Anything can change in an instant.➡️ Yesterday’s hail storm and flash flooding created some dangerous conditions across our city. For one woman, a routine drive to work quickly turned into an emergency when she unknowingly drove into floodwaters near 6th and Sable. Thankfully we were nearby, ready to help. Officers safely rescued the driver, ensured she was unharmed, and even gave her a ride home. Moments like these are a reminder that floodwaters can be unpredictable and dangerous. If you encounter water covering a roadway, turn around and find an alternate route. Aurora, we're here for you when the unexpected happens. Keeping our community safe is and always will be our top priority. [Media Description: Officers walking through flash flood waters to carry woman out of her flooded vehicle.]

This is why we pursue➡️🚨 Just before 8 a.m. on Saturday, District 2 officers, while on proactive patrol, spotted a Nissan Maxima near East Alameda Avenue and South Sable Boulevard. The car had no license plate, and the driver was wearing a ski mask. Both, immediate red flags. Officers attempted to stop the car…but of course the driver didn’t stop. That’s when the pursuit began.🚔 Within a matter of minutes, the vehicle lost control and crashed into a cluster of small trees near East Alameda Avenue and South Havana Street. The driver, 33-year-old Sean Wroblewski, revved the engine trying to flee again even though there was no way out. Officers gave commands to exit the vehicle. Wroblewski, out of options, eventually complied and was taken into custody. He was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. Accountability hurts sometimes. When officers searched the vehicle, it was a frenzy of stolen and illegal items. Buckle up because it’s an impressive list. ◾A handgun with a defaced serial number. ◾21 grams of methamphetamine. ◾Birth Certificates that were definitely not Wroblewski’s. ◾More than 35 suspected stolen credit cards. ◾About 50 fraudulent checks. ◾A large amount of stolen mail. This is why we pursue. This is why proactive policing matters. Because law abiding citizens don’t run from police. Because our community deserves better. Because we aren’t letting up in 2026. #CommunityCommitment #APDInAction #SaferAurora

Remember that short pursuit on Monday with a stolen vehicle that crashed into a pole at Alameda and Peoria?🚔 ➡️This city camera video we’re releasing today shows this wasn’t just a risky split-second decision, the danger started long before the engine even revved. The passenger was 41-year-old Sheena Fuentes, who you might remember was arrested in October for accessory to murder related to an October 24th homicide on Del Mar Circle. She was out on bond for that charge at the time of the pursuit and crash. And the driver? That was 52-year-old Manuel Tovar, a man with an extensive criminal history. The pair were in a confirmed stolen car and took off at high speed, tried to make a fast left onto Alameda, and lost control. The car hit a pole and both died on scene. The vast majority of those who decide to elude our officers, and we pursue, have a criminal history. Only 16% of our pursuits end in crashes. This is yet another reminder: People who run from police don’t just break the law, they gamble with lives, including their own. Our crime stats are not just numbers. Behind every number is a real person whose life has been changed by crime. We are here to keep our Aurora community safe. If someone chooses to break the law and flee in a stolen vehicle, we will pursue them, and we will hold them accountable. #APDInAction [Media Description: Video showing pursuit and crash with suspects former booking photos.]

