Propaganda can shape perceptions—but it cannot rewrite history. For years, a relentless political campaign has sought to portray the Gandhi family as the embodiment of corruption and anti-nationalism. Repetition of allegations, however, is not the same as proof. In this clip, Priyanka Gandhi does not respond with personal attacks. She asks a simple democratic question: Where is the evidence? She urges Parliament to debate unemployment, inflation, paper leaks, and the everyday struggles of ordinary Indians instead of recycling political propaganda. Every political family in India has faced criticism, and the Emergency imposed by Indira Gandhi remains a serious and legitimate subject of historical debate. But beyond that chapter, the contributions of the Nehru-Gandhi family to India's freedom movement and nation-building are substantial and well documented. Jawaharlal Nehru spent years in British prisons during the freedom struggle, and under his leadership institutions such as the IITs, AIIMS, DRDO, and major public sector enterprises were established—institutions that continue to serve the nation today. Democracy demands that citizens distinguish between verified facts and sustained political messaging. Patriotism is not determined by slogans or propaganda; it is measured by sacrifice, public service, and commitment to the Republic. Our Constitution transformed that shared inheritance into a promise of equal citizenship, where rights come from being Indian, not from religion, caste or identity. The pain expressed in this video reflects a deeper anxiety: when politics is built on division, fear and suspicion, it weakens the very foundation of the Republic. Democracies flourish when citizens are united by constitutional values, not separated into competing camps for electoral gain. India's future cannot be secured through hatred. When a citizen is forced to repeatedly prove that they are a citizen, democracy itself begins to stand trial. Former Election Commissioner Ashok Lavasa raises a constitutional question that deserves every Indian's attention. If Aadhaar is not conclusive proof of citizenship, PAN is not, Voter ID is not, and the Ministry of External Affairs says even a passport is only a travel document and not conclusive proof of citizenship, then what certainty does an ordinary citizen have? In a democracy, the citizen is sovereign and the State exists to serve the citizen—not to keep every citizen under perpetual suspicion. Burdening millions of law-abiding people with repeatedly proving their identity and citizenship undermines trust in democratic institutions and risks excluding genuine citizens from exercising their constitutional rights. Lavasa argues that determining citizenship is not the Election Commission's role and cautions against shifting this burden onto citizens. A constitutional democracy is strengthened by inclusion, transparency and due process, not by creating uncertainty over the status of those who have lived, voted, paid taxes and contributed to the nation for decades.
