My bill to legalize peeling bananas has passed the house! current law made it functionally impossible to peel a banana at many daycares but seamless to open a bag of chips-my bill creates a separate class for healthy low risk foods like peeled fruit and veggies and ensures day cares aren’t punished for serving them - when laws are centered on listening to people who are most impacted by them (kids, parents and daycare workers-rather than lawyers and big corporations) we get better policy!

A new rule mandating finger-detection technology in table saws could raise costs by hundreds of dollars and result in a government-mandated monopoly. I introduced a bipartisan bill to protect consumer choice and block this mandate until the patents for this tech are made public.

There's no AP credit available for shop classes, so lots of kids have to give up something they're really good at to keep their college applications competitive. I got an amendment included in the LHHSE Appropriations bill to expand options for college credit for technical classes like welding and woodworking, and I'll continue engaging with the Dept. of Education to keep the ball rolling.

Car headlights have gotten absurdly bright – roughly doubling in recent years – and it's dangerous for others on the road. I encouraged the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee to look into setting better maximum brightness standards in their upcoming infrastructure bill.

Southwest Washington has a serious predatory pinniped problem — tens of thousands of massive invasive sea lions are venturing further and further up the Columbia River and its tributaries to gorge on our local salmon. I'm pushing to explore more effective lethal removal options.

In our laws and legislation, a thousand words paint a picture. But sometimes a concept just can't be described w/o an image. After I found out there's no process to add home blueprints for veterans to a bill, my amendment passed committee to work toward including visual info in bills.

There is broad consensus affirming what parents already know — mandatory active school shooter drills are deeply traumatizing for children and have no evidence of decreasing fatalities. We should not use taxpayer dollars to mandate kids’ participation in ineffective strategies from the 1990s. Parents deserve the right to opt their kids out. My amendment affirming that passed the Appropriations Committee on a bipartisan basis last night, and I'll continue working with colleagues on both sides of the aisle to move this legislation forward.

Somebody at the DOJ seems to think a Sharpied out PDF is “unredacted”. I think they’re not complying with the law we passed. Members of Congress are supposed to have access to uncensored files- but reviewing files today, my bipartisan colleagues and I found blacked out pages, obstructive search systems, and continued surveillance of our individual search history. This is anti-American and we’re not going to let it ride. #EpsteinFiles

If there's one thing Democrats & Republicans can agree on, it's that headlights are too damn bright. Brightness doubled in the last decade, yet our standards are from before I was born. My amendment passed to find solutions, since it's not a binary choice between the light of 1,000 suns and driving in the dark.

Thanks for bringing attention to miscarriage Pamela Brown and The Situation Room. These aren’t easy conversations to have, but things won’t get better if we don’t talk–and that’s crazy because 1 in 4 women will have a miscarriage at some point in their life.

WA state regs make it illegal for some daycare teachers to peel a banana - but opening a bag of Cheetos is just fine. Sadly, many states in the country treat serving fruits and vegetables in the same bureaucratic class as making sushi - and the result is more processed food for toddlers. We see eye to eye on this Secretary Brooke Rollins Dept. of Agriculture - help us fix these nonsense food prep regulations and legalize fresh fruit for our toddlers!

In my county, we’re seeing a 30% increase in search and rescue calls—the vast majority involving people from outside the county. Our search and rescue teams are being forced to do more with less. I’m working to change that. My amendment to help make our rural counties whole is now law. And I’ll keep working to bring federal dollars home for rural communities and law enforcement.
