In 1944 Waldemar Julsrud, a German retiring in Mexico in the vicinity of Acambaro accidentally discovered some ceramic figurines in the sand. He then acquired help from locals and soon over 34,000 artifacts were excavated from the side of Bull Mountain. The relics were of ceramics, stone and jade, including obsidian knives sharper than steel. Figurines of blacks, orientals and bearded white people. The styles are vaguely similar to ancient Egyptian and Sumerian. Figurines of bigfoot type creatures and giant reptiles, many eating people. Also, depictions of sexual activities between animals and humans. The ceramic nature of the artifacts is a reason the establishment claims Acambaro finds were fake. But this would have required a tremendous amount of time and wood to fire the ceramics, especially over 30,000 objects. There are no trees to burn in the Mexican desert region. Further, many of the relics are carved stone, not ceramics. Accusations of fraud by the establishment scientists happened because these artifacts had been excavated with the teeth from an extinct Ice Age horse and the skeleton of a mammoth. So here was a culture of humans that domesticated large reptiles, venerated them and lived among huge amphibians and hairy megafauna. Among the Acambaro figurines there is a child playing with a baby apatosaurus, warriors fighting off a tyrannosaurus and even what looks like a plesiosaur being fished from a lake. These are detailed, with some dinosaurs showing feathers or scales. Adding to the controversy is that of a figurine of a styxosaurus, a marine creature not even discovered until the 1950s.
