Introducing Aval - a new open source format for interactive video on the web. It has a built-in state machine, frame accurate transitions, and packed alpha transparency. This is probably the craziest thing I’ve ever built with Codex. I’d been dreaming about this technology for years. Before AI, building it would have taken months of work. I could never justify that investment for a noncommercial open source project. Then, a little over a year ago, Airbnb created Lava for almost exactly the same purpose. That gave me hope. But Lava was never released as open source. So I decided to build my own, with AI. Aval comes with a compiler and a web renderer. Together, they give you: • a deterministic state graph - named states, authored triggers, and routing where the latest trigger wins. • frame accurate routes with transitions that begin on authored content frames using portals, finishes, cuts, and reversals. • small file size and low CPU overhead, perfect for small icons designed and animated in Blender. • seekless loops so the decoder timeline keeps moving forward across loop seams instead of seeking. • packed alpha transparency. transparent prerendered motion composited with WebGL2. • a web native runtime: decoding with WebCodecs and rendering with WebGL2. • progressive fallback: Host-owned fallback markup remains available for unsupported and reduced motion contexts. Now it exists, it’s open source, and it’s available today as a technical preview. I’ll be polishing it further over the next few days.

No Three.js. No fake web-based depth-of-field or focal-length emulation. Customize in web, render in Blender. While everyone is vibe-coding apps for flat pattern generators, or at most Three.js-based 3D scenes, we’re already one step ahead. We built an app that lets you use a web UI to control an actual Blender 3D render. Eevee engine is used for streaming quick previews back into the app, while Cycles renders the final image for better material quality and lighting. So simple to use that you can even give it to your client. Of course, built with Toolcraft.

Our toolkit for building creative micro apps is going to be a banger. So many little details that just make life easier: - double click on a slider to reset the value to the default state - draggable panels + snap to the edges - layered components with a nested or flat look - canvas zoom/pan/recenter that just works super smoothly - image drag and drop and export. Everything comes with a template, a UI component library, and AGENT.md. Always happy to see design projects we’ve been working on go live. Enjoy the new brand look for Polar Signals Over the last few months, we worked on the company’s brand refresh, designed and developed the new website, built multiple apps to speed up brand graphic creation, produced a product explainer reel for the hero section, and created an extensive branding system so every asset feels consistent while still being unique to the brand. Polar Signals wanted to preserve parts of their existing visual identity, especially the original colors and gradients. We used that as a starting point, then refined the color system, created new gradient combinations, and modernized the overall look while keeping a clear connection to the brand’s legacy. We also came up with the new typography and grid system, and blended different visual styles so the brand could support a technical, information-heavy product while still feeling polished, clear, and professional. Proud of how the system came together. Stay tuned for some behind-the-scenes materials from the project.
