Ottawa is very proud to be the hometown of Shane Hollander from the international hit TV show Heated Rivalry. Today I had a chance to meet Jacob Tierney, the creator of the show, Brendan Brady, the producer, and representatives of Bell Media. We're looking forward to Ottawa playing a starring role in Season 2. In honour of the show's success, and our special connection to the story, I proclaimed today as Shane Hollander Day in Ottawa. Ottawa est très fière d’être la ville natale de Shane Hollander, le personnage emblématique de la série télévisée à succès international Heated Rivalry. Aujourd’hui, j’ai eu le plaisir de rencontrer Jacob Tierney, le créateur de la série, Brendan Brady, le producteur, ainsi que des représentants de Bell Média. Nous avons hâte de voir Ottawa jouer un rôle principal dans la saison 2. New data shows that very few cyclists and pedestrians are using Queen Elizabeth Driveway when it's closed to cars. Watch this video as a great example. When I recorded it yesterday afternoon, not a single pedestrian or cyclist passed me for the entire two and a half minutes. We’ve listened to the community. We’ve significantly reduced the density of Lansdowne, removed one tower, reduced height, improved the public space, and more. We now have a much better plan. I want to make sure that rural residents feel included in the decisions we make as a city. You should not feel like people in downtown Ottawa are deciding how you should operate your farms or live your lives or that your unique needs are being overlooked. For too long, building a home in Ottawa has been too expensive and bogged down by too much process and red tape. We're finally changing that, and saying YES to housing. Today, city council approved a plan to cut development charges by 54%, reducing the cost of a typical new home in the suburbs by $34,000. In return, we're receiving almost $700 million in funding from the federal and provincial governments to pay for critical infrastructure, including widening Brian Coburn Boulevard and Carp Road, and realigning Greenbank. Let's keep making it easier and cheaper to build homes, and let's keep fighting for more infrastructure money from other levels of government.
