Trayce Jackson Davis returns to Bloomington Indiana this weekend! He joined ESPN’s Sam Acho and I to discuss the full circle moment. Tayven Jackson his younger brother will be under center for North Texas, taking the field at Memorial Stadium as QB1 against the Hoosiers. In the stands: his big brother TJD, an Indiana basketball legend in his own right. A Mr. Basketball winner. A McDonald’s All-American. A First-team All-American his senior season for the Hoosiers. Indiana’s all-time leader in rebounds and blocked shots. Now entering his 4th NBA season after being drafted by Golden State in 2023. Two brothers. Two paths through Bloomington. One emotional Saturday for the Jackson family. #IUBB #IUFB

It was great having Flory Bidunga in the lab this month! I’m thankful for Eli Foy - his performance coach at the University of Louisville for the trust and the opportunity to work with Flory. We followed the strategic plan Eli has had Flory for the last 8 weeks. A former McDonald’s All-American, 5 ⭐️ recruit, and Indiana Mr. Basketball, Flory continues to put in the work to become the best version of himself as he prepares for his first season with the Louisville Cardinals.

Different sports. Same anotomy. Different demands. Same human body. Messi has a hamstring muscle just like LeBron James and Travis Kelce. The sport doesn’t change anatomy or physiology - it changes the demands placed on the athlete. Watching elite soccer players train during the FIFA tournament reminds me of the work we do with college and professional football, baseball, and basketball athletes. The games are different - especially when it comes to the energy systems and cardiovascular demands - but many of the fundamental movement patterns are remarkably similar. Great training doesn’t need to be complicated. It needs to transfer. Push. Pull. Squat. Hinge. Throw. Jump. Sprint. Safe. Simple. Efficient. Effective. Regardless of sport, when we build the right qualities in training, they show up on game day.

Defensive Tackle Zaylin Wood was clocked by multiple teams in the low-to-mid 4.6s in the 40-yard dash at the Vanderbilt Football NFL Pro Day. His official 4.69 would have ranked 1st among all defensive tackles at the 2026 NFL Combine and puts him right there with All-Pro Aaron Donald’s 4.68. His 9’8” broad jump would have ranked 1st among all defensive tackles as well. His 4.4 pro agility would have ranked 1st. His 7.4 L-cone would have ranked 1st. All in all, he would have tested 1st in four categories among defensive tackles at the NFL Combine. He also put up 30 reps on the bench press, which would have ranked 2nd at this year’s Combine. I knew back in January during pre-testing that this young man was different. Explosive. Powerful. Fast-twitch. One of the most under-the-radar prospects in this year’s NFL Draft… but not for long. 📈 The film matches the numbers. 📈 The work is showing up. 📈 The league is starting to notice. Remember the name: Zaylin Wood. Larry Black Jr. Zaylin Wood God’s glory. #NFLDraft #NFLProDay #VanderbiltFootball #D1Training

“You’re greatest ability is your availability.” Miller Kopp never missed a game in 5 years of college basketball. He broke the All Time B1G basketball record for most games played (99). You cannot prevent all injuries, however, there are certain things that you can control to help reduce the likelihood of injury. I watched Miller “control the controllables” that helped him stay on the court throughout his time at Indiana University. Here is his cheat code ⬇️ 🏀Sleep 💤 (A schedule that allowed at least 8 hours of deep sleep nightly) 🏀Hydration 💧 (128oz of high quality spring water daily - adding salt pre and post practice.) 🏀Nutrition 🥩 (A “primal “ diet consisting of lean meats, fruits, and vegetables. 1 gram of protein per pound of body weight. He ate like a caveman.) 🏀Strength Training 💪 (Lifted total body 2x to 3x per week in season.) 🏀Conditioning 👟 (Peak physical conditioning - tracking his workload, heart rate data, and speeds during workouts each day) 🏀Flexibility / Mobility 🧘♂️ (A night time stretch routine before bed in addition to his pre & post practice warmup and cool down) 🏀Recovery Modalities 🧊 (Ice tubs, hot tubs, compression, massage, etc) 🏀Quality supplements 🥛 (Used for sleep, muscle recovery, performance) 🏀Daily Routine ☀️(morning, pre-practice, post-practice, nighttime, daily walks, meditation, prayer, etc) 🙏 🏀Limit alcohol. 🍺 Drinking alcohol can dehydrate your muscles putting you at risk of soft tissue injuries during the season. Passion, self control, discipline, and dedication is what it takes. Miller had it! Any young hoopers looking to stay on the court and play at a high level can learn from the lifestyle that Miller Kopp chose throughout his college career. The rule of 22…. Your coach has 2 hours a day to train you. What you do the other 22 hours is up to you. How you eat, sleep, and live will dictate how effective those 2 hours of training really are.

4 reasons I use chain resisted sprints to train the 40 yard dash? 1️⃣ Teaches horizontal force production Forces athletes to push the turf instead of spinning their wheels. 2️⃣ Reinforces proper shin & body angles Chains punish early pop-up and reward correct drive-phase positions. 3️⃣ Self-regulating resistance Light early, heavier as velocity increases-matches true acceleration demands. 4️⃣ Improves first-step & 0–10 efficiency Targets the most important part of the 40: the start and projection phase.

A “Purpose Driven Coach” is one who leads with an eternal perspective - impacting lives far beyond the game. “I wish at my player’s age, I would’ve gone much deeper into a relationship with Jesus Christ… To me, the most important thing is to love God with all my heart, soul, & mind.” ~Rick Barnes Salute to the head basketball coach of the Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball - a man who exemplifies faith, leadership, and purpose on and off the court.
