Its been a quiet week for myself on social media. But 7 weeks into my new Job at Dublin Airport and I’m definitely settling in! It’s been a great journey entering the airport environment. So many interesting stories and encounters, as well as the typical complaining passengers and problem solving. This week alone our team dealt with multiple oversold flights, IT outages, delays and cancellations and a few other setbacks. But we still managed to pull through and win Station of the Month, a nice achievement towards the end of a busy summer season. Here’s to more🫡 #aviation #avgeek #DublinAirport #Travel

Normally I’m the one identifying flights, but this one has me baffled… I’ve received a few DM’s this evening regarding a bright light moving around areas between Longford and Meath. The videos depict a bright white light moving around Irish skies - putting together information sent onto me it tracked westerly from the north Dublin/meath area. There are no identifying signs that this is a plane (beacons, navigation lights etc.) ADS-B archives show no flights in the area, a flight in the meath area would be Controlled therefore an ADS-B transponder would be on. A touch of class ❤️🕊️ This afternoon, a Magma Aviation B747-4 did a low fly-by over Omagh to commemorate the death of their ex-CEO, Conor Brannigan, who sadly passed away after battling illness. The aircraft, which was on a flight from Liege to South Carolina descended towards Omagh and did multiple low passes at about 4500ft as the funeral was taking place, before climbing and continuing onwards. A man has been arrested following an Incident in Terminal 1 at Dublin Airport this morning. Multiple videos and photos sourced online show the moments when a man started damaging Gate 107 on Pier 1 in a fit of rage after reportedly missing his flight. The incident took place today at approximately 07:20 when a man reportedly missed his flight. Following a few minutes of disruption, Airport police arrived and arrested the man. Seen this RTÉ archive on TikTok this evening and couldn’t go without sharing it!! In 1987, Aer Lingus operated a special flight for the children of Ballymun as part of International Children’s Day. They hosted 400 primary school kids and took them up on a Boeing B747 for a spin over Ballymun and the east coast. The flight was called the ‘Ballymun Special’ under the Flight number EI2992. The great thing was that Aer Lingus, Aer Rianta and Cie didn’t charge a thing for this experience! So i’ve come home from work with a just a *few* people questioning the accuracy of information, let me clarify!! Under IATA’s dangerous goods regulations, Personal Electronic Devices (PED’s) are safe to go in checked luggage if switched off entirely and packed safely (given the airline approves its carriage). But IATA passenger guidance has recently reflected previous incidents involving batteries onboard flights, new guidance asks passengers to remove any electronics from checked bags. To enforce IATA safety guidance, us checkin agents will ask for all electronics removed, not to make your life harder but to maintain the safety of your aircraft. This is that in the unlikely event of a lithium battery faulting, cabin crew can act and prevent further damage. A lithium battery fire in the hold would be catastrophic to the aircraft. There has been a lot of talk about the NOAA Lockheed WP-3D Orion aircraft in Shannon this week. The aircraft, N42RF aka “Kermit” is in Shannon for the next while as they monitor Storm Éowyn which hits Ireland on Friday morning! Q: What do scientists onboard do?🤔 Scientists aboard the aircraft deploy GPS dropwindsondes as NOAA pilot and navigate the P-3 through the hurricane/storm. These instruments continuously transmit measurements of pressure, humidity, temperature, and wind direction and speed as they fall toward the sea, providing a detailed look at the structure of the storm and its intensity. The P-3s' tail Doppler radar and lower fuselage radar systems, meanwhile, scan the storm vertically and horizontally, giving scientists and forecasters a real-time look at the storm. The P-3s can also deploy probes called bathythermographs that measure the temperature of the sea.
