A B-29 Superfortress moving under its own power isn't something you see every day, just ask our friends at Dulles Air Traffic Control. Doc, one of only two airworthy B-29s, flew in this afternoon for tomorrow's Innovations in Flight event at our Udvar-Hazy Center.

With an 80-foot wingspan, installing the Lockheed U-2C above the Museum’s walkway was no easy task. The iconic spy plane will return on display at the Museum on the National Mall this summer:

This week in 1942, the prototype XB-29 flew for the first time. 83 years later, there are only two airworthy B-29s remaining. Earlier this year we had the chance to take a flight in the B-29 Superfortress “Doc.”
