Yesterday , we laid the foundation for a sustainable solution restoring confidence and strengthening our partnership with Eskom. I appreciate the role of Minister Kgosientsho Ramokgopa in facilitating this agreement and uniting all parties. As an ANC-led coalition, we commit to honouring obligations, stabilising City finances, and ensuring Eskom is paid while protecting electricity supply for Johannesburg residents. ✊

We have engaged them time and again. We have been patient, but our patience has been tested. The City of Johannesburg is no longer negotiating. We are enforcing the law, and those who continue to defy our by-laws and court orders will face the consequences.✊WE ARE NOT FOLDING

Residents living in the inner city have spoken. The demolition of illegal structures on Small Street is long overdue. The law must be upheld, and anyone who defies it will face the full extent of the law. The honeymoon phase is over. WE ARE NOR FOLDING

The Johannesburg High Court was clear in its judgment: all illegal structures inside Marble Towers were to be shut down and removed, and the building brought into full compliance with safety regulations. The Court further ordered that all non-compliant structures must not be occupied or accessed by any person. Our return to Marble Towers has revealed a disturbing disregard for this court order. We found some of the very structures the Court declared unlawful still operating and being accessed. This is a serious violation of the Court’s judgment and places lives at risk. Property owners cannot continue to ignore the law while endangering residents, workers and members of the public. The City of Johannesburg will act decisively to enforce compliance with the Court order. No one is above the law, and we will continue reclaiming our inner city, one building at a time. #ReimaginingJoburg #InnerCityRejuvenation #RuleOfLaw

Haike! The owners of Marble Towers have approached the High Court on an urgent basis, and an interim order was granted on 15 July. The order interdicts the City from demolishing or interfering with structures on the property, and from preventing access to it, pending a hearing set down for 10h00 on 16 July. The City will be in court and will respect the legal process, as we always do. Our broader work to restore a safe, dignified and lawful inner city for the people of Johannesburg continues. The video below shows one of the many shops that was operating despite a court order stating it should not, using illegal structures. #RebuildingJoburg #InnerCityReclamation

When we appeared before the court in the matter involving Marble Towers, certain agreements were reached. Unfortunately, parts of those agreements have not been honoured. That is why we are here today to enforce compliance with the law. We will continue this process, precinct by precinct, and we want to send a clear message to all property owners with illegal structures: we are coming. Any unlawful structure or illegal activity will be dealt with in accordance with the law. Our objective is simple: to restore law and order in the inner city and reclaim Johannesburg for its residents. This operation forms part of our broader programme to reclaim and revitalise the inner city.✊✊

Solutions for Johannesburg won't come from political theatrics. ZILLE isn't here to genuinely tackle Johannesburg’s challenges or include all voices in the process. Her record reveals a governance style that prioritised affluent suburbs, leaving many townships in Cape Town to endure persistent inequality.History pages are never empty.

The burst in Douglasdale was triggered by a steel pipe that had repeatedly failed over the past three years. Johannesburg Water responded swiftly to the incident on Sunday, 29 March, completing repairs that very evening. Following careful monitoring of the leak repair, they proceeded with backfilling last night. The team is now on site, working diligently to clean up and restore normalcy while ensuring everyone’s safety. #JoburgUpdates

During today's demolition operation at Marble Towers, officers from the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD) detained a shop owner who declined to adhere to lawful directives. The individual resisted arrest but was safely apprehended and placed into custody by the officers. JMPD continues to uphold its commitment to lawful enforcement activities and the effective execution of court orders. Any individual who obstructs or resists lawful enforcement actions will be subject to legal consequences. We remain resolute.

Yesterday, we removed illegal structures attached to a church building in Small Street during our by-law enforcement operation. Today, we returned to investigate what was happening inside the building and discovered that shops were operating from the church basement. This demonstrates the level of lawlessness and illegal occupation taking place in parts of our inner city. We will continue to act decisively to enforce by-laws, restore order, and reclaim Johannesburg precinct by precinct. No space in our city can be allowed to operate outside the law.
