If there was ever any doubt the importance of reference in #animation, even legends do it - In this clip from the documentary "How Princess Mononoke Was Born (2001)", Hayao Miyazaki asks 2 animators to act out the movements of the shot with Ashitaka carrying an injured Koruko.

Princess Mononoke (1997) is one of my fav films of all time, & watching this documentary make me appreciate the work of animation artists 10x more. I wish I had time to translate parts of this doc to share with everyone, it's so inspiring 🥲😭-

A prof in animation school used to say "when in doubt, act it out" 👍

this is so cool! im working on a small animation by myself rn and i recorded reference of me acting out every shot haha its incredibly useful and pushes the animation to become so much more lifelike when you literally have the real life version to look at for reference!