Y'all, we need to talk about e-bikes, dirt bikes and off-road vehicles. A group of our PAR officers were working proactive patrol a few weeks back when they were alerted to a group of people on off-road dirt bikes, e-bikes and four wheelers traveling on East Colfax. Our officers found the riders and observed them doing wheelies, weaving in and out of traffic and quite literally ignoring any and all traffic laws. The group continued down Colfax, but officers lost sight of them due to their erratic driving. Our Real Time Information Center used city cameras to help track the riders. They were seen continuing to drive recklessly. The group eventually pulled into a gas station; unaware we were hot on their trail. When officers pulled in with their lights activated, the group ran. Five got away. One did not. 30-year-old Noel Loya Payan was arrested at the gas station without further incident. He is facing charges including careless driving, obstruction, prohibited use of an off-highway vehicle on a public roadway, weaving and failure to obey traffic signals. He also had a warrant out of Northglenn. This time it was adults treating our streets like their personal playground. But more often than not, it is juveniles. Teenagers riding vehicles they should not be operating and doing so recklessly on busy roads. It’s not just a nuisance to other drivers, it’s also illegal. Aurora city code already prohibits off highway vehicles like dirt bikes from being used on any public roads, trails, sidewalks or parks within city limits. Parents or guardians who knowingly allow minors to ride them in the city can face a minimum $250 fine. Whether you're 15 or 30, our streets are not a racetrack. Ride responsibly. Can't stop, won't stop. On Thursday, during the height of rush hour, a vehicle theft suspect decided it was a good idea to try and run from the police. He sped through heavy, busy intersections attempting to avoid us and get away. When his car finally came to a stop, he booked it out of the vehicle. But APD? Can't stop, won't stop. Our officers were right on his heals and nabbed him in less than 25 seconds. Cory Thompson, 36, was subsequently arrested on charges of motor vehicle theft, felony eluding, criminal possession of a financial transaction device, possession of dangerous drugs and driving without a license. Shockingly, this wasn’t the first time Thompson had a run-in with APD. Dating to Christmas Day 2022, we’ve arrested Thompson SEVEN times. All seven of those arrests involved stolen vehicles that were either taken from members of our community or our neighbors in the Denver metro. Heck of a run, but not fast enough. Safety first, safety always. That's the Aurora way. [Media description: Officers apprehend a motor vehicle theft suspect after a vehicle and foot chase.]

🚨Aurora Police Fully Launch Real Time Information Center🚨 We’ve officially activated every piece of our Real Time Information Center (RTIC) and with this week’s launch of our Drones as First Responders program, the system is now fully live and working around the clock for Aurora. You’ve probably seen our posts, sharing how The RTIC has helped us track down criminals and solve crimes. The RTIC brings all our technology into one place: city cameras, Flock license plate readers, Drones as First Responders and the Axon FUSUS platform so our team can give officers real-time support the moment a call comes in.👏 The RTIC boosts both community and officer safety by using video technology to gather information and share that with officers on the ground as events unfold. Since going live in March, RTIC staff have helped officers➡️ • stay safer on dangerous calls • locate suspects faster • recover stolen vehicles • find missing children • gather real-time evidence to speed up investigations ‼️And the results speak for themselves‼️ • Arrests are up 48.7% compared to the same period last year. • Part 1 crime is down 24%, meaning 3,328 fewer victims in our community. “Adding the Flock Drones as First Responders program is the final piece bringing all the capabilities of our Real Time Information Center to fruition. This addition expands our real-time capabilities ensuring every response is as safe and effective as possible.” said Deputy Chief Phil Rathbun. The bottom line: The RTIC is helping us solve more crimes, reduce victimization and strengthen community and officer safety across Aurora. #APDInAction #CommunityCommitment [Media Description: Video sharing details and a showcase of APD's new Real Time Information Center.]

Heck of a way to start a Tuesday. 🚨 While you were sleeping, patrol officers in two districts were dispatched to a home in the 2400 block of South Memphis Way for a report of an in-progress burglary. While en route, our officers learned that a suspect had previously kicked in the door to the occupied residence earlier in the night, and had now returned, trying to reenter the home, but couldn't... Maybe he started to panic when he heard our sirens approaching quickly. 🚔 What's worse is he was possibly armed with a shotgun. We got a vehicle description and attempted a traffic stop on the car, which was parked right outside the home. But that driver instead decided to flee. ➡️ After a short pursuit, our officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the car near the intersection of E. 6th Ave. and Nucla Way. Two people ran from the vehicle and one immediately surrendered at the vehicle. The driver, who was also the main suspect of the burglary, was caught after a foot chase that tested everyone’s cardio. The passenger who ran was also captured, but his route was considerably shorter. Yup, we got all three. 💪 The driver, identified as 33-year-old Anthony Mestas-Herrera, was wearing rifle plates and dropped both a shotgun and handgun when he ran from the car following the PIT. He was subsequently arrested for 2nd degree burglary, kidnapping, vehicular eluding and obstruction. He also has a lengthy criminal history to include 1st degree homicide, 2nd degree assault on a peace officer, drug distribution, multiple motor vehicle theft charges, and more. A safer Aurora, no matter what time of day or night. That's why we do this. [Media Description: Video of pursuit and arrest of suspect after brief foot chase.]

