Yep, this is how painstaking and tedious shading work in manga used to be...lots of pasting, cutting and shaping, scraping to get gradations. Pouring one out for all the manga artists & assistants who used to do this manually by hand 🥲🍷-

Classy response. 😎 Kinda bittersweet that this shot ( #VFX lighting CG fedora hat + web ) that I worked on for the show will thus be the definitive last shot of the series.

Great #vfx ref for rocket jet FX; that initial shock wave/impact blast right when it fires up is especially spectacular -

Throwback to some #SpiderMan : Homecoming shots that I worked on ( #VFX lighting ). It was my first ever Spider-Man film and I was really pumped. 😆 I've had the good fortune to work on 5 Spider-Man titles since, including #SpiderVerse & the upcoming Spider Noir series. 🕷️

One of the things I enjoy the most about the Huntrix's action scenes in #KPOPDEMONHUNTERS is the FX animation for the summoning of their Honmoon infused spirit weapons. If you're one of the FX/lighting/comp artists who worked on it, tell us how it's put together. 😃#vfx

I'm not sure what kind of serum #MiguelOHara injected himself with, but don't you just love the flurry of rich colors & graphic render styles as he goes through the action ? I'm only starting to appreciate these cool details on repeat viewings. 😌 #SpiderManAcrossTheSpiderVerse

Today is the 25th anniversary of Kon Satoshi’s ‘Millennium Actress’. The movie is so good I can still remember exactly which cinema I watched it a quarter of a century ago, and who I saw it with. 🥲

Compelled to repost this every time it shows up on my feed; some of the very best depiction of massive mecha weight & momentum in anime by the the great Mitsuo Iso.

I present to you, the best anime opening sequence ever made - Patlabor 2 : The Movie. The clip posted by OP below is the preamble before the opening sequence kicks in and sets the premise for the film.

This hypnotic, soundtrack only sequence from Patlabor 2 (1993) is Mamoru Oshii's own unique brand of mise-en-scene. The framing & composition are all richly cinematic as though shot through a live-action camera, with some really interesting use of reflections and silhouettes.

Re-watching Otomo's Memories (1995). The quality of #animation is exemplary all around, but special credit must be given to the run/walk gaits, which are complimented with splendid, little nuanced movements. Take for example Miguel's stumble in his run around the 0:08 mark -

One of the biggest visual delights of anime films are the stunning background art, and if you ask me, the stand-out piece in "recent" history has got to be Tekkon Kinkreet (2006). Legendary art director Kimura Shinji's work on this film is just ridiculously good & singular -

Don't tell my CG supe but every time this seq was shown in director reviews I paused work on my own shots just to admire the beauty of it all. The lookdev/animation/CFX/lighting, the works really. 🥲 Lighting/comp by CG supe Katherine Jones' amazing team. #KPOPDEMONHUNTERS #vfx

Transformers Dark Of The Moon is 12 years old, but this sequence is still gold standard #VFX. I was always envious because I never got to work on any of these shots when I was on the movie but in hindsight I'm not sure I could have pulled it off, those are some hardcore shots.

If there was ever any doubt the importance of reference in #animation, even legends do it - In this clip from the documentary "How Princess Mononoke Was Born (2001)", Hayao Miyazaki asks 2 animators to act out the movements of the shot with Ashitaka carrying an injured Koruko.

Ghost In The Shell is packed full of memorable scenes, but the one that really impressed was the lengthy locked camera shot of the Major's bedroom during the opening. Mamoru Oshii had absolute confidence in his mise-en-scène to hold the viewer's attention. Certainly held mine.

WETA FX, ever the #vfx powerhouse; my brain is telling me this seq from #KingdomOfThePlanetOfTheApes is all real life-action plate ( minus the apes ), but in fact it's gotta be full CG; makes sense to eliminate plate/CG comp work. Wes Ball /show artists, correct me if I'm wrong.

The movie HACKERS (1995) has a unique place in my heart for introducing me to the world of Electronica music. The opening sequence has Orbital's "Halcyon On And On" playing with that spectacular bird's eye view of NYC blending into a circuit board; Very, very cool.
