Today marks a historic moment for Detroit. 💙 Mayor Mary Sheffield has officially been sworn in as the city’s first woman mayor, stepping into leadership with a vision that puts people, neighborhoods, and opportunity first. With a decade of experience in Detroit City Council, Mayor Sheffield enters this role deeply rooted in the needs of residents and committed to building an inclusive economy that works for everyone. A strong supporter of union and labor workers and a champion for accessible, reliable transportation. Mayor Sheffield made it a priority to stop in and personally thank the men and women whose hard work keeps Detroit moving every day. She understands that strong transit connects residents to jobs, education, and opportunity, and that honoring labor is essential to building a city that works for all. Her priorities are clear: strengthening Detroit’s economy, expanding workforce development, and investing directly in neighborhoods so every family can succeed. From supporting youth and creating pathways to opportunity, to ensuring families have access to the resources they need, her leadership is grounded in community, equity, and listening. People-centered. Community focused. Ready to lead Detroit higher. This is a new chapter for our city, and the work continues, together, in Detroit.

A new chapter is beginning in Southwest Detroit. ⚽️ The former Southwest Detroit Hospital site is being redeveloped into a 15,000-seat Detroit City FC stadium and mixed-use destination that will reconnect Corktown and Southwest Detroit. Following a community led Community Benefits process and City Council approval, the project will bring new housing, public spaces, and long term neighborhood investment. AlumniFi Field is expected to open in spring 2027, honoring the site’s history while helping shape Detroit’s future. Learn more about Detroit’s investment in neighborhoods and development at
