ROBOTAXI EDGE CASE While riding in a Tesla Robotaxi last Saturday morning, I experienced my first intervention due to an interesting edge case. I first heard sirens and initially thought it was just a police car or ambulance passing through, until I noticed a line of a few hundred cyclists following. One would think the city would close the roads on the cycling event’s route, but that wasn’t the case here. As the light changes to green, you'll notice the safety observer taps the "Stop In Lane" button on the main display which pauses the vehicle. While I have always felt confident with Robotaxi's behavior around VRUs, especially cyclists, I think the safety observer made the right call here to avoid impeding the cyclists who were definitely carrying a good pace (~20mph). Going forward, I would imagine this is not a very common situation however I'd be interested to know how Tesla trains FSD to handle a similar situation in the future. Perhaps taking the combination of emergency vehicles and cyclists into account could train the car in the future to pause, regardless of traffic light color, until the last cyclist passes. What do you think? Full Ride Video:

EASTER EGG DISCOVERED IN TESLA SOFTWARE V2025.32.3.1 To whoever Tesla heard this feedback and finally remediated the compatibility issue between "PIN to Drive" and "Start FSD (Supervised) from Park, THANK YOU! I always felt like I wasn't getting the full FSD experience due to my use of PIN to Drive, but not anymore. Thanks again! TESLA FSD V14.2.1.25 TAKES ON BLIZZARD CONDITIONS! On Thursday, I had the displeasure of driving through yet another winter storm—this time a full-blown blizzard! A good chunk of the drive involved navigating whiteout conditions caused by heavy snow and 40+ mph winds. I expected to intervene quite a bit, but I came away completely blown away by how well FSD v14.2.1.25 handled the whiteout conditions. You're not going to want to miss this one! 00:00 - Intro 02:01 - FSD Navigates Away From Emergency Vehicles 02:30 - Intermittent Blizzard Conditions Begin 07:10 - From Partial Cloudy Skies To Blizzard 09:41 - Entering The Winter Storm 10:30 - Approaching Zero Visibility Conditions 11:00 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Multiple Times (Pt1) 11:42 - Blizzard Conditions Return 11:56 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Multiple Times (Pt2) 12:42 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Multiple Times (Pt3) 13:00 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Again (Pt4) 13:14 - Leaving The Hoth Supercharger :) 15:03 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own (Pt5) 15:31 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Again (Pt6) 15:55 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own Multiple Times (Pt7) 16:41 - FSD Aborts & Recovers On Its Own For Last Time (Pt8) 18:58 - Issue - Temporary Swerving Behavior Due To Bug w/ Slightly Slippery Conditions 19:38 - Issue - Swerving Behavior Returns 20:23 - Disengagements - Multiple Interventions Due To Swerving Behavior 21:12 - Disengagements - More Interventions Due To Swerving Behavior 21:54 - Disengagements - Yet Another Intervention Due To Swerving Behavior 22:06 - Summary - FSD v14.2 Bug: Excessive Hesitation w/ Auto Lane Changes: - FSD v14.2 Bug: Swerving In Slippery Conditions: If you are interested in seeing how Tesla FSD performs in the Twin Cities, please like & follow/subscribe. AUTO LANE CHANGE ISSUES CONTINUE W/ FSD V14.2.1.25 Starting with FSD v14.2, there has been a significant regression in the system's confidence when performing automatic lane changes. If a vehicle is following in the adjacent lane at a safe distance and consistent speed, the ego car will often activate the turn signal and begin crossing the lane line before suddenly aborting the maneuver, pausing briefly, and then either proceeding with the lane change or abandoning it entirely. This behavior appeared in v14.2.1 and unfortunately persists in v14.2.1.25. While it is not a safety issue per se, it is definitely one that needs to be addressed, as it causes confusion and frustration for all surrounding drivers on the road when it occurs. FIRST IMPRESSIONS W/ FSD V14.1.4 After spending about 45 minutes with FSD v14.1.4 here are my initial impressions: The not so good - Swerving Behavior #1 (aka swerving for nonexistent objects in the road) is still present in 14.1.4 and occurred mid-corner while we were driving through the Lowry Tunnel - Swerving Behavior #2 (aka aggressively following lead vehicle path) is still present in 14.1.4 and occurred when a lead vehicle decided to suddenly turn off the road we were on. - Auto lane changes, especially on the highway are more hesitant. I had several incidents where the car initiated an auto lane change only to abort and then go back and forth as if it was confused, even though the lane was clear. The good - Speed profiles, especially the standard speed profile continues to be close to perfect, especially on city streets. My only gripe here is it needs slow down a few mph on the highway as it likes to go over 10mph over the limit. Staying under 9mph over the limit usually keeps the tickets at bay so hopefully that behavior can be modified in a future build. - Brake/throttle pumping behavior has not yet returned but I want to do more testing tomorrow to confirm it is actually fixed. - I can once again select the "Driveway" option when parking at home after it being missing for several days. Not only is this option still present in 14.1.4, I now can select the "Parking Lot" and "Charger" options when parking at home as well. - Autopark, as long as you select the right destination setting, seems to be performing better and is now selecting the right spots ~70% of the time now. - Start FSD from within my home garage works great regardless if I'm backing out or pulling forward. The car is smart enough to recognize the steepness of the driveway and when I pull it out it turns wide to avoid scraping the front fascia which I appreciate. I was hoping to see the swerving behavior fixed however if Tesla only managed to fix the brake/throttle pumping behavior in this build I would still consider it a success. More to come tomorrow!

