Heck of a way to start a Tuesday. 🚨 While you were sleeping, patrol officers in two districts were dispatched to a home in the 2400 block of South Memphis Way for a report of an in-progress burglary. While en route, our officers learned that a suspect had previously kicked in the door to the occupied residence earlier in the night, and had now returned, trying to reenter the home, but couldn't... Maybe he started to panic when he heard our sirens approaching quickly. 🚔 What's worse is he was possibly armed with a shotgun. We got a vehicle description and attempted a traffic stop on the car, which was parked right outside the home. But that driver instead decided to flee. ➡️ After a short pursuit, our officers used a PIT maneuver to stop the car near the intersection of E. 6th Ave. and Nucla Way. Two people ran from the vehicle and one immediately surrendered at the vehicle. The driver, who was also the main suspect of the burglary, was caught after a foot chase that tested everyone’s cardio. The passenger who ran was also captured, but his route was considerably shorter. Yup, we got all three. 💪 The driver, identified as 33-year-old Anthony Mestas-Herrera, was wearing rifle plates and dropped both a shotgun and handgun when he ran from the car following the PIT. He was subsequently arrested for 2nd degree burglary, kidnapping, vehicular eluding and obstruction. He also has a lengthy criminal history to include 1st degree homicide, 2nd degree assault on a peace officer, drug distribution, multiple motor vehicle theft charges, and more. Quick thinking #DCSO deputies catch another auto theft suspect. On Monday night, patrol deputies responded to a report of an in-progress vehicle theft on Mill Vista Road in Highlands Ranch. Responding deputies quickly established a perimeter and began searching the area. The vehicle was located, occupied, in a parking garage on Mill Vista Road. Upon observing law enforcement in the area, the suspect vehicle attempted to back out of a parking space. The deputy activated the patrol vehicle's emergency lights and pulled forward to signal the suspect to stop. The suspect vehicle accelerated forward, scraping, and colliding with the front passenger side push bumper of the patrol vehicle. The vehicle ran a stop sign and sped away. Deputies pursued the vehicle for a short distance, and the suspect vehicle spun out of control and rolled backwards into a metal railing, where it was pinned in place by deputies. The suspect, later identified as Armon Chism (DOB: 05/15/1982), of Denver, fled from the vehicle, and a short foot pursuit was initiated by pursuing deputies. The suspect was placed into custody after a successful taser deployment. While conducting their investigation, deputies were able to establish probable cause that Chism was a suspect in an earlier vehicle pursuit of a stolen Hyundai Tucson at the intersection of Colorado Boulevard and County Line Road. Chism was found to be in possession of the stolen Hyundai ignition key and the vehicle was recovered nearby. Chism was booked into the Douglas County Jail for investigation of Motor Vehicle Theft, Vehicular Eluding, Obstructing a Peace Officer, Possession of a Controlled Substance (Fentanyl), Protection Order Violation, and Criminal Impersonation. Douglas County Sheriff Darren Weekly said, “We will not allow criminals to victimize Douglas County residents. We are committed to ensuring the safety and security of our community will continue to work tirelessly to protect our residents and their property. I am so proud of my deputies who responded quickly and didn’t give up until this suspect was in custody.”