A week-old baby, not breathing. Any parent’s worst nightmare came true for a new Aurora mom last week. She was already on the way to the hospital and happened to see one of our officers stopped at a red light at Colfax and Sable. She quickly ran up to his car pleading for help. It’s second nature for our officers to do just that. Help. He began life-saving measures on the infant, performing CPR for nearly five minutes until Aurora Fire Rescue arrived to escort the baby to the hospital. Let that sink in. Nearly five minutes of CPR. Throughout it all, he remained calm, communicating with the child’s mom in both English and Spanish and assisting as an interpreter once medics took over. Because of his quick response and composure under pressure, that baby is alive today. This is what it means to serve. Knowing what to do in those critical moments can make all the difference. We encourage parents and caregivers to learn infant CPR. Do you know the steps for infant CPR? For a choking infant under 1 year, deliver 5 firm back blows between the shoulder blades using the heel of your hand while supporting them face-down on your forearm, head lower than chest. If the object does not dislodge, follow with 5 chest thrusts. Repeat this cycle until the object is expelled and the baby shows obvious signs of life, or continue until help arrives. Always here, Aurora. And, always willing to help.❤️

When you threaten and rob a hard-working community member, Aurora PD will arrest you. Period. On Sunday, April 26 just after 3:20 a.m., Aurora911 received a call for help from an employee at a business on the 14000 block of East Colfax Avenue. The employee stated there were two male suspects inside the store trying to steal items. The employee stated that one of them had come up to her and threatened to shoot her if she kept speaking to the police. Absolutely not. Officers arrived on scene and, thanks to a detailed description of the suspect vehicle by the employee that had just been threatened and robbed, we began to follow a sedan trying to leave the area. A pursuit was initiated and eventually was successfully and safely terminated in an empty parking lot along East Mississippi Avenue using a PIT maneuver. Three suspects attempted to flee, but were ultimately detained by responding officers. All three are teenagers, and all are Aurora residents. A lost gun out of Arapahoe County was discovered in the possession of one of the juveniles. Each was subsequently arrested on suspicion of their connection to the crime, and potential charges include aggravated robbery, vehicular eluding, obstruction and possession of a handgun by a juvenile. We can’t stress this enough – getting your kicks by committing crimes isn’t worth it. And also, these three were out way past their bedtime. We *want* you to succeed in life – this just isn’t the way to do it.

Not your typical Jeep wave ✌️ Last week, two of our graveyard officers were on routine patrol in northeast Aurora near East Jewell Avenue and Harvest Road when they spotted a Jeep sporting temporary tags that actually belonged to a Ford. "It's a bold strategy, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off for 'em."👀 Behind the wheel was a very recognizable face one officer had encountered before. Kayla. (watch the video, you'll see what we mean) Kayla gave officers a friendly little wave 👋 as they drove by, likely hoping they had not noticed the fictitious temporary tags. Unfortunately for her, recognition works both ways. Familiar with Kayla and her history involving drugs and weapons, officers attempted a traffic stop. That is when she decided to test the power of solid radio communication and a couple of determined officers. Stop Sticks were deployed by another officer nearby, successfully deflating one of her tires, but she was not quite ready to call it quits. It ultimately took a PIT maneuver to bring the pursuit to a conclusion. Kayla was arrested for numerous charges including vehicular eluding, and officers located heroin and methamphetamine in her possession, adding drug charges to that list. Oh, and there were also five active warrants out for her arrest across four different jurisdictions. Busy schedule. 📋 It is the tools we have and the commitment of our officers that continue to impact crime and reduce victimization in our community. Nice work by everyone! 👏

