronsen, wife of Olowo Rerengejen, the 8th Olowo of Owo is an ‘orisha’ (one of the gods in Yoruba mythology). She is reported to have ordered that the Igogo Festival should be held in her honour. The Igogo festival is an annual Yoruba festival celebrated every year in September in Owo, Nigeria. During this time, the incumbent Olowo of Owo and chiefs dress like women, with coral beads, beaded gowns and plaited hair. According to tradition, 600 years ago, King Rerengejen, while on a hunting party, met a young maiden named Oronsen. He fell deeply in love with her and took her to his palace and made her one of his wives. On their wedding night, Oronsen told her husband that she was not what he made her out to be; she was an ‘orisha’. Her husband became frightened because it was a taboo to consult the gods, as it was a sure indication that the gods had already passed judgment on a particular situation, which usually meant death for those involved. However, Oronsen reassured her husband that she was not out to harm him. She told him that she would be very happy to stay in the world of the living as one of his wives on condition that he respected three things sacred to her. Rerengejen readily agreed to the conditions and warned his other wives not to do anything that would upset their queen. Thereafter, the king and his divine wife lived happily ever after, with Oronsen showering his palace with riches. One day, while the king was away hunting, Oronsen had a bitter disagreement with the other queens and in the process, they broke all the things sacred to her. Greatly upset, Oronsen left the palace and all the chiefs and guards that set out to find her failed. When the king returned from his hunting party, he was told what had happened and went to look for his wife personally. He found her after four days and four nights and begged her to return with him, but she refused to do so, telling him that she had lost all faith in those around her and asked that a remembrance ceremony be held in her honour so that she would continue to bless Owo. The disappointed king agreed and on his return from the forest, told the chiefs to set up such a ceremony. The Igogo festival has since then been an annual event held in September and on the day of the festival, it is forbidden to wear caps or headgears. Also, beating of drums and firing of guns is prohibited.
