Watching a PBS doc on the American Library and had to pause to rewind this library director's reaction to 50 Shades of Grey being one of the most popular titles for her patrons.

Started watching the original Popeye shorts from the start (1933) and appalled at how racist the second short was, (especially for the time) cause it ends with Popeye punching a Native American chief so hard the chief is transformed into Mahatma Gandhi. What the hell?!

Robert Carlock pointed towards the Homonym game show as his favorite cut-away gag in 30 Rock and yeah it's one of the best.

Marge Simpson has some of the hilariously jarring non sequiturs in sitcom history that truly hints at how disturbed and mentally unwell she is, her love for her family is the only thing keeping her sane by any relative measure.

Adore when John Water's wanted this kind of response from Baltimoreans for a scene in Female Trouble but the locals were not impressed so Waters added a cut to a guy with a glass eye having his glass eye pop out to convey the shock/irritation he wanted the people to show.

The old Popeye cartoons are so visually hilarious cause why am I laughing to the point of almost choking cause Popeye is trying to get hit by a car but every car deliberately misses him, even jumping over him to avoid smashing.

Seen The Lady Eve over five times and this scene is still more erotic than most modern romantic comedies released today.

It does say a lot about our collective anti-intellectualism that a romantic comedy from 1941 starring two of the biggest names in Hollywood has a proposal scene that references William Blake and Shakespeare and people today would consider it pretentious.

Love learning that Brian Blessed, who voiced Clayton in Disney's Tarzan, got a second contract deal just for doing the Tarzan yell cause the actor playing Tarzan couldn't do it and Brian did it for them when he was to fly back home and he performed it perfectly on the spot.

One of my favorite Simpsons jokes. I even say "I will" with the same deadpan inflection Al Gore does.

The fallout with the Muppet History guy reminds me that Chris Fleming was right. It's never the guy you want to be poly who is polyamorous (or tries to be one). It's usually the guy who wears vests to parties.

Steven Spielberg brought up how the low angle shot under the horse carriage in Forty Guns (1957) basically blew his mind cause it opened up so many possibilities to him as a kid on what cinema could do. Samuel Fuller was not letting the cinemascope go to waste.

Rewatching one of my favorite films in theaters has revealed to me that A New Leaf was released way too early, cause the darkly macabre sensibility that pervades the film is more humorous now then it was perceived to be in 1970. Elaine May was ahead of the game her whole career.

Since Fiona Apple is trending again, here she is appreciating one of her idols Sinead O'Connor. Fiona is right; she's the fucking best and a hero.

It blows my mind how much creativity goes into a 20 second gag like Bart being too tall for a toddler ride in The Simpsons and how much chaos ensues, ending with his face getting stuck in the crotch of a Paul Bunyan statue.

Incredibly the plot of Another Thin Man (1939) stops just so we can see uncredited dancers René Rivero Guillén and Ramona Ajón dancing a Cuban Son. It's so mesmerising to watch I don't even mind it messing up the pacing of the film. He moves like he's weightless.

Quiz Show (1994) has, in my opinion, the creepiest performance Martin Scorsese has ever given, and yes even more than the jealous boyfriend in Taxi Driver expressing his plan to kill his cheating girlfriend. This is pure sociopathy. A man who only sees the world as numbers.

Barbara Stanwyck did this so much that she coined a name for those films: The "Get-Out pictures" when she would yell at someone (mostly a man) to "Get out!" Here's a sample of a few of them. One of my favorite parts of watching Stanwyck movies.
