Detroit cannot say it is serious about poverty reduction while paying its own employees poverty wages. So we're changing that — starting with our own payroll. Mayor Mary Sheffield stood with city employees and union representatives to announce that every full-time City of Detroit employee will earn a minimum of $21.45/hour, which is $44,500 a year. A real livable wage. Nationally, few cities have set the bar this high. Salary increases start early July.

Read the The New York Times article and CLOCK THAT TEA‼️ ✍️ From the desk of Mayor Duggie Fresh “In the last nine years, the city has provided grants to help more than 170 small businesses open up, most in outer-lying areas — a sign of economic optimism that would have been unimaginable a decade ago.”

From boarded-up blocks to a skyline that speaks of Detroit's comeback, the Hudson's Detroit project at 1208 Woodward Avenue is rewriting our city's story. Rising on the historic J.L. Hudson site, this 14-story mid-rise and 45-story tower will soon stand as Detroit's second tallest-housing an EDITION five-star hotel, 97 luxury condos, and General Motors's new global headquarters. But it's more than just a building. Already, 7,500 construction jobs have injected income into our streets, and by 2025, it's set to bring 2,000 permanent jobs, boosting local businesses and city revenue. A decade of grit, vision, and relentless hustle brought us here. Detroit's future is rising, one story at a time.
