CEOs are done paying AI to leak their secrets. They’re livid: tokens that create zero value while their IP walks out the door to competitors. “Most CEOs I deal with compare this to some kind of venereal disease. They’re really, really upset.” Sovereign platform = you get the product without the permanent side effect.

He doesn’t miss: “This is not sovereignty. This is anti-sovereignty. And whoever’s telling you this works needs to be fired because they are hurting your country.” “My biggest criticism of regulation outside of America is: please get technical experts to do it.” “Those companies are exfiltrating, not intentionally, your alpha to the company that provides the model. It is literally the opposite of what you’re trying to do.” “This is literally the way to export every one of your secrets to some other company.” “It’s only because the people doing the regulation don’t actually understand the technical material.”

Pain is a moat “All medicine is kind of poison.” “Getting people to accept and embrace the thing that actually works……not on paper, for real……is the hard part.” “If you’re in an environment where you believe artistry is what creates a certain kind of beauty, and you see it work over and over, you get more comfortable with the psychological pain that comes with it. Over time you start to associate that pain with something that’s working.” “Wittgenstein: to believe you’re following a rule is not to follow a rule.” “Everyone will say these words. Now go do it.”

“I don’t think people are down for me being 20 times wealthier. It leaves a bad taste in people’s mouth.” “I come from an academic family. I’m not even sure how I ended up with all this money.” “That’s a real issue for our societies.” “There’s no getting around these issues. We have to figure out ways to bring people along and explain how they’ll participate.” “I actually believe this; but I’m not the right person to explain it.”

“Secularists in Silicon Valley are filling the God-shaped hole in their heart with AGI.” - Shyam Sankar “There’s not an empirical basis to believe that such a thing….The models get better. Why do you think that this cliff is gonna happen, or they somehow turn us into house cats?” “The people who have religion are the most skeptical of this. The people who are kind of transhumanists…..it becomes what they wish were true.” “The doomerism of Silicon Valley, it’s both a fundraising shtick where the frontier labs can say, ‘My technology’s so powerful, it’s going to lead to mass unemployment, so you better invest in me or you’re gonna be poor.’” “And also it’s divorced from any sort of reality. They are sitting in Silicon Valley building these models, spending no time on the front lines of how are people using this.” This was filmed 10 months ago……

Karp, 7 years ago, pre LLM: “The present and the future… ability to control the rule of law… will be determined by our ability to harness and master artificial intelligence.” “At Palantir the view that made them unpopular: legislators, representatives, and the courts should make these decisions, not a handful of people on an island.”

June 2023 “Are these things dangerous? Could they become potentially dangerous? Yes.” “What these debates ignore is either we will wield them or our adversaries will wield them.” “It is much better if we wield the technology than our adversaries who do not respect our norms, do not respect the rule of law, and do not respect the way we want to live in freedom.” 🙏Ed Ludlow

“I’m very proud of the people who hate Palantir. Put a list of them up there, please. You would be proud, most of you too, to be on our side when you look at the people who don’t like us.” “You have personal, private, very specific data that will and must belong to you. Things trained on that data have to belong to you, while simultaneously using public sources.” “Who owns that asset? Does you owning it mean the person down the street owns it?”

The biggest danger isn’t AI. It’s getting left behind. “You need access to compute. You need access to your own data.” “The stack is compute, data, ability to manage data, ability to control the models, ability to train the models, and ability to compete against your competitors and adversaries.” “You are gonna need a lot of electricity. How are you gonna get it?” “I don’t think the AI revolution is a hundred percent good. There are huge dangers. But being left behind is probably the biggest danger now.”

Karp 16 years ago…….Sometimes you have to focus on the core issues and iterate against them before you release a product……. “If you are iterating on a problem that you want to be important 3 years from now, it’s better to have engineers figuring out what the core issues are and then iterate against them.” “We’re long on dealing with the most important problems that we can find, dealing with them in a productized way so that they scale for the client… and because we’re long on that and short on what happens in near term, we are not planning to hire salespeople.” He has been consistent for a very long time
