I can finally talk about Mass Effect Universe. Since Bioware closed I can now reveal that I was part of the Mass Effect Council, saw what BioWare was building, and provided feedback during development. • Set 600+ years after the Reaper War • You play as a customizable N7 agent • Instead of being a walking gun rack, you're a cross between John Wick and James Bond • Shepard's legacy preserved, regardless of your ending • A galaxy divided into three major factions • Humanity, Krogan, Batarians, and more allied together • Council races forming their own alliance • The Geth emerging as a third superpower • A galactic Cold War instead of another Reaper style invasion with a shadowy adversary • Geth-built megastructures • Connections between the Milky Way and Andromeda • Experimental technology implanted in you as a unique point of difference • Hacking and manipulating the environment • See through walls, identify systems, remotely trigger hazards and more • Handcrafted missions like ME1-3 • But with Hitman-style freedom in how you complete them • Brutal close-range executions • Squadmates who can clash with each other • Romance wasn't being sanitised • Liara returns - now an incredibly powerful Asari Matriarch From what I saw, BioWare was making Mass Effect for us, the fans, not for people who don't exist. It looked incredible. And now we may never get to play it. Find out more here: #SaveMassEffect

How powerful is Commander Shepard, really? Let's look at the evidence: - Became an N7 before Mass Effect even begins - Elysium: single handedly held off a pirate army during the Skyllian Blitz - Torfan: led the assault that wiped out the remaining slavers - dealing a phycological blow the Batarians never recover from - Akuze: sole survivor of a thresher maw attack that killed 50 marines - Became humanity's first Spectre - Defeated Saren and his Reaper enhanced form - Helped destroy Sovereign - Died... then came back with a cybernetically reconstructed body - Can reinforce their bones until they're "almost unbreakable" - Can augment their muscles and skin with synthetic fibres - Killed a thresher maw on foot - something not done in generations - Went punch for punch with the Shadow Broker, a massive Yahg - Can compete with Garrus in marksmanship - Crossed the Omega-4 Relay and can complete the Suicide Mission without losing a single squadmate - Destroyed the Collectors and their Human Reaper - Resist's contant Reaper indoctrination attempts - Can survive every wave protecting Object Rho until the artifact itself incapacitates them - Wakes up and immediately tears through Project Base completely alone - Broke the Armax Arena scoreboard with 9,999+ points alone - A TEAM of krogan battlemasters had tried and failed - Survived Fatal Error when the Arena's safety systems failed and it tries to kill them - Defeated their own clone - Helped kill a Reaper on Tuchanka - Stood in front of a Reaper Destroyer on Rannoch, avoided its attacks, and directed the fleet's fire onto it - Can end 300 years of war between the geth and quarians - Can unite krogan, turians, quarians, geth, humans, asari and salarians against a common enemy - Can convince Saren to kill himself - Can convince the Illusive Man to do the same - Resisted Leviathan's attempt to dominate them and convinced the Leviathans to join the war - Leviathan concludes Shepard's victories are "more than a product of chance" - Became such a threat that the Reapers knew Shepard personally "Harbinger speaks of you." And ultimately... - Did what countless civilizations across countless cycles couldn't. Shepard broke the Reaper Cycle. So, how powerful is Commander Shepard? Full breakdown: This took a hell of a lot of effort to make so I really do appreciate the love.

These are the 3 games you should keep an eye on if you're at all mourning the loss of Mass Effect 👇 ⚔️ STAR WARS: FATE OF THE OLD REPUBLIC - Directed by Casey Hudson director of the original Mass Effect trilogy AND KOTOR - Spiritual successor to KOTOR - Single player action RPG where you play as a Force user - Choices push your journey toward Light or Dark - Narrative, memorable characters, and player agency are core pillars - Being built by a team packed with former BioWare developers 🚀 EXODUS - From Archetype Entertainment, founded by BioWare veterans - James Ohlen + Mass Effect 1 & 2 lead writer Drew Karpyshyn - Third person scifi action RPG - Time Dilation means years or DECADES can pass while you're away, and you can return to see the consequences of your choices manifest - Your decisions can reshape humanity across generations - Squad commands, ability combos, tools, and real stealth - Companions, romances, conflict, and difficult choices - Paladin / Immortal morality system - Humans, Celestials + uplifted "Awakened" animals as companions, like Salt the Awakened Octopus in a mech suit - You have an awakened wolf adopted brother - Releases April 7, 2027 🪐 THE EXPANSE: OSIRIS REBORN - From Owlcat Games; the CRPG veterans behind Rogue Trader and Pathfinder - Create an Earther, Martian, or Belter; which all impact gameplay and the narrative - Third person cover combat with 2 active companions - Systems track your actions and how you act can change the ending - Deep builds, skill checks, and squad commands - Your weapons, gadgets, and gear all have their own unique upgrade (skill) trees - You and each crew member also have their own skill trees - Your entire crew can contribute during missions, and your active crew can exploit the environment - Earth, Mars and the Belt react to your actions - Explore Ceres, Mars, Luna, Ganymede and more - Takes place during the events of The Expanse - Coming 2027 I've played both EXODUS and The Expanse, and the Mass Effect influence is impossible to miss. They aren't exactly Mass Effect and they don't need to be. I want to #SaveMassEffect so be sure to sign the petition. 📷 But if you've been waiting for another cinematic sci-fi RPG filled with companions, choices, romances, power fantasies, and a crew you actually care about... Here is some hope ❤️ Full video going through exhaustive detail:

We may never see a trilogy of games like Mass Effect again. I don't love Mass Effect because of the combat. I love seeing Garrus calibrating, Tali spying on Engineering, Mordin humming while synthesizing, and Joker being sarcastic to the AI. Few games have ever made companions feel so much like people you genuinely knew, and even fewer have delivered the character growth, relationships and consequences that Mass Effect could build across three entire games. Choices made years earlier could come back to reward you, haunt you, or completely change the fate of someone you'd grown attached to. And that's the part I'm worried we may never quite get again. Because when developers talk about making games like Mass Effect today, one thing comes up repeatedly - planning an interconnected trilogy from the beginning is insanity. Maybe they're right. But that insanity is also part of what made Mass Effect special.