Why am I not surprised Ashok Elluswamy included a clip of somebody wodding up their ride on our favorite stretch of I-35W near Minneapolis 😂. For those unfamiliar with the area, this section of I-35W is known for its tight curves and occasionally off-camber road surface, which, when combined with bad Minnesotan drivers, consistently creates "fun" for all (especially once the snow flies). FSD v14.2.1 + WINTER CONDITIONS UPDATE With yet another winter storm bearing down on the Upper Midwest, I wanted to remind everyone to stay vigilant when using FSD v14.2.1, especially in snowy conditions. While this build performs far better than any previous FSD version in winter weather (thank you Tesla AI for all the hard work!), there's a notable issue when transitioning from clear pavement to partially snow-covered surfaces—particularly during automatic lane changes at speeds >40mph. Once the lane change begins, the car starts swerving side-to-side, and the longer it continues, the more pronounced the hunting behavior becomes as it searches for drivable space. Earlier this week, I encountered this a few times during a mild snowstorm. With a lifetime of winter driving experience here in Minnesota, I decided to observe how far it would go. I was surprised that the system didn't disengage on its own, as it eventually put the car into a full slide toward the barrier, requiring my intervention. If you notice this behavior, I strongly recommend disengaging early and completing the lane change manually before re-engaging the system.

RUSH HOUR TORTURE TEST W/ FSD V14.1.3! Last night I had some time to kill after my workout and decided to put FSD v14.1.3 to the test once again in rush hour. Instead of going straight home from the gym, we went to Best Buy, as well as other parts of the metro where we previously experienced repeated issues with v13. Along the way, we recognized several improvements, including proper identification and avoidance of an approaching of police vehicle which was super exciting! On top of these improvements, we also experienced several issues including: - Several episodes of brake/throttle pumping at intersections - Swerving for phantom objects on the highway - Routing issues near downtown St Paul & I-35E that resulted in missing the exit 3 times! - Autopark picking the wrong parking spot twice Even with these issues, I remain confident that v14 has more potential than v13 ever did, and I'm excited for the comfort-related improvements planned for the upcoming v14.2 release (which is just around the corner). 00:00 - Intro To First Drive 00:22 - Inconsistency - FSD Start From Park Now Works From Garage? 01:34 - Comments About Today’s Weather Conditions 01:55 - Issue - Brake / Throttle Pumping Before Unprotected Left Turn 03:19 - Issue - More Brake / Throttle Pumping 04:16 - More Commentary About Braking Improvements w/ FSD v14 05:27 - FSD Confidently Reacts To Hesitating VRU 06:20 - Destination Parking Setting Change: Street Parking 07:57 - Possible Improvement - Better Line Selection On Wider City Street 08:45 - Round 2 w/ Busy Unprotected Left Turn Onto West 7th Street 10:06 - Issue - Autopark Parks In A “No Parking” Zone 11:51 - Confirmed Improvement - Start From Park Is Leaps & Bounds Better in FSD v14 w/ Model S 12:36 - Tricky Unprotected Left Turn Is No Match For FSD v14! 13:24 - Possible Improvement - FSD v14.1.3 Respects No Turn On Red Sign! 14:32 - Confirmed Improvement - FSD v14 Reacts Faster To Navigation Changes 15:13 - Confirmed Improvement - FSD v14 Shows Improved Handling Of MN-style On Ramps 16:55 - Issue - FSD Unnecessarily Hesitates w/ Auto Lane Change On Highway 18:32 - Issue - FSD Tries To Re-route But Fails To Make Exit 18:45 - Issue - FSD Tries To Re-route For 2nd Time And Misses The Exit Again 20:35 - Smooth Braking From Highway Speed 21:27 - FSD v14.1.3 Aces First U-Turn 22:09 - FSD v14.1.3 Handles Direct Sunlight Like A Champ! 22:40 - FSD Tackles More Direct Sunlight Without Flinching! 23:26 - Confirmed Improvement - FSD Now Properly Detects & Moves Out Of The Way Of Emergency Vehicles! 24:53 - Issue - FSD Swerves For Phantom Object 25:29 - Tight Cloverleaf Onto MN-36 From I-35E North Presents No Issues For FSD v14.1.3 26:16 - FSD Once Again Tackles Intense Direct Sunlight 28:48 - Confirmed Improvement - Better Line & Speed Selection On Curvy Off Ramp 31:06 - Issue - Autopark Parks In Handicapped Parking Spot 31:26 - Commentary On Good & Bad w/ FSD v14.1.3 34:37 - Intro to Third Drive 35:19 - Commentary About Reverse Usage When Start FSD From Park Is Activated 36:10 - FSD v14.1.3 Properly Detects & Slows For Speed Bump 37:27 - FSD Handles U-Turn At Busy Intersection Near Rosedale Mall 38:19 - Driver Nag Updates w/ FSD v14.1.3 38:57 - Confirmed Improvement - Better Handling Of MN-Style On Ramps Especially When We Are The Lead Vehicle 40:43 - Possible Improvement - FSD Properly Handles I-35E South Fork! 44:34 - FSD Tackles Yet Another Tricky Unprotected Left Turn Even With Poor Visibility 47:27 - Confirmed Improvement - FSD v14 No Longer Uses Oncoming Lane Before Unprotected Left Turn 48:41 - Comment About Chill Speed Profile On City Streets 52:05 - Issue - “Driveway” Destination Park Option Not Available 53:00 - FSD Recognizes Alley Is Blocked & Re-Routes Automatically! 54:06 - Autopark Fail & Closing Thoughts If you are interested in seeing how Tesla FSD performs in the Twin Cities, please like & follow/subscribe.
