According to officials, the drone hit the plane at about 3000 feet as it was coming in for a landing from San Francisco. "United Flight 1980 reported a possible drone strike just prior to arriving in San Diego," United Airlines said. "The flight landed safely, and customers deplaned normally at the gate. Our maintenance team found no damage after thoroughly inspecting the aircraft." According to the pilot, the drone was small, red, and shiny. Seen this RTÉ archive on TikTok this evening and couldn’t go without sharing it!! In 1987, Aer Lingus operated a special flight for the children of Ballymun as part of International Children’s Day. They hosted 400 primary school kids and took them up on a Boeing B747 for a spin over Ballymun and the east coast. The flight was called the ‘Ballymun Special’ under the Flight number EI2992. The great thing was that Aer Lingus, Aer Rianta and Cie didn’t charge a thing for this experience! A Bell 407 flying passengers for Blade out of JFK this evening reported a RC airplane at 500 feet. There is a RC airplane club located at Floyd Bennett Field just to the south west of Kennedy. This was not a drone and RC pilots are typically good at not flying above 400 feet AGL. Also, the NYPD helicopter unit is based there. Audio via ATC

The drone is believed to be Russian, and is believed to contain an explosive payload. Romanian authorities have isolated the area and deployed police officers and an SRI explosives team to examine the damaged aircraft. The location is significant: Viișoara lies between Bârlad and Vaslui, roughly 70 km west of the border with Moldova and well inland from Romania’s usual drone-incident areas along the Danube, close to the Ukrainian border. This places the reported discovery considerably farther inside Romanian territory than the areas where drone debris has more commonly been found following Russian attacks on Ukraine. Authorities are investigating the type of drone and the circumstances in which it reached the area. It remains unclear whether the aircraft was part of Russia’s overnight attack on Ukraine or was a stray drone that was not detected by Romanian military radar. Last year we saw Jim Gavin fly a drone in a red zone ⛔️ now we see a pilot operating over the crown on Achil island yesterday as Sam was brought across the bridge from the mainland. The drone hovers over the heads of hundreds of people including the cup itself and the Gardai. The IAA define a crowd as 13 people who have to be able to move, to avoid the drone if it falls. Does the drone pilot have an operator i.d ? Did he ask the consent of the crowd ? Does he have insurance ? Did he keep that drone in visual line of sight at all times ? Seems its one rule for them and one rule for us again. Up Mayo.