What started as a FLOCK alert for a stolen vehicle quickly turned into a coordinated response by Officers on the ground. After locating the vehicle and confirming it was stolen, one of our officers attempted a traffic stop. The suspect chose to flee. Rather than initiate a pursuit, the officers deployed a GPS tracking device and monitored the vehicle from a safe distance. A short time later, the vehicle came to a stop in a nearby neighborhood. Officers moved in and located the suspect nearby. He attempted to run but was quickly taken into custody. During the arrest, Officers recovered a firearm from the suspect’s backpack, along with marijuana. The suspect showed signs of impairment, and a warrant for a blood draw was obtained. PROJECT CARBON VIDEO RELEASE: Mohamed NAOUAI (18) is seen here stealing a truck in Durham Region in January. He was later arrested in February by another service when he was in possession of another stolen vehicle. He was placed on conditions intended to prevent him from committing further vehicle thefts. This did not stop him from attempting to steal another vehicle. The second part of the video is from early March, when DRPS officers attended a stolen vehicle in progress call. After a brief foot pursuit with our K9 Unit, NAOUAI was arrested and held for bail. NAOUAI is currently wanted for a number of other offences, including: Conspiracy to Commit an Indictable Offence (global); Theft of Motor Vehicle x5 and Fail to Comply with Undertaking x7. This video has been edited for time, however it only took the NAOUAI a matter of minutes once he was inside the vehicle to steal it. This video clearly demonstrates the great lengths this offenders will go to in order to evade police. The get away vehicle struck a cruiser and narrowly avoided striking one of our officers. After he was arrested in Dallas on May 30 for allegedly driving without a valid license, possession of a controlled substance and unlawful possession of a firearm, a suspect in Texas decided to take the police wheel into his own hands. The incident happened after the suspect secretly removed his left hand from his handcuffs. When officers began driving to jail, the suspect attempted to open the squad car's rear door, prompting the officers to get out of the car, and eventually climbed into the driver’s seat and took off. One of the officers managed to jump into the backseat of the vehicle. That officer then attempted to stop the suspect by tasing him and striking him on the side of the head with his firearm. The suspect opened the driver’s side door and jumped out after driving what police said was a distance of about 1,000 feet. At that point, the police officer was able to regain control of the patrol car, and the suspect was given medical assistance before being taken back into custody, where he faces numerous charges.

Turns out hiding under a trampoline isn't much of a plan when we've got eyes in the sky… Just before 11 p.m. last Friday, our officers received a Flock Safety alert on a stolen Hyundai Tucson traveling through Aurora. With real-time updates from our Real Time Information Center (RTIC), officers safely tracked the vehicle before deploying a Grappler to bring it to a controlled stop near Montview Boulevard and Iola Street. That's when everyone decided to make a run for it. All in different directions. But we had the manpower for that. Two juvenile passengers were quickly taken into custody after short foot pursuits. The driver had a different idea. After hopping multiple fences, he crawled underneath a backyard trampoline hoping officers wouldn't find him. Unfortunately for him, our drone was still watching. Officers immediately established a perimeter while RTIC and our drone team guided officers on the ground. Working alongside our K9 Unit, the driver was located and taken into custody without incident. A search of the stolen vehicle also uncovered a firearm and spent shell casings. The 18-year-old driver was arrested on probable cause of motor vehicle theft, obstructing a peace officer, second degree criminal trespass and driving while revoked. Two juvenile passengers were also arrested on probable cause including motor vehicle trespassing and obstructing a peace officer. Both also had outstanding warrants. From Flock alerts and the RTIC to the Grappler, drones, K9s and good old-fashioned police work, this arrest is another example of how technology and teamwork help our officers safely take suspects into custody and keep Aurora safe. According to reports, the vehicle owner called his friend to inform him that his car had just been stolen along the Onitsha Expressway. As the friend rushed to the area in his own vehicle, he spotted a car that looked exactly like the stolen one and became suspicious. He reportedly tried to stop the driver, but the suspect sped off, prompting a chase. While pursuing the vehicle, he raised the alarm by shouting "thief." The chase came to an end after the suspect's vehicle reportedly ran out of fuel. The suspect then allegedly attempted to escape on a motorcycle, but commercial motorcyclists refused to carry him. The vehicle owner's friend eventually used his own car to block and apprehend the suspect before members of the Nkpor Central Vigilante arrived and took him into custody. According to those at the scene, several different car keys were allegedly recovered from the suspect during a search.