🚨 Violent Offender Arrested – Automatic Firearm Seized 🚨 Aurora Police have arrested 18-year-old Mark Jackson following a nonfatal shooting last Friday at a gas station near Peoria St. Jackson, a repeat violent offender with a lengthy criminal history, was already out on bond for attempted murder charges related to an October 2024 carjacking. #APDNews In Friday’s shooting, Jackson allegedly opened fire on a group filming a music video — investigators believe the attack was random. Witnesses described the shots as sounding automatic. The victims were not seriously injured. On Tuesday night, officers located the suspect vehicle and attempted a traffic stop. Jackson fled, eventually abandoning the car and running from police. After a short foot pursuit, officers deployed a Taser and took him into custody. A 16-year-old female passenger was also arrested. Two firearms were recovered — including a Glock 19 converted into a fully automatic weapon using an illegal switch device, believed to be the gun used in the shooting. “Mark Jackson is a prime example of Colorado’s flawed criminal justice system, particularly with respect to the state’s juvenile offenders,” said Aurora police Chief Todd Chamberlain. “There is no accountability for criminal actions. There is no justice for victims. There is no meaningful rehabilitation. “There is evidence in this case that Jackson did not know the victims of Friday’s shooting and that he randomly targeted them. The public should be outraged that this violent, repeat offender has continued to navigate our criminal justice system without consequence and was allowed to continue to prowl our streets victimizing our community.” Jackson is being held on a $250,000 bond. Formal charges in Friday’s shooting investigation will be filed by the Colorado's 17th Judicial DA's Office-Brian Mason Judicial District Attorney’s Office. Several units assisted with the investigation and Tuesday’s arrests, including Aurora police’s Gun Violence Suppression Team, the Gang & Robbery Investigations Team, Patrol, the Gang Intervention Unit, K9 and officers assigned to the agency’s Real Time Information Center. The Denver Police Dept. Department’s Air 1 helicopter also responded to assist. You can read the entire press release, including prior incidents involving Jackson, here:

Sometimes the most dangerous situations start with something simple … like expired plates. ‼️ Yesterday just after 10 a.m., one of our traffic officers attempted to stop a driver of a pickup towing a trailer with years-old expired tags on southbound I-225 at East 17th Place. The driver had other ideas. And from there, you’ll see. Lives could have changed in an instant. Despite activating lights and siren, the driver not only refused to stop but also swerved toward our officer on his motorcycle. Thankfully, our officer was able to hit the brakes to avoid a collision, even after a large box flew off the back of the pickup.🚔 The suspect then blew through a red light, trying to evade our traffic officer who continued the pursuit undeterred despite nearly being run over. The suspect drove recklessly through the Fitzsimons Parkway area, at one point making another run at another responding officer while also weaving into oncoming traffic. When he crashed into a fence in the 1900 block of Akron Street, he tried to run. Spoiler alert: running rarely works. Thanks to a detailed description from the original motor officer and alert community members who saw him discarding clothing, officers quickly established a perimeter and located 39-year-old Kyle Secrist. Insolent even in his capture, the suspect had the audacity to ask approaching officers, “What did I do?” Secrist was detained without further incident and arrested for attempted homicide, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, vehicular eluding and motor vehicle theft…did we forget to mention the pickup he was driving AND the trailer were both stolen? The suspect’s criminal history spans 20+ pages and includes dangerous drug offenses, parole violations, assault, burglary, menacing, habitual traffic offender and DUI offenses, and child abuse. Expired plates are fixable. Trying to run over a police officer is not.➡️ Our officers never know when a routine stop will turn into something more. They show up anyway. Officer safety is not just a talking point. It is real. It is unpredictable. And it is a risk our officers accept every day to keep this community safe. Detectives Seek to Identify Armed, Masked Person in Southwest Aurora #APDAlert Late Friday night, June 14, at about 11:45 p.m., two incidents occurred within minutes of each other in a neighborhood near S. Peoria St. and S. Parker Rd. Detectives are actively investigating these incidents and need the community's help to identify this person. Please read the incident descriptions below, watch the surveillance footage, and then submit any tips through MetroDenverCrimeStoppers. In one of the instances, a person dressed in all black with a full-faced white mask started knocking on the front door. The homeowner opened the door and was met by this masked person. The homeowner quickly closed and locked the door before the suspect could get inside. Thankfully, the homeowner was not injured. The other incident, captured on surveillance footage, shows the same suspect driving in front of the house in a dark-colored SUV. They then walk from around the corner dressed in all black and wearing a white mask. The suspect used a handgun to bang on the front door, but the homeowner never answered. A few things to notice in the video include the unique footwear of the suspect, the dark vehicle that pulls up along the street, and possibly a necklace or lanyard in view around the suspect's neck. Again, if you have tips about the suspect's identity, please submit them to Crime Stoppers. It is crucial to maintain a high level of vigilance in our community. Do not open the door for strangers. If you notice any suspicious activity, report it to law enforcement immediately, providing a detailed description for responding officers. Ensure the exteriors of your houses are well-lit, consider installing motion lights, and invest in a video doorbell or similar device that could help deter criminals. Remember, being a good neighbor means if you see something, say something.

