A tiny 2% tax on wealth above £10m, is a drop in the ocean for just 20k Brits - but would raise £24Bn with which we could do so much. Rachel Reeves needs to be brave, understand the people want this - even millionaires want this and there’s nothing to fear. If we think there is let’s change our tax rules and make them like the USA - citizens pay tax back home wherever in the world they choose to live. Problem solved.

Cars are an essential, planes are for holidays. Of course it’s not that black and white - but I’ll tell you what is, zero fuel duty on flying and big fuel duty on driving. That’s wrong. Our tax system needs to be more fair, logical and progressive. The budget is an opportunity to make a start. Put taxes where they belong - on the luxuries and take them off the things we need just to live.

In last weeks budget Rachel Reeves axed the Eco scheme and knocked £1bn of the nation’s energy bills - with the other hand, in the same month - the cost of building a new nuke at Sizewell was added to our energy bills - it was also £1bn for the first year, £1.4bn for the second and we’ll endure at least ten years of this before it makes any of it’s very expensive electricity. How expensive? - well the nuke at Hinkley (which is 17 years late) is due to start generating in 4 years time - when it does we’ll see another £1bn a year added to our energy bills. Taking green and social taxes from our energy bills is a great idea - but adding nuclear ones undoes all the benefit - and more.

Turns out, the Subsidy Control Act 2022, a piece of Brexit legislation, was passed when you were Brexit minister and it clearly states tax breaks are subsidies... Time to brush up on your own laws Jacob Rees-Mogg - will you now admit that in fact it was you who was wrong?

Our bills will be lower, so will inflation and bank lending rates, our economy bigger and stronger. He was all turbocharged nonsense, which is usually a bit of fun, no exception here really, once I remembered there was no use trying to discuss facts..:) He asked me for a definition of climate denial, and when I gave it to him, he was speechless for about two seconds - an age in his world..:) And then denied I’d given him a definition…. You couldn’t make it up…. and there’s no need..:)

I did an interview I did with Nigel Farage a couple of years ago. It was illuminating. His position was based on a series of green energy myths - and when faced with the facts to counter each of them, he moved swiftly to the nest. Telling though were his comments at the end - if what I told him was true…..he could be on board. Maybe I need to meet him again.
