Insta vs reality….😆🤣😆🤣 But to put some (much needed) perspective on all this…at least I ain’t paying to be here..lots are… And I’ve just sat next to a lovely couple from LIVERPOOL at dinner on their first cruise! They are LOVING it…they have no complaints…and that’s made me happy. 😃 bright side of lifers! I guess we only start to complain when we compare….and comparison is the thief of joy. Today…down under there are people having a much worse time than me. My thoughts go to them as I write this…because, one thing the military taught me was, when things are shit…there is always someone having a worse day. 😔🙏 strength and hugs to Sydney ❤️

Arrived on another cruise ship last night to deliver my talk this week. I know they look fun but i honestly dread these work gigs. I hate being away from home and my routine. What’s made this worse was I didn’t get ANY sleep last night as my room appears to be next to the thrusters. (Sound on for my videos)I had noise cancelling headfones in but even they couldn’t drown out the noise. Zero sleep, one complaint later…apparently I can’t change rooms…went for lunch….same shaking noise…oh well at least it’s sunny…or B… I’m not looking for a ‘poor me’ sympathy response…but genuinely I feel like I’m over sensitive to noise these days, especially when trying to sleep. Not sure if others who have come through PTSD feel the same??? But it really unhinges me and very quickly. I can’t seem to find a ‘safe’ space on this ship..a moment of calm for my brain. 😔😩

So I’ve made the decision NOT to March with the MERT club this year at the Cenotaph. A decision that has been the hardest to make especially after last year’s emotional moment. I feel like I have demons to lay to rest still. And I will. But I’m mentally (and physically) not great currently, and it feels like a point proving exercise in many ways this year and that’s not what Sunday is about. It’s about remembering. So I will be standing alone at home, but with you all in spirit at 11 on Sunday, remembering in my own way. Hopefully see many of you next year. And although everyone at some point in life will come across something that topples or traumatises them, I do believe that the blue light services and those in uniform are at higher risk. Their exposure to danger and trauma is higher than most and their ‘fight or flight’ response is nearly constantly switched on compared to the majority of the population. Well…26.2 miles done. ✔️ time of 4:17 which I’m happy with considering I was one of the last wave of runners to start.. crowd were INCREDIBLE…YOU HAVE ALL BEEN INCREDIBLE. I honestly didn’t want it to end. I smiled the whole way! And to top it off my best mate and her other half travelled all the way from Sheffield to surprise me and also got to see my fellow crewmate Bex who also came to support. Genuinely made the whole day better. 🩷 What an honour to run for Combat Stress who were there at mile 22 just when I needed them! What. A. DAY 🏃‍♀️💫💪👊😀

After a full 24 hours of solid constant noise yesterday I mentally collapsed. So many people dealing with PTSD/trauma/MH issues or even mentally diverse individuals have their own triggers or scenarios that put the in a very poor mental state. Understanding these for others is key. I felt like such a princess yesterday asking to move rooms….like a proper diva but the reality was I was falling apart at the seams. Maybe had I explained to the staff why I found the noise so saturating that would have helped….either way we live and learn. It’s easy to say, avoid those scenarios where you know u may get exposed to these things, but sometimes they catch us out…..thanks for all your support yesterday, it genuinely kept me afloat…pun intended! 🙏❤️

The day of my breakdown and overdose, my brain was not functioning properly…my fight or flight response had gone into overdrive and was highjacking my ‘reasoned thought’. I spent the afternoon on ‘suicide websites’ planning with meticulous detail what I needed to do in order to end it all..😔 THESE SITES NEED SHUT DOWN 🤬😡 Anything or anyone that actively targets those vulnerable people need dealt with. THIS 👇 is what healing looks like….2 years ago, I could barely recall this story without breaking down in tears and emotion. I’ve talked about it numerous times since then, with those who were there and on stage in front of an audience. Everytime I tell it, it gets a little easier. I process it a little more….and now I can tell this story without breaking down in tears. I haven’t forgotten the emotion of the event, I’m not a robot or have become immune…I have PROCESSED it and HEALED. The more you talk about your trauma, whatever that may be, the more you will heal…I promise….i did it. 🫶

Thank u all for getting me out of the hole. I live by the 2 day rule now. You get, no you ALLOW yourself 2 days to sit, be still, hibernate and process your thoughts when u hit the dark patches. But on day 3 time to move and leave that cloud behind. Tough run today but some runs you just NEED, not because ur following a program but you just NEED! (I have not followed a marathon training program at all…not a recommended way of preparation haha!😜) Combat Stress #mentalhealth

Yesterday the Chinook force came together to remember and celebrate one their truest legends. Maca was my mentor, the wisest man I knew and always had time to offer me guidance and counsel…with a huge dose of humour. 🫡 He was diagnosed with cancer earlier this year, and the world lost him a month ago 😔 His very talented son Tom wrote this song for his father and played it at the wake last night on their shared guitar. Sorry the sniffing towards the end, I was literally sobbing my heart out. 💔😢 especially when seeing his beautiful mum Alex’s reaction. 🫶 Could I ask all of you (I’ve checked with Tom) to share this far and wide.