Reminder that Mass Effect 2 rewards you for actually paying attention to your companions and I desperately want more RPGs to trust the player like this. At one point, Mordin tells Shepard: "Hold the line! Personally prefer to get job done and go home." It's a throwaway line, only uttered if you dive a little deeper into his history. But it tells you something important about him. When you reach the Suicide Mission. Someone needs to Hold the Line. And Mordin is one of the WORST squadmates you can leave behind to do it. The game doesn't flash up: "MORDIN DOESN'T DO WELL HOLDING LINES - DON'T PICK HIM." It spent the entire game teaching you who these people are. and you were rewarded for paying attention.

Reminder that they were THIS CLOSE --> <-- To giving Shepard different SPRINT ANIMATIONS based on your Paragon and Renegade alignment! DIFFERENT. SPRINT. ANIMATIONS. Something 99% of players would never even notice. This is why we’re still talking about Mass Effect decades later.

People are worried Star Wars Zero Company will be as frustrating as Xcom... It's not and here's why: 1. You don't get random injuries by taking damage any more. 2. Injuries don't stop your operatives from going on missions. 3. You don't need to waste an action reloading or escaping any more. 4. You don't miss upclose any more. 5. If you miss, you destroy enemies cover, making them easier to hit on follow up. 6. Action points and turns can be taken in any order to maximise combos. 7. A shared resource called advantage lets you get off powerful abilities. 8. An operative needs to get 3 injuries to die permanently, and you can turn that mode off. 9. If you want a challenge, you can play Expert and Beska mode (ironman).

I’m feeling MUCH more confident about The Expanse: Osiris Reborn now. We finally have evidence that: - Lang Belta is properly in the game! - Original linguist Nick Farmer helped make sure it was accurate - Belters switch between English & Creole naturally - Your origin changes what you understand & how people treat you - Ceres actually feels like Ceres - Owlcat isn't shying away from nudity, sex workers, or darker themes - This is starting to feel like The Expanse, not just an RPG wearing its skin. Beltalowda! Im ta nating without imalowda! 👊 Full Breakdown here:

In Mass Effect 1, being neutral with Ashley Williams unlocks dialogue most players never see. You'd expect being indifferent pushes her away. Instead, she steps up and becomes more aggressively forward, quirky, and surprisingly funny - showing a side of her character that many Paragon and Renegade players completely miss. Take a look below. More surprising Neutral Shepard discoveries across the entire trilogy:

Exodus, one of my most anticipated sci-fi RPGs, won't have a traditional character creator. Instead, you'll choose between a predefined male or female protagonist, with customization limited to things like hairstyles, scars, eye color, tattoos, and makeup. I understand why. The characters appear to be heavily performance captured, and it seems Archetype wants to preserve the original actors' performances. But I can't pretend I'm not disappointed. For me, creating your own character is one of the defining pillars of role-playing. It's the difference between playing a character... and playing your character. Even though I often played Shepard as default. It is good the devs are being transparent with expectations. If the game delivers on the original vision - a massive RPG with choices that have meaningful consequences, we may have a winner here. They have yet to rescind the promise of major time dilation consequences. I'll still judge Exodus on the experience it delivers - but a proper character creator is a feature many will genuinely miss.

Forget everything else, Mass Effect Andromeda's biggest crime was giving this guy an audible buttery chocolate voice, the most detailed facial model in the game, badass N7 lore, but didn't make him the main character. Worst still, they killed him off in the first 14 god damn seconds.

The Stand-off with Wrex in Mass Effect 1 was peek gaming. The reason it hit so hard was that never before in a video game (or never like this) were you thrown into a contentious but understandable and organic situation - where a beloved companion must be put down by you (or your companion) or not, based off your choices. 1⃣One you have to make knowing his reasons are justified. It's about the fate of his entire species, not just some random squabble. 2⃣One that can go catastrophically wrong if you haven't helped him out prior or got high enough charm or intimidation. 3⃣One you have to make after the game gives you plenty of opportunity to develop a bond with the little guy. 4⃣One you have to make not understanding the full weight of your choice yet. The loss of Wrex really hurts in ME2, and ME3 and you are almost locked out of the best ending. Just look at the conversation. After Shepard gives Wrex a real reason to listen, he does. There is a pause, and the silence is palpable. I could almost feel the voice actor in the booth swirling with the weight of it all - even though he said nothing. I've never felt tension like this prior in gaming, and from that moment on I was a life long fan.

I don't love Mass Effect because of the combat. I love seeing Garrus calibrating, Tali spying on Engineering, Mordin humming while synthesizing, and Joker being sarcastic to the AI. Few games have ever made your companions feel like home. I am concerned that similar games will struggle to capture this feeling in the future.
