Imagine you're an autistic monk and you spend decades building a tiny chapel by yourself. The day you finally finish it, your fellow monks mock its appearance. Frustrated, you tear it down and build it all over again. Then a fat Bishop comes to visit and can't fit at the entrance. So you rebuild it once more. Then part of it collapses, and you keep rebuilding instead of giving up. And after all these frustrations, Brother Déodat turned them into one of the strangest and most beautiful churches in Europe.