A gun and a felony amount of fentanyl now off the streets. 🚨 Last week on the 29th, at about 4:52 a.m., D1 officers, utilizing our flock camera systems, were alerted to a stolen vehicle near N. Peoria and E. 23rd Ave. Officers attempted to stop the truck, the driver had other plans... That's when the pursuit started.➡️ Stop sticks were deployed near E. 11th along Peoria which deflated two of the truck’s tires. That didn’t stop the truck either. Finally, a PIT maneuver was conducted and two people were taken into custody. A firearm was located in the vehicle along with a felony amount of fentanyl…a lethal combination. ◾The driver: 32-year-old Werner McKay was arrested on charges of eluding, motor-vehicle theft, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. ◾The passenger: 34-year-old Ashley Carrasco was arrested on charges of trespassing and possession of a weapon by a previous offender. This is why we pursue. Drivers who refuse to stop rarely have nothing to hide. This is also why technology like flock cameras are necessary tools for 21st century policing. Without them, a gun and dangerous drugs would still be circulating in our community. #CommunityCommitment #SaferAurora #APDInAction

🚨🔒 Stay vigilant against credit card skimming devices! 🔒🚨 They might look like your standard keypad at self-checkout, but some are actually skimming devices! On April 1, the two pictured individuals attached a credit card skimming device to a self-checkout register at Walmart located on Exposition. It wasn’t until July 1 that the device was discovered! It is still not known how many people could have had their information stolen, but detectives are actively working on this case. If you recognize either of these individuals, please contact MetroDenverCrimeStoppers. With the increase in self-checkout registers, investigators have noticed a rise in credit card skimming incidents, where criminals install hidden devices on card readers to steal your sensitive information. Here's how you can protect yourself: 🔎 Stay Observant: Before using any card reader, inspect it closely for any signs of tampering or loose components, even consider giving it a tug since they are usually only installed with tape. If something seems off, trust your instincts, and report it to staff or management. 🕵️ Shield Your PIN: While entering your PIN, shield the keypad with your hand or body to prevent anyone from capturing it with hidden cameras or who might be peeking over your shoulder. 💳 Choose High-Visibility Locations: Opt for gas pumps, ATMs, or checkout registers that are more frequented or can be seen by the attendant. Skimmers often target remote or less busy areas. 📱 Use Contactless Payment: Whenever possible, utilize contactless payment methods like Apple Pay or Google Pay. These methods provide an extra layer of security by not transmitting your actual credit card number. 🔒 Monitor Your Accounts: Regularly check your credit card and bank statements for any unauthorized transactions. Report suspicious activity immediately to your financial institution and the police. 💼 Report Suspected Skimming: If you come across a suspicious card reader or suspect skimming activity, notify the authorities and the business where it was found. Your help can prevent others from falling victim. 🔄 Share the Word: Spread awareness about credit card skimming among family and friends. #ScamAlert #RelationalPolicing #CommunityCommitment

Recently, your District 3 officers were on patrol when they observed a vehicle on the road with suspicious plates. Officers performed a traffic stop and determined the temporary tags were stolen, having been registered to another vehicle. The driver, a 17-year-old, also was driving without a license and did not have proof of insurance. Officers made the decision to detain the driver and impound the vehicle under the city of Aurora’s “three strike” rule, which requires officers to tow a vehicle if the driver can’t provide a valid driver’s license, proof of insurance and a valid registration. Officers are required to perform an inventory of the vehicle prior to it being impounded. During the inventory, officers discovered over a kilo of fentanyl pills hidden under the driver’s seat. At roughly 10 pills to the gram, that equates to approximately 10,000 pills. This case serves as an important example of why traffic enforcement is vital to APD’s mission of keeping the Aurora community safe. We applaud the dedication and commitment of the officers involved in this traffic stop and thank them for getting this poison off our streets. Their actions very likely saved thousands of lives. #APDInAction #CommunityCommitment
