I was honored to attend the 15th International Students Graduation Ceremony organized by YTB, an institution that has given hope and opportunities to thousands of Somali students, including myself, through its scholarship programs over the years. Receiving the Türkiye Alumni Award, which is presented to a limited number of graduates each year, was a truly special moment for me. I am grateful that my efforts to strengthen the relationship between Somalia and Türkiye have been recognized in such a meaningful way. When I first arrived in Türkiye in 2009, I could not have imagined the journey ahead. What I knew then, and what I still believe today, is that building a stronger Somalia and a stronger Somali–Turkish partnership requires dedication, patience, and continuous effort. This award is a reminder of that journey and of the many people who have contributed to it along the way. My sincere thanks to the Vice President of the Republic of Türkiye, Mr. Cevdet Yılmaz, the Minister of Culture and Tourism, Mr. Mehmet Nuri Ersoy, and YTB President Abdulhadi Turus for their presence and for making this memorable event possible. I remain proud to be part of the Türkiye Alumni family and look forward to continuing to contribute to the strong and growing friendship between Somalia and Türkiye. 🇸🇴🇹🇷

Today, the Federal Government of Somalia deposited the instruments of accession to fifteen international maritime conventions with the International Maritime Organization (IMO), setting a new record as the largest single deposit of instruments of accession in the Organization’s history. This historic milestone reflects Somalia’s unwavering commitment to strengthening its maritime sector and aligning with the highest international standards of maritime safety, security, environmental protection, and governance. The conventions deposited include the Convention on the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREG), 1972, Convention on Facilitation of International Maritime Traffic (FAL), 1965, International Convention on Maritime Search and Rescue (SAR), 1979, Protocol of 2005 to the Convention for the Suppression of Unlawful Acts Against the Safety of Maritime Navigation (SUA), 2005, International Convention on Tonnage Measurement of Ships (TONNAGE), 1969, International Convention on Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), 1978, Nairobi International Convention on the Removal of Wrecks, 2007, International Oil Pollution Compensation Fund Protocol, 1992, Civil Liability Convention Protocol (CLC), 1992, MARPOL Protocol, 1997, International Convention on Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation (OPRC), 1990, SOLAS Protocol, 1978, and SOLAS Protocol, 1988>, among others. This landmark achievement demonstrates Somalia’s determination to modernize its maritime legal framework, enhance the safety and security of navigation, protect the marine environment, and fully implement internationally recognized maritime standards and obligations. As a nation with one of Africa’s longest coastlines and a strategic position along some of the world’s most important maritime trade routes, Somalia recognizes that a safe, secure, and well-governed maritime domain is essential to its national development and regional stability. Through these accessions, Somalia is laying the foundation for a modern, resilient, and internationally integrated maritime sector that will promote sustainable economic growth, facilitate international trade and investment, strengthen the blue economy, and deepen cooperation with regional and global maritime partners. This milestone marks another significant step in the Government’s broader efforts to restore Somalia’s leadership and credibility within the international maritime community.

Today, the Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport of the Federal Government of Somalia signed a cooperation agreement with Türkiye’s Piri Reis University, a renowned institution specializing in maritime education and research. This partnership will expand access to higher education and professional training for Ministry staff and personnel across Somalia’s ports, while also strengthening collaboration with the Somali Maritime Institute. In addition, we signed a cooperation agreement with DEHUKAM, the Center for Maritime Law, which will provide legal expertise and advisory support to help advance Somalia’s maritime governance and legal framework.

Today at the Port of Mogadishu, we proudly welcomed the inaugural Akkon Lines vessel, marking a new chapter in maritime connectivity between Somalia and Türkiye and a major step toward connecting Somalia more efficiently to regional and global markets. By significantly reducing container transit times, this new service will accelerate trade, strengthen supply chains, and create new opportunities for businesses in both countries. Enhanced connectivity is the foundation of trade, investment, and economic growth, and today’s milestone reflects our shared commitment to making Somalia a leading maritime gateway in the region. We thank the Government of Türkiye, Akkon Lines, and all stakeholders whose efforts and commitment have made this important achievement possible. As the Ministry of Ports and Marine Transport, we will continue to support initiatives that strengthen connectivity, facilitate trade, and deepen the economic partnership between Somalia and Türkiye.

Our beautiful country, Somalia, holds a geopolitical position that is exceptionally rare in the world. Today, we once again bear witness to the true value of this position through the space project we are undertaking in cooperation with our Turkish brothers. This project is being constructed in Somalia for clear and fundamental reasons. Our land is situated close to the equator, where the Earth’s rotational speed is at its peak, enabling access to space with significantly greater efficiency and reduced cost. At the same time, Somalia opens eastward onto vast open seas, providing a clear, secure, and unobstructed launch corridor, far removed from dense populations and congested airspace. The convergence of these advantages exists in only a handful of places on Earth. It exists in Somalia. For this reason, this space project is not a matter of coincidence. It is the natural consequence of Somalia’s geography, strategic foresight, and enduring geopolitical significance.

Waxaan aad ula yaabey 2026 in siyaasi Soomaaliyeed weli ku fekeraayo in dhalinyarada Soomaaliyeed uu buundo kursi ku raadsado ka dhigto. Doorasho dadban hadii dhalinyaro wax loogu qabanaayo 20kii sano ee la soo dhaafey maxaa wax loogu qaban waayey, markii la ogaadey in doorasho toos ah ay fursad ku leeyihiin dhalinyarada ayaa la rabaa in been loo sheego. Diidey buundo iney noqdaan dhalinteena.
