In October 2024,Bill Nye told MSNBC viewers that if Americans voted for Kamala Harris, we could stop destructive hurricanes like Helene and Milton from forming in the North Atlantic by stopping climate change. Funnily enough, Trump won the election and last year was the first time in a decade that no hurricanes made landfall in the U.S. despite La Niña conditions. This year, none have hit the mainland and in fact, there have been no hurricanes at all in the Atlantic up to this point, the first time since at least 1941, largely thanks to Saharan dust and El Niño-induced wind shear.

Here’s a clip from 26-years ago that Bill Nye does not want you to see. 👇 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝟏𝟗𝟗𝟖: “Carbon is everywhere! Carbon is in every living thing... carbon is even in the air! *exhales carbon dioxide* Carbon is what makes life go! Go! Go!… Carbon is the key to life! You’ve got, got, got to respect that!” 𝐁𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐍𝐲𝐞 𝐢𝐧 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟒: “We’ve created this wonderful quality of life for so many people by burning ancient carbon, ancient swamps; coal, oil, gas. We’ve just gotta stop doing that.”

At the Nobel Peace Prize lecture Al Gore gave on December 10, 2007, he warned us that the Arctic could be “ice free” by the end of summer 2014. That didn’t happen. Oops. And this year’s September Arctic sea ice extent (SIE) five-day minimum of 4.60 million km² on September 12th was ~440,000 km² higher than the September 2007 minimum. Although the Arctic has lost ice since the 1970s, there has been little change since Al Gore made his speech almost 19 years ago. The significance of this is that the climate models in CMIP5 predicted that a 20-year-long pause in Arctic sea ice decline had just a 5% chance of occurring under the current emissions pathway and virtually 0% under SSP5-8.5 / RCP8.5. I suspect sea ice will eventually continue its decline in the future, but this just goes to show that natural variability is important and perhaps underestimated.

This is nothing new. In February 1932, the Winter Olympics were held in Lake Placid, New York. ⛷️ Temperatures topped 50°F on several days in January that year there, and the lack of snowfall preceding the Olympics nearly resulted in its cancellation altogether. The Southeast and Mid-Atlantic states observed high temperatures in the 70s and 80s on multiple days in January and February that year. 🌡️ Some winters are cold and snowy. Some are cold and dry. Others are warm and wet, or warm and dry. It has little to do with long-term climate change. 📰 h/t Tony Heller 🇺🇸 🇯🇵

Governor Ron DeSantis shot down a news reporter today who tried to get him to blame Hurricane Milton on climate change. He didn’t evade it either — he directly answered the question and cited stats to debunk the claim. Oh, and those stats Governor DeSantis cited? They were directly from my analysis of NOAA HURDAT2 data this morning. Trump and Vance should take a page out of his book and sack reporters with data and leave them speechless.

Today, MSNBC brought Bill Nye on air for an analysis of Hurricane Milton and to offer his expertise on tropical cyclone dynamics. He told their viewers that if we vote for Kamala Harris, we can suddenly put a stop to category five hurricanes in hurricane season.

At the 69th Primetime Emmy Awards in 2017, Dolly Parton reunited with her “9 to 5” co-stars, Lily Tomlin and Jane Fonda, to present the award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Limited Series or Movie. Before presenting the award, Fonda and Tomlin went on an anti-Trump rant. Dolly, being classy like she always was, did not participate, just smiled, and deflected it with a joke after the other two were done rambling. Rest in peace, Dolly, we miss ya! 💔

Al Gore warns that the Arctic could be ice-free within the next 5-7 years. 🫠 🗨️ “𝑇ℎ𝑒𝑠𝑒 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑓𝑖𝑔𝑢𝑟𝑒𝑠 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑎𝑟𝑒 𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑠ℎ… 𝑆𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑚𝑜𝑑𝑒𝑙𝑠 𝑠𝑢𝑔𝑔𝑒𝑠𝑡... 𝑡ℎ𝑒𝑟𝑒 𝑖𝑠 𝑎 75% 𝑐ℎ𝑎𝑛𝑐𝑒 𝑡ℎ𝑎𝑡 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑟𝑒 𝑛𝑜𝑟𝑡ℎ 𝑝𝑜𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝑖𝑐𝑒 𝑐𝑎𝑝, 𝑑𝑢𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑠𝑜𝑚𝑒 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝑠𝑢𝑚𝑚𝑒𝑟 𝑚𝑜𝑛𝑡ℎ𝑠, 𝑐𝑜𝑢𝑙𝑑 𝑏𝑒 𝑐𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑙𝑒𝑡𝑒𝑙𝑦 𝑖𝑐𝑒-𝑓𝑟𝑒𝑒 𝑤𝑖𝑡ℎ𝑖𝑛 5-7 𝑦𝑒𝑎𝑟𝑠.” Just kidding. He said this 16 years ago.

Dean Cain on Newsmax yesterday: 🗨️ “It's scary if you about the fact that she [Wisconsin Secretary of State, Sarah Godlewski] doesn't realize that hail is naturally occurring event. And, actually, my pal Chris Martz, who is a young meteorologist, tore her up on X... If she can't distinguish between weather and climate change, I don't know how she's going to count the votes correctly there in Wisconsin.” cc: Dean Cain

The United Nations’ climate conference, COP30, in Brazil 🇧🇷 begins in less than two weeks. Tens of thousands of acres of protected Amazon rainforest were felled earlier this year to build a four-lane highway to alleviate anticipated traffic congestion. “Saving the planet.” 🌴🪓

lol This is a crock of crap. Climate “scientists” cannot get their climate models to produce accurate hindcasts of 20th century global mean surface temperature (GMST) observations without having precursory knowledge of 20th century observations to calibrate them to. That's curve fitting, not science. These models also run on circular reasoning. When global climate models (GCMs) are input with the supposedly “established physics” you mentioned, the energy fluxes in and out of the Earth’s atmosphere are not balanced, which causes the models to drift into unrealistic climate states (either too hot or too cold, but usually running too hot). Rather than doing real science to try figuring out why the best physics we have don't yield correct values, scientists simply assume that fluxes were balanced before the Industrial Revolution. They then adjust any uncertain parameters (e.g., clouds and aerosol) to force energy fluxes to balance. It is then assumed that there are no natural pathways that can cause energy imbalance, so modelers input CO₂ forcing, the climate system warms, and they say, “See!? CO₂ caused the warming.” While it may prove that there is at least some effects from CO₂, all else being equal, it in no way, shape or form proves that all of the observed warming is due to CO₂. They assumed it was at the outset, then forced their GCMs to produce that result. That's circular logic, not science. We also know model outputs are just statistical curve fitting because while the GMST response to a forcing has one value, the range of uncertainty in the aerosol contribution to GMST change since 1850 is 1°C. If you take the median of the CMIP6 models shown in Figure 3.8 from IPCC AR6 WG1, the uncertainty is a whopping 125%. If you don’t know that vital piece of information about aerosol forcing, you cannot have any confidence whatsoever in anything else. Arguing with me about this is not going to go well for you, I'm afraid. If you need an explainer that isn't so jargon-filled, Dr. Roy Spencer has a good one in the video below from a presentation he gave on March 3, 2021.
