Today, Russia struck another American business in Ukraine—a civilian production facility of Mondelez in Trostianets—one of the first major U.S. investments in Ukraine’s independent economy. I updated our partners on the battlefield situation, peace efforts, and the fight against corruption. Modern Ukrainian diplomacy dates back to the early 20th century, when on this day in 1917 the General Secretariat of International Affairs of the Ukrainian People’s Republic was established. Today, on Ukraine's Diplomatic Service Day, we honor the contributions of all generations of Ukrainian diplomats in building and strengthening our state and diplomatic service. It is my greatest honor and responsibility to lead the MFA of Ukraine 🇺🇦 in the face of Russia’s full-scale war, working together with the entire Ukrainian diplomatic team to strengthen our brave defenders on the frontline, consolidate international support, secure weapons and essential aid, increase pressure on the aggressor, and bolster our national resilience. Together with Sports Minister MatviiBidnyi we made a statement regarding the football presentation to the FIFA President by young Kyiv footballers. A football can carry hope. Today, FIFA President Gianni Infantino received just such a ball from the students of the "Lokomotiv" Kyiv Football Academy. The ball was delivered to the FIFA President by European Commissioner Glenn Micallef. He emphasized: "These children want to play, live, and dream without fear." For Ukrainian children, football represents the hope for a safe childhood and a normal life. The children of "Lokomotiv" shared what it is like to live under constant shelling. They recalled how, on January 23, a missile destroyed their sports complex. Since then, they have been unable to train at their home base. In their message to Gianni Infantino, the children said: "Fair play means respect for opponents, the rules, and all participants. Russia does not respect these rules. We ask you to support the children of Ukraine who want to play football and live without fear." We stand by the children's appeal. Every day, Russia strikes Ukrainian cities and communities. Russia kills children and destroys sports facilities. Russia demolishes power plants and energy infrastructure. We also reiterate Ukraine’s position: Russia uses sports to justify its aggression. This is exactly why its return to football is unacceptable. We share the principle that fair play cannot exist without accountability. It was moving to see the Ukrainian flag proudly waving on the building. The opening is symbolic of Ukraine’s unbreakable resilience: suspended in 2014 amid Russia’s aggression — and restored in 2025 as a testament to our steadfastness and a strengthened diplomatic presence in Slovakia. The new Consulate will protect our citizens, support trade and investment for Ukraine’s recovery, and deepen cultural and cross-border cooperation.