Sometimes the most dangerous situations start with something simple … like expired plates. ‼️ Yesterday just after 10 a.m., one of our traffic officers attempted to stop a driver of a pickup towing a trailer with years-old expired tags on southbound I-225 at East 17th Place. The driver had other ideas. And from there, you’ll see. Lives could have changed in an instant. Despite activating lights and siren, the driver not only refused to stop but also swerved toward our officer on his motorcycle. Thankfully, our officer was able to hit the brakes to avoid a collision, even after a large box flew off the back of the pickup.🚔 The suspect then blew through a red light, trying to evade our traffic officer who continued the pursuit undeterred despite nearly being run over. The suspect drove recklessly through the Fitzsimons Parkway area, at one point making another run at another responding officer while also weaving into oncoming traffic. When he crashed into a fence in the 1900 block of Akron Street, he tried to run. Spoiler alert: running rarely works. Thanks to a detailed description from the original motor officer and alert community members who saw him discarding clothing, officers quickly established a perimeter and located 39-year-old Kyle Secrist. Insolent even in his capture, the suspect had the audacity to ask approaching officers, “What did I do?” Secrist was detained without further incident and arrested for attempted homicide, driving with a revoked license, reckless driving, vehicular eluding and motor vehicle theft…did we forget to mention the pickup he was driving AND the trailer were both stolen? The suspect’s criminal history spans 20+ pages and includes dangerous drug offenses, parole violations, assault, burglary, menacing, habitual traffic offender and DUI offenses, and child abuse. Expired plates are fixable. Trying to run over a police officer is not.➡️ Our officers never know when a routine stop will turn into something more. They show up anyway. Officer safety is not just a talking point. It is real. It is unpredictable. And it is a risk our officers accept every day to keep this community safe. WATCH THIS! A police pursuit involving a stolen vehicle in southern Utah came to a quick end when a Washington County sheriff's deputy deployed a Grappler Police Bumper, wrapping a tether around the vehicle's rear tire. The pursuit began Wednesday after police were alerted to a vehicle reported stolen out of California entering Utah on I-15 from Arizona. Deputies say the driver repeatedly refused to stop and even tried to take off again after the Grappler was deployed, backing up in an attempt to break free. It didn't work. The system held the vehicle in place, and deputies and Hurricane police officers pulled the driver from the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, evading police, driving on a suspended license and having an open container in the vehicle. The pursuit began Wednesday after police were alerted to a vehicle reported stolen out of California entering Utah on I-15 from Arizona. Deputies say the driver repeatedly refused to stop and even tried to take off again after the Grappler was deployed, backing up in an attempt to break free. It didn't work. The system held the vehicle in place, and deputies and Hurricane police officers pulled the driver from the vehicle and took the suspect into custody. The suspect was booked on suspicion of possessing a stolen vehicle, evading police, driving on a suspended license and having an open container in the vehicle. Message to all those criminals who keep stealing cars and think they will get away with it in Douglas County: You won't. Your activities have not gone unnoticed. We will just keep identifying you, tracking you, and, of course, arresting you. Last night, #DCSO deputies did an awesome job spotting this stolen vehicle. The driver didn't stop when we tried to pull him over. He drove recklessly until we put an end to his eluding. He tried to run from us, but it didn't work out for him. He went to jail and faces charges of motor vehicle theft, eluding, drug possession, reckless driving, and obstructing a peace officer. On March 10, 2026, TAC officers conducted a traffic stop at Orange Blossom Trail and Gore Street. Officers developed probable cause to search the suspect and the vehicle. During a search of the suspect, officers found a loaded firearm in the waistband of Jabarco Botellapatino Coleman (DOB: 11/09/1976). Officers also recovered crack cocaine and weed from the vehicle. On July 19, officers conducted a traffic stop near Narcoossee Road and Dowden Road. During the investigation, officers developed probable cause to search the vehicle. The search resulted in the recovery of two handguns, cannabis, scales and plastic baggies. As a result of the investigation, Noah Nelquan Agosto was arrested and charged with possession of a firearm in commission of a felony and possession of tetrahydrocannabinols. Zavian Alexander Chaves was arrested and charged with possession of cannabis with intent to sell/deliver with a weapon, possession of tetrahydrocannabinols, and possession of a firearm in commission of a felony.
