Leaving Vietnam as a refugee 51 years ago and returning today as the Acting Secretary of the Navy is a powerful, full-circle reminder of what is possible when blessed with freedom and opportunity. Our productive visit strengthened US-Vietnam relations and our naval partnership. Progress often starts simply: two Sailors sitting down, sharing a common bond, and working together to achieve mutual goals. What we accomplished extends beyond the pier—strengthening the trust to keep sea lanes open, defend freedom of navigation, and preserve peace through strength across the Pacific. Thanks President Donald J. Trump, Secretary Marco Rubio, and Secretary of War Pete Hegseth for your leadership and commitment to ensuring our U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines have what they need to maintain maritime dominance.

You may not see my scars, but they are there. I know trauma. I know pain. I also know that seeking help is a sign of strength. I did, and you can too. This Mental Health Awareness Month, I remain committed to breaking down barriers to care for our Sailors and Marines. You are always worth fighting for.

We are a maritime nation, bordering on both the Atlantic and the Pacific. Our commerce depends on safe and secure sea lanes of communication. President Trump’s commission to our military is simple: to achieve Peace Through Strength. The USS Idaho joins the fleet ready to answer the call to action, in any ocean, at any time.

Today's graduation in Annapolis was the proud convergence of two of my greatest honors: leading the Department of the Navy and being a father. To the parents and families: thank you for raising these remarkable young men and women, and for planting the seed of service. To my son—one of our Nation’s newest Second Lieutenants in the Marine Corps—and the entire U.S. Naval Academy Class of 2026: We could not be more proud. Semper Fi and Hooyah!

Autonomous warfare is changing how we fight. Thank you, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, for continuing to give the Joint Force greater focus on the autonomous mission. We're proud to see one of the Navy's own, Navy SEAL Senior Chief Max Strasiser, selected to help lead DRPM-UxS alongside Owen West. Building on that momentum, the U.S. Navy and U.S. Marines are accelerating autonomous capability through DRPM RAS and RASWDC. Together, we’re scaling what works and turning autonomous systems into combat power at this inflection point in naval warfare.

A father’s legacy is not what he leaves behind - it’s what he builds in his children. This Father’s Day, thank you to the fathers across our Navy and Marine Corps family for the sacrifices you make, the example you set, and the legacy you build every day.

Fractured authority and bureaucratic hurdles delay critical capabilities. No more. The Navy’s Portfolio Acquisition Executive model establishes a single accountable boss to slash red tape. Our systems and processes must match the efficiency and intensity of our Sailors and Marines—delivering what they need to fight and win.
